This is the first track of Doc I ever heard, in my early teens. (1970-The Best of Doc Severinsen). That was the moment I realized that Herb Alpert was not the greatest trumpeter on the planet.

I can still remember being in 6th Grade and hearing LPs of Doc and Maynard for the first time. Like you, I was blown away. Of course, Herb may have been the greatest trumpeter at the bank! $$$
