Okay no one talks about this so I'ma do it. Remember me was co-written by a french writer and thinker Alain Damasio. He wrote one of the best fictionnal books of the century "La Horde du Contrevent" (it's written in very inctricate and elaborate french poetry and play on words so it will probably never get peroperly translated), and wanted tro try a new medium to vehiculate his story-telling. Alain Damasio tries a lot of different mediums because he is eager to learn new things, he actually co-founded the game studio dontnod. After the game was released (he was narrative lead on Remember me), he admitted in an interview that he didn't knew the medium well enough (because he didn't play a lot of games himself) and that he knows the game isn't as good as he wanted it to be. He said that he understood later that the gameplay must be aligned with the feelings you want to convey, as an example the memory re construction parts that you have to do in the game are actually brilliant and the game should have been focused a lot more on it. Alain Damasio was also a narrative consultant for Life is Strange, but he quit soon enough and continued writing novels (which are great), but yeah I find it inspirationnal how he admits the great flaws in his game, the man is very humble. It is truly a shame that his books can't really get translated, due to the nature of his writing style. So yeah, this game is a sort of failed experiment, still as you can read in the comments, a lot of people actually loved it. This is probably due to the fact that when you say something is "unoriginal" or "mid", it still is a great experience for someone that is new to the genre. Good video, just wanted to add this bit of the story :) (it's normal not to know I think, Alain Damasio is virtually unknown outside of french litterature)

Actually Sony Interactive Entertainment were the ones that supported Adrift from newly built 2008 studio Dontnod Entertainment back when it was a unique project meant as a PlayStation 3 exclusive sadly due to creative differences around 2010 mainly changing to a memory plot while rebuilding the setting to a futuristic one SIE dropped the project, which in turn forced them to seek new publisher support around Gamescom 2011 Capcom showed interest by buying the IP in 2012 only to redesign it to a Devil May Cry formula Honestly would have preferred the uniqueness of the original project

Do I remember Remember Me?? I just played this for the first time last year! So it's VERY fresh in my mind. And despite what feels like popular opinion...I really kind of loved it. I'd been interested in playing it since it's initial release but opted to wait until it went on sale. Unfortunately, as time went on it became more sparse in game stores and it became overshadowed by whatever the latest RPG was at any given time until, as the title of your series suggests, it almost completely slipped out of my memory until I saw a used copy of it in a local buy/sell/trade store called Game Over for the ripe price of $5. If nothing else, it gave me a reason to dust off my XBox 360. Best $5 I've ever spent in my opinion. I wish I'd played it sooner. And I really wish that a sequel could have been made when it was still a fresh property. But who knows what the future holds? Maybe it'll get one some day. If Mirror's Edge can get a second game almost a decade after its release, maybe there's hope for Remember Me.

Remember Me was one of the funnest games I played years ago on my 360. I may be more biased to it cause of just how fun I found it, but I think it's an amazing game and they have Very simple problems that can be fixed if given the chance at the sequal Make Combat Better Add more world exploration and BOOM keep the same formula and you got the perfect game especially in this day and age where graphical technology is incredibly good

It's a question of expectations. Remember Me isn't a "Triple A" game, it was one of those elusive "Single A" or even "B" grade games that we used to get all the time in the PS2 era. You know, a game that's got some good ideas, is fun to play for 10 hours or so, tells an OK story and looks pretty good for it's time. The only thing Remember Me did wrong was come out in an age where that "mid-tier" of games was shrinking, so it got marketed as a AAA instead: expectations set too high, and thus, a big critical and audience rating of "Meh, not bad." It's totally worth... Really, it's still $30 on Steam? Whatever, it'll be $6 next sale, and it's absolutely worth it at that price.

