I agree that this is probably the best frog rod in the $100-150 range (I think it's currently at $130). I would also go a step further and say that the Dobyn's Fury line fishes above its price point. It has great backbone to set a hook pretty far out and can horse fish through moderate vegetation no problem. It also has just enough tip and sensitivity to feel pretty much everything. I can launch a hollow body frog on this rod. The only downside to me is its length and weight. It's not heavy but it's not super light either, and after a day of frogging you will eventually feel it (although that just comes with the territory so it is what it is). It's also about 3 inches too long in my personal opinion, but I'm primarily a bank and kayak angler. If I had a bass boat I'd have no problem with the length. All in all though this rod is great and I haven't found one in this price range that fishes better than the FR 735C.

Great summary and you covered some items I wish I had during the video. They definitely perform above their price point. I also gave a swim bait rod (fury series) and it’s a beast!

Dobyns rods have really become super popular with anglers. I love my Fury. Have my eye on the Kaden too. Great video!

I have the same rod Okie. It is my favorite rod. Due to the weight rating I can cast pretty much anything on it. It is the only Dobyns I own but certainly not my last. I loathe the hook keeper as well. For me the “best” is quantified by 1Cost 2Sensitivity 3feel in hand 4.durability all of those things combined on that order equal value to me. Keep up the great work

The hook keeper is infuriating! I’m falling in love with them. My big swim rod is nice too

Okie Outdoor Adventures did you get the 795?
@davidsedlacek38554 жыл бұрын
I have 2 Fury & 2 Sierra series, Definitely recommend! Dobyns the balance, feel, action and power are very consistent in the models which i like. I think it's better to stay with the same rod builder then jumping from one manufacturer to another for different set ups cause of the large differences you find. Once you find what works for yourself, at a level of performance you want to pay for....why change! I guess that's why there are so many to choose from!

I know I’m late to the party here but I just found this video - I have the entire D-Fury casting lineup except for the 735C, 765 Flip, and 806HSB. Before these I mainly used rods from Lews and 13Fishing. I was using a 7’2” SLX heavy rod with SLX DC for walking frogs, spooks, and poppers until I tried a tip from FlukeMaster which was to use a 6’6” for walking style baits. Since then I’ve used the 664C and I’ll never go back. It’s so much easier to get the lures to walk however, if you get hit especially on the frog at the end of your cast, the shorter rod does make it more difficult to set the hooks. It hasn’t been enough of an issue to go back to the 7’2” Heavy SLX or the FR734C.
@OkieOutdoorAdventures3 жыл бұрын
I haven’t had too many issues walking with the 735, but I could see how it could be easier with a shorter setup. I’m a bit spoiled by how much touch it actually has compared to some other heavy models. I’ve also got the swimbait rod and it’s a beast too.

@@OkieOutdoorAdventures I’ve been using my 795SB in saltwater for blues and stripers this season with an Alijoz 300. That rod is insane. I do wish I picked up the Champion XP 795SB. It is significantly lighter for all day casting.

What do you look for when purchasing a new rod? How would YOU define 'best"? Price, functionality, aesthetics?
@saminthewoods4 жыл бұрын
Okie Outdoor Adventures I'll tell you what. I bought a scheels rod with lifetime warranty 6 years ago. You're allowed 4 a year of you break them. In 6 years,I've replaced it 7 times. Those rods change and you get the upgrade with the warranty. I started with the rod costing 80 bucks. Now the same upgraded rod cost 140. Nano titanium one. I went from a walleye rod to a medium heavy bass /pike rod since they were the same price. Casts, performs very well. Got my moneys worth,and not done yet. They changed the warranty to 3 years and you better have the receipt. Just take a pic of the receipt is good enough,and scheels honors it fine.

😁👍Looks nice! Never had a Dobyns rod but For that same money I bet you can get a st croix that will be even better. I have G loomis and St croix rods and a couple other cheaper brands but the st croix and G loomis are top notch. I recently picked up a cheap st croix triumph series casting rod and it feels really nice and this is the lowest line they have with there scII graphite.. I have a video showing it. you can catch fish on any rod but I noticed once you fish with a higher end rod and then fish with a normal like $100.00 good rod for a while then you use your Higher end rod you can quickly notice what you do not feel on those lower end rods... I fished for a while with a basspro carbonlite $100.00 rod in the winter for a long time then when I tried out my st croix Avid or legend elite models I could actually feel the lures movements into the rods the swimbaits tails you can feel moving side to side or a crank bait slapping from side to side right into the rod it's crazy! G loomis also do this.
@ericking64983 жыл бұрын
Question as to which swimbaits you've thrown on this and if you felt like having the super high speed real was a problem as a coupling for them. I plan on getting this for frogging primarily, but if I can sneak some small glide bait action onto it, that would be super awesome :).
@OkieOutdoorAdventures3 жыл бұрын
So, I’ve thrown the Gantrell Jr. a couple BD Shad 6”, several of the bigger Keitech soft bodies, Vatalion, and a few other small. Not a fan of the higher ratio but you can make it work. This thing is the best rod I’ve found for walking baits. Spooks and frogs are my primary and it does a great job.
