In the Elvis Costello original, there was an undercurrent of bitterness. Four and a half decades after the fact, in the hands of this maestro, there is an undercurrent of forgiveness. Time may not heal all wounds, but it certainly does wonders for perspective. Pure genius.

Nick produced the original track. He heard it for what it was and 35 years later... the phrasing and nuance! Melody man.

I have loved this song since 1977 and, if pressed, I might call it my favorite song from my favorite musician. Nonetheless, having heard it hundreds of times, I can not easily enter it with fresh ears and hear it as if for the first time. Mr. Lowe's lovely version lets me do that, especially with something such as the surprisingly intimate way he sings the last line of the first verse (at 01:20), as if reluctant to speak the thought out loud. It is lovely to know that EC was in the room to hear this.

Nick admitted he didn't do much for the Attractions but stopped the hassling between members. He knew little about knobs and tech. But he wrote clever songs with Brisley Schwartz the incredible "Surrender to the Rhythm" and the cool "Country Girl". Then on his own songs like Cruel to be kind and Marie Prevost (who really was a doggie's dinner)

Well, sorry Elvis C., but I like Nick's better. Don't be hurt -- I still love "Almost Blue," "Different Finger," and your fantastic duet w/George Jones on "My Very Special Guests" -- the brilliant "Stranger In The House." And so many more...but NIck's had my heart since at least 1980, if not before. You still have Diana and the boys to console you, luv!

I like listening to real youtubers doing covers and some are better than the original...but not this one. You lost the whole rhythm of the song here. good voice and no doubt talented...but not the best version i have heard today...just saying.

he produced the original song and costello was in the audience. of course he's gonna do his own version. this is also the way costello has played it since the 80s.
