Imo Math degree is either an A or S rank. The outcome for these majors in the beginning are stacked higher than some of the math majors that I've seen such as Actuarial math. I know a lot of people with actuarial degree who can't find a single internship with that degree so they end up going other route like any other math majors. The amount of time and money they wasted on materials and exams was not worth it if you can't even land an internship after 2 exams. Also stats should be S rank without a shadow of a doubt. That major is red fucking hot in the market. It is partly the reason why Math and stats coexist together in S rank. I will never believe someone has a math degree if they hadn't had intermediate understanding of statistics when they graduate. Ask any Math major graduates and they'll tell you the fun starts when statistics are involved.

It is true that those who get a bachelor's degree in statistics are not likely to become statisticians, BUT DON'T LET THAT FOOL YOU! When you hear "statistics", think "probability" and "predicting the future". Who doesn't want to do that?? Predicting the future shows up in EEEVVERRRYYTHHIIING. Miners want to ensure adequate redundancy built into their safety precautions, for example. The same holds true in NASA. Businesses want to predict what their investments will do. Manufacturers want to ensure that they are sampling sufficient numbers of products coming off the belt to test for defects. Pharmaceutical companies use combinatorics to determine all the possible chemical combinations. Statistics just shows up in everything. That's why it's so valuable and applicable. This holds especially true in business applications.

Thanks for sharing your insight Mark. I respect that
@marksmith48924 жыл бұрын
@@ShaneHummus by the way, when you said the actuary exams are difficult, that is an understatement. There are many actuarial science majors who are spoon fed actuary exam materials who then go on to non-actuarial careers because they can't pass the actuary exams. The pass rate is around 40-45%, which is lower than the Barr Exam, and there are several actuary exams to pass. However, if you can pass them then the payoff is job security for life because of the barrier(s) to entry.

Economics- the study of using limited resources for unlimited wants. Is very realistic and the closest to what is happening in the real world. You learn the pros and cons of unions, scarcity, when should a company keep selling a product or stop selling say product. The demand vs supply. Is a fascinating subject that I recommend anyone to take. Tax Accounting is 90% reading, 10% math and that is due to very law heavy and knowing if is tax deferred or not. I do not see any AI replacing tax accountants. For everything from one year to the next. For example in 2019 it was 0.54 for mileage regarding if you were using your vehicle as a business or you were a lyft driver. 2020 it went up to0.60 for mileage and now lyft drivers could also include the mileage for driving the vehicle without passengers with the app on.

To those looking for a good first programming language to learn, I recommend python. I’m finishing up my math degree right now and my college makes us take an intro python course in our freshman year. It’s very useful and is easier to learn from my experience than Java or C (for a first language), so if you’re looking to teach yourself programming, python is a good place to begin (again, this is purely my opinion based on my own experience and my colleagues’ experiences in engineering and MIS)

statistics and data science are really synonymous. Data science or Analytics are just new age buzz words for applying statistics to specific industry problems (which is not a new concept). Unfortunately there are several jobs that now require Graduate degrees when a bachelors was previously the norm, such as “Doctor” of physical therapy, what a joke.

My guess is that the real issue is if an undergraduate degree requires you to get a graduate degree to find a job, thus lowering flexibility. If you get a CS or Physics degree, for example, getting a higher degree can be helpful depending on what career path you want to pursue, but if after 4 years of school you want to stop, then you aren't trapped, as those degrees can still land you jobs just fine.

Data Science major leads to Business Analyst, Business Intelligence Analyst, Machine Learning Engineer, etc so for that reason I disagree with you. I was a Data Science major but switched to Statistics major and Data Science minor to graduate early. I am currently doing a CS internship and switching to Machine Learning soon. Data Science is tough but if you can get through it, it won't require a Master's in the next 5 years!

Data science pays more than computer science currently and it is easy af to get jobs like go on indeed or linked in coming out wiut just a bachelor’s degree you can make slightly more or the same as computer science and it’s legit like basically the same classes as computer science just like different classes but similar. Maybe 4 years ago that was the case but rn comp sci and data science are S and engineering is 1 tier lower. Engineering don’t make as much as computer science or data science by a fair amount but obviously this is only the average.

Hi, great video!! How about taking a major in spacephysics? I can become an engineer that way, but I'm a bit confused about what I'm able to work with. How is it different from aerospace engineering, for example?:-o

Data science is a combo of Computer science (S tier) and Statistics (A tier). Just keep in mind that people study Data science to become software engineers too.

@@lemontea000 thanks. For a start I am thinking of taking Economics as an option for my non-major classes. We have to take about 8-10 classes outside our major including a 2nd language and English. Since I have 2 years. of French and Spanish behind me I have signed up for German.

@@ShaneHummus make it soon. Thanks. My initial thoughts were to go into Applied Physics but now I fear the job prospects of that are limited. The options I have are to move to Engineering but I am not to keen on that. My goal is to get into some cutting edge research but also find a stream I can support myself and a family.
