Too many people focus on overall weight vs balance, thanks for pointing out how important it is. I build a lot of my own blanks now and having 5-10g's on the back is money. Would love to send you a point blank to test out.

@@rhodesianhunter9360 The point blanks are amazing, great tapers and sensitivity. My 7'3MH is probably the most versatile blank I own. NFC x-rays are also great, just finished my 725 and was really happy with it. But yeah, I would recommend trying out a PB. Cheers!

Iv'e had the exact same rod for a number of years now. Hands down one of the best shakey head rods out there. Definitely consider using that baby for full size shakey heads--you won't be disappointed!

The 894 and Xtasy balance comparison is spot on. I have both and the Dobyns feels lighter in hand because of the balance.

Seems about like P5 X-Bites for applications and weights. Thought Dobyns always seemed nice but never knocked my socks off. Almost bought the champion chatterbait cb glass model but the heavy complaints was too negative for me.

Solid review Brian! I personally dislike dobyns, so much so that I actually build all my rods myself, and once you build your own/buy a custom rod you will never go back. Just a quick little tip, most custom rod builders use a system called “the common cents system” it’s a way of figuring out a rods true power and action. Typically it’s done by trusted builders and it’s a long process but the reason I bring it up is they also have data on the different powers and actions of rod blanks from major manufacturers. It’s definitely worth looking into. If you ever do get the chance to buy a custom rod I highly recommend using one. I personally build fully custom rods for my customers so they can choose everything from the blank, guides, grips, reel seat, thread color and anything else you can think of. That being said there are many other great custom builders out there. They just tend to be quite a bit more expensive. Love the content keep it up!

Great review, I like my Dobyns casting rods. The spinning rod handles need an overhaul bad, worst on the market imo and that’s why I have an arsenal of expride B spinning rods!

To add to my last comment yes I have the 754C and this was my first high-end Rod so it took me a second to get used to it sing as you can feel everything even a farting on your lure. The balance is great. I’m running a chronic CI4 well worth the money!

I love mine. I’ve been liking dobyns more and more that I use them. But then again I had to buy some nrx and DRX just to feel the difference. I love both. Also the reason why people go with dobyns is because there always a sale going on

Hands-down, my favorite light Texas rig Rod. I also use it for a half ounce micro jigs my Texas rig set up is 5/16 oz with a zoom Magnum, Speed

Honestly now that you mention it. I feel all my dobyns are heavy but with a reel it feels quite balanced and when it’s balanced it feels quite light

100% agree on their spinning rods grips. Sold each of my dobyns spinning rods just because of it. Just seems old school and uncomfortable compared to newer designs. Put the grip above the reel and I'd buy one again.

I have a question Brian looking for a Casting Rod in MH Fast in the $ 150 to $ 300 dollar price range just a great Multi Purpose 7’2 or 7’3 rod to do a lot of stuff. What Rod would you suggest that is a great Rod and punches above its price tag. I have some St Croix Legends and Shamino Expride B, I am not brand loyal person just like a good rods but not an ultra high end Guy. I did see the New Diawa Zillion but to be honest I liked the Tatula felt better at half the cost. Thanks

There's no material to hold on to above the reel. All the handle cork is down where you don't hold the rod. They need to flip it over.

Dobyns makes nice looking and decent rods but I prefer my G. Loomis and Megabass rods to them. They're sensitivity, to me falls short, and their good balance (for me) is not an equal swap for sensitivity. Their ratings can be so very far off from your experience with the rods that you just end up scratching your head. I have quite a few Exteremes and several Xtasy's, but over time I end up picking up other rods in their category before them. Nice review Brian. Gary Dobyns is a true gentleman!

Brian, a Dobyns??? That is so not like you..... :-) Good review and I agree with your assessment. If you don't pay full retail, and you can pick one of these up on the aftermarket for sub $375 to $350, it is a very fine fishing tool. I fish a lot of Dobyns Champ XPs for my moving bait applications, but I would never spend $500 for an Xtasy.

I wouldn’t pay $550 for xtasy but you can find used xtasy for $300 which I’ll buy . Occasionally you can get 30% off dobyns throughout the years I own a few xtasy in spinning and casting and love fishing with them . Let’s say I sold 2 NRX to get more xtasy

I like Dobyns Rods. I have prolly have 30+. Mostly the DX series. I like the DX rods. The XTasy's are a different story. I have broken 2-745 XTasy rods on hooksets. I don't think I am going to expand this line.
