blues is hard to define but basically you find a lot of bending up to notes like start flat and go up (min 3 to maj 3 is one example) and a kind of blurring between maj and min and throwing the dom 7 in all the time. Some players seem to love the minor more like SRV and Albert King. BB did a bit of both. Hearing the difference is important because sometimes that 4 chord is a 9 or a dom 7 and if you continue to play that pure minor, it will clash against the 4 dom 7 chord. Only time you REALLY can do pure minor always is over the minor key where all 3 chords stay minor (like Am, Dm, Em etc). Nice lesson!

I absolutely love your teaching philosophy... You stress the importance of using your head, playing cleanly, spacing notes with air instead of just unloading buzz bombs. There reaches a point where the technical ability of any player stops being as important as the sound that comes out of their guitar. Your metaphors are spot on. I am a bass player who also loves to dabble on 6 strings blues guitar. I get a lot out of guitar and bass instructional videos, but I get so much more out of music lessons like yours. Thanks for doing these videos, they are greatly appreciated...

Fantastic. I just love the simplicity. It's a great way to get the blues logic into your head. I've been having trouble with trying to keep the timing when I do some lead runs. In the time since your BB Box video, I already feel improvement in my timing. Just 2 things: 1. If I play the "blues is king" lick a few times and then try to move to the minor pent- scale, it sounds a bit wrong. 2. In the last bar of your walking base line, you end on the 1. To me, it make more sense to end on the 5. What do you think?

I really enjoy your classes and it's easy to see why you have such a good reputation as a teacher. Every time you play you use a lot of very progressive ideas. It looked (and sounded) like you might be throwing in Mixolydian and maybe some Dorian runs into your Jump Blues. Are you ever going to do a course or series on progressive Blues? It seems like natural fit.
