I had most of the ingredients on hand - including the amazing grenadine! (No lemons so I just used lime). And of course I don’t have the fancy blender. But so tasty!!

I have my own riff on this inspire by Tower of Power that I call The Funky Doctor. It's a bit stronger in that I use three really funky rums: Probitas, Smith & Cross, and Hamilton Jamaican Black. I also swap out the absinthe for all spice dram. Just remember, hipness is what it is, but sometimes hipness is what it ain't.

And btw: you german pronunciation of 'funk' comes with a heavy american accent, which is fine, guessing you didn't have lots of practice on this. I love the dialects and accents of my mothertounge. Der 'Funk' translates to wireless or radio, while der 'Funken' translates to spark, but this is another story... Cheers and zum Wohl!

Yes! I love this cocktail! I made it with 2oz of the Hamilton Pot Still Black like in Smuggler's cove! Dr.Funk is the perfect name because as you drink it "funky" (in a good way) is the first word that just keeps coming to your mind. I also bought a $20 milk frother for flash blending my drinks and it works pretty well!

Funk in german ist pronounced like you told and means something like Radio, but it can mean military chat via walkie talkie.

That's right, because Funk (or Funke / Funken) means spark and the first radios were based on sparks (pop spark transmitters), hence the word Funk for radio. Dr Funk's name is much older though. So my theory is that his ancestors were blacksmiths or fireworkers. Funk, Funck, Funke and Funcke are common family names in Germany.

Sorry, but: 'Der Schiss' is incorrect translation. The meaning of 'Schiss' is literally shit or fear - such a big fear you shit yourself. But the meaning of 'Funk' is wireless or radio or broadcast. So no funky funks. Just to clear ehhhmm things out.

Wish your grenadine was available in Sweden, everything we have in stores here is literally raspberry syrup labeled as grenadine (it really does not contain pomegranate at all). But I’ve made my own using your recipe, so ’tis all good!

Hi @andersErickson, native German and French speaker here... "Funk" is indeed pronounced "Foonk", and the translation has nothing to do with the music genre, but would translate into "wireless radio". As for "Cafard", the literal translation from French is "cockroach", but to "have the cafard" (an expression popularized by author Charles Baudelaire), means to be in a melancholic mood.
