I recently purchase a bungee type cord that you hang from a tree in the backyard. At the end is a heavy thick knotted rope. My 10 month old Doberman absolutely loves breaks of jumping, pulling etc. I keep it to just 15 minutes which is a GREAT workout. I also play Hide N Seek inside the house and he loves to grab a toy and for me to chase him thru every room of the house until he collapses from all the excitement. I always take him to Home Depot and Pet Smart like twice a week. I take him and run errands to get gas or ATM, etc. He loves watching people, etc. I hide HIGH_END treats in the grass and ask Hannibal to "FIND IT" and he learns to use his God given instinct. I step on each treat beforehand to put my scent on it

I loved my Dalmation, and have been thinking of getting a Doberman for years - low shedding is definitely a plus - however, please know that Dalmations are NOT low shedding dogs - they shed like crazy - I can personally attest to this with 13 years of experience with mine!

Yes! My Blue Doberman had a very coarse coat ( the fur that she did have) and would always poke into your foot or sneak into your socks. My black/rust puppy is so soft and actually sheds less than my blue.

Yep, regular brushing 2x/week (Furminator, grooming gloves), bathing (baby, oatmeal shampoo) and wipe down regularly, healthy diet (Omega oils, RAW diet or high quality kibble) and exercise. Also, don't stress your dog out, that can lead to shedding. Yes, their hairs can be prickly similar to Shar Pei. Ive seen this depends on the litter. Vacuum 2x/week.

Re: the hairs sticking in feet - All of my Boxers (5 over 20 years) had barbed hairs that every so often would stick in the bottom of our feet (it maybe happened 4 times over that 20 years but was so odd it sticks in memory). Off to buy those gloves right now for my last Boxer (and they will come in handy for my future Doberman).

My girl sheds quite a lot especially after the winter going into spring, on the tile it is no problem but on light clothes and sometimes on the bed sheets (when she has been naughty jumping on the bed) after drying my wash on the line I will put it in the dryer for 5 minutes and I can see a difference, plus the dryer's filter does fill up with her hair.

I'm not sure if others have thought of this, but to get my dobe's shedded hair out of the furniture, I would use the heavy rubber dish washing gloves and run my hands over the furniture, like you did Arlo, I've even used the rubber grooming gloves to do that and it seemed to work for me. My first dobe had the real sharp hair, but just along his back, he leaned against my sister one day and she thought I poked her with a needle, that's how sharp his hair was, the one thing that fixed the hair, was, I was given a pekingese rescue dog for my birthday, and she would walk up and down his body and give him a bath, that was the only thing that worked, I had tried oatmeal shampoos and everything I could think of, but nothing worked. He was a red dobe, maybe that had something to do with his hair feeling so sharp. I no longer have anymore dobes, they've all crossed the rainbow bridge, but I get my doberman fix watching your channel, Arlo is amazing, you're doing a fantastic job with him. I look forward to seeing him grow and thrive. Thanks for sharing.
@DobermanPlanet4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for this comment! It does seem to me that more owners of red Dobie have the pointy hair issues. So that definitely might be part of it. I like your rubber glove idea!
@yovonne72 ай бұрын
Yep. I've had those dog hair "splinters" in my feet. I got it with my boxer too. It's the stiff short hairs and pointed ends that make it easier to dig into the skin on the bottom of our feet. My dobie sheds quite a bit in the summer but moderately throughout the year. He seems to have sensitive skin too so maybe that's why it's a bit more than other dobers? 🤷🏼♀ Regardless I'm constantly sweeping and vacuuming!

I use a zoom groom for about 20 minutes three times a week. Mine does shed quite a lot. The other thing about regular body scrubs is you see how much oils and dirt are on the coat. Within two weeks of bathing the zoom is really grey with oil & dead skin. He loves his body rubs, soon as he sees the zoom groom he'll stand in front of me. Then sit on the mat as I brush his hair up & come back for more.

Instead of olive oil have you tried fish oil? That’s what I generally use. It’s the same omega fatty acids but from what I was told the fish oil provides more and is absorbed better. My vet recommended it for my bulldog and his coat shines like never before

Hi John, Shushan here, came back to this video to rewatch and learn more. A small question - do you trim your dog’s hair? If yes, any recommendation on tools, techniques? An updated video with more on doberman coat I think would be helpful for many - trimming hair, other systematic care tips (like cleaning eyes, teeth, ears, butt 😂, paws, nose & paw moisturizers, etc etc), small details that will be useful on daily basis, but people don’t think of initially. I have checked out the article, and that was very useful. Just a video recommendation that I think would be a much needed one. Thanks so much! You’re creating awesome content 🤎

Hey while you were brushing Arlo I noticed him trying to just nibble on ur hand and you having to get the chew toy for him. I personally don’t have a Doberman but I like ur content and some of it really works on my Goldie. My question is that even my dog tries to “bite” me when I brush him and I swear I’m being very gentle. Sometimes he just “holds” my hand in his mouth. I dnt really like tht and I would like to know if there is a way to make him stop doing tht. And yea I tried the chew toy but he still seems to be going for my hand.

My last dog was a lab. So it pretty much sounds like Dobermans are 100% hypoallergenic and never EVER shed 🤣. Also - wanted to give folks a “heads up” - they may want to check out Avoderm dog food. Same lab had allergies and sensitive skin and would get “hot spots”. I tried many different brands and Avoderm ended up being my final choice for her whole life. Also fed it to my other 2 dogs with really impressive results. Vet recommended for healthy skin and coat - esp for short-haired dogs with dry or sensitive skin (I’m not a rep, just a happy customer!). I also noticed this brand recommended on a few of the Doberman sites you recommend.

Please do a video on raw feeding versus kibble for dobermans
@loijanbokijan4334 жыл бұрын
Raw meat based diet is INCOMPARABLY healthier than even the best kibble you can find. ALL pet foods, no matter how ''good'' or expensive they are, are thermally processed, extruded, dehydrated or dried, have A TON of unnecessary and unhealthy additives that dogs DO NOT NEED, have grains, have plants and vegetables, have meat flour and meat meals, have processed oils and fats and so on and so forth. Feeding raw is just INCOMPARABLY healthier than feeding kibble, any kibble. There are A TON, A BILLION health benefits to feeding your dog raw, because raw meat and bones are what is biologically appropriate for your dog (and cats) to eat - not thermally processed foods. Some guy (or girl) just posted a comment about exactly this so you can check that comment out, he/she wrote all the health benefits of feeding your dog with biologically appropriate diet. I was also about to write about feeding raw because all coat issues as well as shedding can be 50% gone by just feeding your dog with raw diet. theres no need for shampoos, brushes, food additives and whatnot.
