yes there's a big mismatch between things we're learning and things we're required to apply because for me what really matters is that there are set of things that are really required to apply what you've learnt in college and what you're using in your work.It depends on the individual that what should be used in work and what shouldn't.

Except the app I use to directly record from my phone randomly stopped working so all of my videos lately have terrible quality 🙁

I luv ur vids. U shld consider IT governance down the road. Coz u can communicate rlly well & I can tell u know how to get things done fast & efficiently

What exactly is IT governance? But thank you for the compliment, I think I am improving little by little

Stats majors should go into quant finance.

I don’t think anybody SHOULD do anything, they can try to get into whatever they want.

@@ChristianGardner I just wish these jobs let us do modeling and analysis.
@ChristianGardner Жыл бұрын
@@prod.kashkari3075 there are plenty of options for doing modeling and analysis… you just need the experience to back up why you deserve to be able to do them (which I don’t yet deserve)
@prod.kashkari3075 Жыл бұрын
@@ChristianGardner but see, why isn’t our degree alone and relevant experience (like your RA job) enough signal to say “hey, he’s a stats major, he can do data analysis”. Why is it something we earn. I mean, we have the background for it! We got stats degrees, we studied math! Isn’t that the degree for doing data analysis?

@@prod.kashkari3075no, unfortunately not how it goes most of the time

Which programming language is most important R, python or SQL? Which one should I start learning first?
@t.warren1363 Жыл бұрын
If you’re looking to become a Data Analyst or a related job, definitely learn SQL. It’s a hard requirement for most analytics jobs because it is the language that will typically give you access to the data. Are you still in school? If you are, you will pick up either R or Python along the way (usually). Also some statistical software package (like SAS or Stata). It doesn’t matter which one you learn first (R or Python), both are good and learning one well makes learning the other easier.
@ChristianGardner Жыл бұрын
Depend on goals. Data analysis or statistician work? R or SQL. General programming? Python (all my opinion)
@ChristianGardner Жыл бұрын
SQL almost always is good to learn, fairly straight forward as well

Do you think a data science undergrad degree is more or less useful than a statistics undergrad?

Less

Hello, I'm currently a freshman statistics major with an intended minor in computer science. Not going to list the name of the school I go to but it's a top 50 school (nationally), probably the 3rd best school in NYC (where I'm from). I also have a data analysis internship this summer but it's not the typical programming type of role you'd think of, it's more of data analysis using excel. Not the best but not the worst type of internship for a freshman like me I guess. Do you think that a data science internship is attainable for undergad stats majors and would I be in a good position to land such a role if I get future programming internships, grind extracurriculars, and maintain a 3.7+ gpa?
@ChristianGardner Жыл бұрын
You are better off than me when I was a freshman (I wasn’t even in my end major) and I didn’t have an internship until summer before senior year. Data science internship is definitely achievable. Be sure to include the IMPACT of what you’ve learned in school and internship on your resume
