The classic will always be my favorite! Stealthy at night is an understatement. Did you ever hear a Doberman running full bore to you at night and you can’t see him?!?! It is a frightening sound even for the owner!!! But I love it!!!!

I’ve had 3 Dobermans. 2 were the common color that you typically see the Black and Tan. While that is probably my color of choice, those dogs were from very reliable breeders. The Dobie I have now is a rescue because I decided about 10 years ago that there are so many unwanted dogs in shelters that need good homes. So my 3rd Dobie is a blue and she is a rescue dog. So I don’t know anything really about her breeding but she has the exact same characteristics that my Black and Tan Dobies had. Very protective of her family, extremely loyal, loving, always alert, and playful and exceptionally intelligent. Dobermans are the best protection/guard dogs in my opinion. She’s had a few skin issues so they do require a little more maintenance than a Black and Tan goes as far as her coat. When I first got her she did have a Staph infection on her skin which I treated with antibiotics. She’s also has a few dry patches at times and I have to stay on top of it by putting coconut oil in her food daily and Omega 3, 6, & 9 fish oil as well. I also usually clean her coat daily using 100% natural witchhazel and tea tree oil with lavender and rosemary that’s diluted in coconut oil. When I take her out for her daily runs people still know she’s a Doberman and she gets a lot of compliments for her beautiful color and coat. She was just around a year old when I adopted her and now she’s 2 1/2. Probably the best out of the 3 Dobies I’ve Owned, even though they’ve all been great exceptional dogs. I just love this breed. My next Dobie, will definitely be a rescue as well.

I love black and rust classic. I want one when I can get a dog. I also love the white doberman. I want both colors, even though I know white is harder to find. I’d do the work to find reputable breeders for both. I’m always dreaming of life with my dream dogs. I would love them to the moon and back. Of course, for a first dog, I might get a border collie, which is definitely another dog breed I love. At any rate, they’re all beautiful dogs which just need love and affection^^

AKC and European standards...My blue Doberman had skin breakouts because I bathed him once with head and shoulders. Use natural shampoo!!!

There is a reason, why many colours are not allowed in Europe: these colours go hand in hand with serious health issues. Breeding Dobermans with these health issues just because they „look nice“ is called torture-breeding. Don’t get me wrong, I love Dobermans, I like watching these videos, but I don’t agree with downplaying health issues.

I basically agree with everything you said! Some colors that aren't allowed in Europe are just more prone to some minor issues, but there are certainly others that can have serious problems.

Thank you!! I think this is a great video, but I do take issue in the downplaying of health issues. That´s why I really don´t like the wording "which colours to choose from" because to me it´s irresponsible to choose a dog based on colour, thinking that diseases closely linked to the colour are minor when in reality they can massively affect a dogs quality of life.

I owned a female red Dobie who was the sweetest dog and one of my favorites over the years. She had amazing expressions and when I was worried she actually stood in front of me and furrowed her brows. She is the only dog I've owned who cried actual tears (usually when I was crying). I've heard dogs take after their owners; definitely the case with my Dobie. ;) I took her to basic obedience training where the instructors, who bred/showed their dogs, were amazed at her build and "perfect ears" and encouraged me to continue training/showing her in obedience trials. I had adopted her from the kennel where I boarded my Samoyed Husky; the Dobie had been abandoned by her previous owner :( so I had no papers but applied for a certificate from the AKC and was able to show her in local "fun matches." She even won a blue ribbon. That was 30 years ago. If I lived in a house now instead of apartment or owned my own home, I would DEFINITELY get another Dobie. I miss her so very much.

I will never understand, why some prefer beauty over health. Well, maybe it is because the ones who decide are the ones who „benefit“ from the beauty (because they are the ones seeing it) and they are not the ones who suffer (because the dogs are).

It is a shame that they are breed like this. But since they exist, I would rather get a rare color because I know I will be able to take care of it correctly. I would rather a dog prone to health risks go to somebody who knows what they are doing, than somebody who buys one on impulse with no type of research whatsoever.

