I have heard of the B.B. Box before but this video and your playing made it more clear to me where to go and how to do it. Excellent stuff. It is also easy to see and hear that Eric Clapton and John Mayer have spent considerable time learning these notes and licks. And you are correct, B.B. was the king of bending.....and leaving space between the notes. His playing was always very tasteful and timeless. I saw him live twice and feel blessed to have seen him before he became ill. He was the king!

I've watched this video a couple dozen times now and I'm really starting to feel like I can follow the chord changes and connect triads from other lessons to be able to play what I hear in my head. The real kicker was to stop thinking in minor pentatonic shapes which were super limiting and to start from the ground up with triads and harmonic rhythm (even though it was really tempting to fall back on muscle memory from playing shapes for years). Thank you so much for the lessons, I can't wait to keep learning and improving!

What's amazing about this video, other than Space 🖐, is that it shows you what not to do. Even though I'm miles away from being able to do what's being demonstrated, the simplification seems like a gestalt figure-ground flip. Same with the video on Triads. In neither video did I see what I expected to see. Yet I feel like the ideas alone have improved my playing by changing my focus. Thanks again. I never imagined that B.B. King was influenced by slide guitar.

Another fabulous video!! When you were deliberately playing poorly it reminded me of when I thought I was playing brilliantly! I follow 3 guitar teachers on KZbin for different purposes. I joined Guitar Wisdom and find the platform invaluable. Your lessons are simple yet robust with knowledge. I mastered Twinkle Twinkle Little Star using several inversions and progressions just by thinking about chords. As to BB king I think the key is nugget in your lesson is “space”. I’ve slowed down and created more space in between my phrasing and my soloing is more fun and enjoyable. One thing: I’d love a lesson / video comparing techniques between Albert King and BB King. Thanks!

Tomo, Thanks very much for taking the time to do this! Very concise and informative lesson really breaks down the mechanics of this style. I very much like your approach to encourage players to break out the static caused by thinking purely in scales (CAGED). With all thats going on I have the perfect opportunity to go through these lessons and improve my playing. Also appreciate the little life lessons at the end - very insightful!

When I first time listened B.B.King's guitar(Lucille) sounds, I was so amazed of something never felt before. That album was "Cook county jail".