I remember enjoying this game as a nice little sci-fi distraction game when it first came out, looking absolutely gorgeous and fairly easy as a beat em up. I was actually curious to see where Dontnod would go from there. Imagine my surprise when Life of Strange released. While I don't think it's a bad adventure game (the voice acting is done with a lot of passion and obvious enthusiasm, story is pretty neat), the writing felt dated and too tryhard, specifically the prose. They kinda improved on that in the sequel, but it's still off. It's funny, Dontnod's games so far have been enjoyable, but always leave me wondering what could've been. I've yet to be completely blown away, and I think they have the potential to do so. They just need focus in the right areas.
@GodOfOrphans5 жыл бұрын
I played a little bit of Life is Strange and I enjoy it well enough so far but yeah I'm beyond pissed that it was that game that put Dontnod on the map instead of their far superior work on Remember Me. I am not sure if it's Capcom or Dontnod that has the rights to the IP but I would love to see some Remember Me skins in Resident Evil or maybe a guest fighter in Street Fighter or something, hell one of the unlocks in the model viewer is Nillin and Kid Xmas playing Street Fighter 2 together.

Honestly I did enjoy this game and its one of the few games out there that let you customize your own combos which is something I wish a lot of brawler and hack-n-slash games would let us do. Its got the gameplay element down pat and it looked beautiful for its time. If the creators added more memory puzzles like at least 8-10 in the game, focused more on combat and tried to tell a less pretentious story, I'd be sold in a heartbeat.

I played Remember Me a few years back, and I have to say that I had fun with it, the world and art style looked great, I liked the combat, and I felt the boss fights against the wrestler and the prison warden were some pretty hype moments that were easily my favorites experiences in the game. But god did I end up hating the main character at the end. It often felt like she was written by two different people, because those dramatic, between-chapters scenes in the void where she monologues to herself in the void seems like a different person you get in-game who spouted shitty one-liners. Then there were the memory remix scenes, which just painted her to be a terrible person because, as you said, she traumatizes people for her own gain. The bounty hunter who is after her so she can use the bounty to pay for her husband's medical bills? Make her think he's actually dead so she'll join your side. The architect you need information from? Make him think he shot and killed his girlfriend, and be surprised when he takes his own . The evil business woman who runs the evil business who clearly loves being evil? Change the context of a life-altering accident so now that she's suddenly all remorseful for all the evil things. The dad who seems like everything he did was just so he could cling to the happier memories of when his daughter was a child? Make him think he killed her. (I straight up yelled at the tv 'FUCK YOU' at this part'.) Man, fuck Nilin. After watching this, I find myself that disappointed that Dontnod, instead of sticking to the strengths they show with Remember Me with its gameplay and art design, decided to double-down on writing, which they were clearly weaker in. For what it lacks, Remember Me seemed like a good start to the games they could have made, and I wish they could have put more attention on games like that.

Late, but if there's one thing that I would like to tell dontnod it's that if they want a game with good story telling, then when designing a fiction story, avoid showering too much of the "real world" external struggles and conflicting opinions and focus on one (perhaps, but not recommended, two) *internal* struggle(s) and how it relates, affects, and affected by the main character. Listening in npc side story is good and all, IF the audience can be attached to it, or if the audience can expect some meritable value from it. However, when the audience has no other choice, but to listen to a story, that has absolutely no relevance to the progression of our characters story, it really just saps the fun out of the entirety of a game.

combat is satisfactory, story was mixed but mostly good if flawed in final execution and the environment was nice in conception if limited in execution. shame it got so forgotten about. a 6/10 bethesda game always gets remembered, but 7/10 on rails fighter doesnt remain the the cousnciousness. the environmental design was insane in remember me and honestly one of the best settings ever. and then they did two telltale style games without a setting to speak of instead of producing more short cinematic experiences like they obviously had the talent for

I remember playing Remember Me during the summer of 2013. It was a pretty good game. It was interesting and I liked the time manipulation element of the game. The art style was very unique as well. It was a very underrated game. It came out during a jam pack gaming year. Last of Us, GTA 5, Saints Row 5 and Beyond 2 Souls; and I played all them. But I will say had a lot of fun with this game and still have my copy of it. I haven't forgotten Remember ME.