@@Pohlmaster I agree with your point but unfortunately there are a lot of scummy people out there who just want a "rare" dobie and will buy from anyone willing to sell. So in some ways, it certainly IS much better if a dobie lover and good dog owner buys one of these colors rather than some moron who just wants the dog because its "rare", and will ditch it once it gets sick. Obviously, giving money to those people shouldn't be encouraged, but its not always necessarily the buyers that are problematic (for example, some people are misinformed or uneducated and unaware of the health risks an albino or fawn dobie might carry) its the breeders who are scumbags.

I have a white Doberman I rescued from a Doberman rescue when she was 8 months old. When I got her spayed, she turned out to be a hermaphrodite. She has allergies and has to be on prescription food. I apply doggy safe sunblock whenever she's outside and she has vision issues. Her vision issues cause her to get scared and nervous around other dogs/humans since she can't see them well. It's a lot of work but she is the love of my life! She's in dog training now and she's gaining confidence! If you want a white Doberman, don't think it'll be easy or cheap. If you want to care for it correctly, it's going to take WORK!

We have always had rescued dobe's. These dogs are truly amazing. Our daughter is blind and autistic. Our older dobe, Missy helped our daughter learn to walk and learn to walk around the house. If our daughter was about to walk into something, Missy would block her or would gently push her away. We have another dobe named Mattie (who is a blue). She's a true momma. When all of our granddaughters were born, she never left their sides. Mattie has such an attachment to our middle granddaughter, that they can't stand not being next to each other. They can communicate without talking. Our Dobe's are our babies

Agree. I have had over 13 dobermans over my lifespan and they all present with those same lovable and playful and humorous traits. I've had blacks, reds, a blue and one fawn. All were extremely lovable and velcro-like in behavior. Once they see you as their human, they will love you to the end. Their loyalty is beyond belief. I love this breed.

Actually, dislikes are probably because this video talks about colours being "rare" and downplays the health conditions associated with breeding these colours. Also, he talks about a dog costing $800...that is the price of a puppy mill or backyard breeder dog - the most unethical breeding practices. Promoting information like this only promotes unethical breeding , which leads to the downfall of this wonderful breed. This guy should do more research.

Meaning simply because a color isn't recognized as a "standard" color doesn't mean the color doesn't exist. Many more colors exist beyond just the standards.

Wow! Had no idea there were 9 different colors of Dobermans!!! Thought there was only two. They are so beautiful! :) My favorite color is the standard, classic, black, & brown. Just seems to be what a doberman would look like normally. My brother had a red/rust female doberman named Gretchen, & boy was she naturally super protective of him, & she wasn't trained to be that way either. Nobody could get near his property unless he were right there. She was a great dog though, & she never attacked anybody, just natually super protective of him, & his property, & wouldn't let anyone on his property unless he were there with her. He liked that for where he lived, kind of the middle of no where.

I just had to let you know how much I appreciated your videos. I am a disabled veteran. Long story short part of my PTSD was due to the loss of my doberman back in 1984. I've been in the dog business as a dog groomer for 33 years and have avoided Dobermans all that time. It simply devastated me and it's taken me this long 8 months of therapy through the VA to be able to thank you for your videos. Part of my therapy I was instructed to start watching videos and looking at photos of Dobermans. It was my main trigger. I came across your videos they were a lot easier for me to watch because your very clear instructions and and you're laid back atmosphere when filming your videos. When I had a blue Doberman, the colour was considered very desirable and came with a price tag back to reflect that. But that was years ago. My blue was the sweetest fella but would do anything to avoid getting wet or go outside unless it was July. Back then only four colours were differentiated with the lightest being called Isabella.

I loved watching the video on KZbin about blue dobermans! Recently my 2 year old male doberman was taken to the vet's office for a dental cleaning, but a mistake was made and he was neutered instead! I'm heartbroken as I did have plans to breed him according to all standards and regulations set by the Akc. I'm trying to get his story out as much as possible as well as raise awareness about blue dobermans. Before this happened I had no idea how strongly people felt about how blue dobermans should not be bred. I was on Wral last night and it's been eye opening in regards to the lack of education people have on blue dobermans.

There is this breeder in Brighton Michigan that breeds melanistic red, fawn, and blue dobermans and sells them way overpriced. Turns out that they were gene manipulated and not even pure. They also have super high inbreeding coefficients. Some of the dobermans had chocolate lab dogs in their gene which is why they had no markings. So technically there arent even 9 colors of dobermans or at least pure dobermans.

Not always true. My aunt had an all brown dobie with genetic testing to prove he was pure. Its just different genes

It’s really not a big health concern; the surgery is simple, I’ve never heard of one causing any harm, and it even reduces the risk of future injury to the ears, since they are way too flappy for the dog’s normal activities. It’s just a simple alteration to appearance that eliminates a man-made trait for the benefit of (arguably) increased hearing and looks more adequate to the breed’s role as a guard dog.

We just got a melanistic blue pup a week ago. His name is Ronin and he is such a sweet boy. I’ve been doing lots of research on diet and topical skin preventative treatments and grooming techniques to help the CAD that he most likely will develop. His coat seems to be short and thin already at 11weeks which is a bummer for him but I’m hoping it won’t be a problem for him. We will love him regardless if he is full of fur or bald. 💕

I have a female blue doberman who is about 4 years old now. When she was given to me by my sister, her fur was already falling out, especially her trunk area. My sister said there was nothing that can be done to help her grow her fur back or stop it from falling out - this she heard from a vet(sorry but I always doubt any medical professional's advice and opinions). As a researcher, I didn't accept that. I started feeding my dog salmon dog food and a salmon oil pill daily. Since then she grew all her fur back and currently does not lose anymore

For 11 1/2 years my Sammy was my best friend, my protector and at times.. my 115 lb. baby boy.. He’s been gone for almost 4 years now.. and I still dream of him regularly and have a good cry at least a couple times a month. I lost Sam suddenly to congestive heart disease.. I had no idea he had problems, we played ball or frisbee up to a week before he died. Since then, I’ve heard other Dobie parents say their dog also died of congestive heart disease. I’ve watched several of your videos,(which I enjoy very much... most of the time I’m giggling and agreeing .. and being somewhat comforted hanging with someone that adores Doberman Pinchers as much as I do) anyhow.. in the videos I haven’t heard you mention this health issue. Is it common or were we just very unlucky? I feel very guilty.. like a bad parent sometimes.. He was at his vet within 6 months of his death and not a word of this was mentioned to me.. I had a red and rust dobbie once, when I was little. My parents did, at least. His name was Jake, and from pictures (because I can't remember him, I was like, 3 ) he was very handsome. He passed, sadly, from some kind of tumor I believe. He had to be put down. I wish I could have remembered him. At the time, my parents also had a black lab named Sadie, who was younger than Jake. One time, some coyotes tried to lure in Sadie when she was a puppy, and Jake heard her terrified barks, and ran out to save her from the coyotes. They were amazing dogs. Rest in piece you too.

I use to have the black and rust,red and rust and the fawn..I had 3 males and 2 females.I breed my one AKC male with my 2 females ack.And had 20 pups altogether.And both females had a fawn pup.Dobermans are very smart, intelligent clever fast sneaky eager pushy bossy demanding argumentive, gracious and protective dogs.Dobermans aren't afraid of any thing except a gun.And that is to be expected.

I have had red and I have had black. RED ARE DIFFERENT THAN BLACK in my experience. My reds were more high strung. I tend to do better with black. My fiancée is always drawn toward red. We both have had Dobies for over 35 years.

You shouldn't downplay the issue of coat thinning in the dilution factor dobes (blues and fawns) by saying "their coats are just a little bit thinner." Puppies have a good coat, and they are gorgeous, but generally between 6 months and 3 years old, their coat starts thinning. The dog will end up with noticeable areas of very thin hair-some are even practically bald. This kind of thinning coat is basically just a cosmetic issue (fortunately the dog's skin color matches its coat color, so the lack of hair isn't in-your-face obvious) and the doberman personality still shines through. But couple the naturally thin coat with the actual condition of CDA, where the hair is breaking off beneath the surface of the skin, and the dog will be almost bald with rough scaly skin and moderately frequent skin infections. But because blue and fawn puppies have a good coat with gorgeous and unusual coloring, and the thinning doesn't show up until later, an unsuspecting puppy buyer may not realize their dog will end up with almost bare skin in places. There are blue and fawn dobes who will keep a decent coat, but most won't. Buyers, do your research.
