Doctor Mike Hansen - BA.4 and BA.5 COVID Variant now DOMINANT - The 'worst variant' is here -

Right now COVID is running rampant again, and it’s the BA.4 and BA.5 variant, the subvariants of omicron, that is now the dominant strain (BA.5 that is).
This is because BA.5.has 3 key mutations in its spike protein that make it better at infecting our cells, and better at evading our immune system. BA.5 is the most transmissible, the most contagious version of covid to date. And oh yeah, it has properties of the delta variant, specifically it’s higher propensity to get down into your lungs, and that’s why some are calling this, the real DELTACRON.
Just when you think COVID is over, and you think all is well, because you’ve either been vaccinated, or you had previous covid infection, or both…well guess what?!
It only took 2 months for BA.5 to become the dominant strain in the United States, and tons of people are getting sick right now. Chances are you know someone who’s been sick with BA.4 or BA.5.
More and more people are diagnosing themselves with at home rapid tests, which means a higher percentage of cases are not being reported. So its becoming harder and harder to know the actual number of cases.
Right now, the number is 110,000 new covid infections per day - but of course we know that the true disease burden is way higher than that.
It’s estimated to be that for every reported case, there are 8-10 cases that are unreported. Which means an estimated 1 million new cases of covid every day.
BA.4 and BA.5 don’t really care about your previous infections or vaccinations. Because they do a great job of escaping those antibodies.
That’s certainly what happened with me, and a lot of people I know personally.
I came down with covid in early June, most likely BA.4 or BA.5.
I developed symptoms about 2-3 days after going out to a concert. Fatigue. Fever. Congested. Cough. And oddly enough, a very sore throat.
Most of those symptoms started to fade after 4 days. But the fatigue and cough took a solid 2 weeks to improve. And even then, I still had some leftover crap that I was coughing out of my lungs.
Thankfully I was never short of breath…and I didn’t need any medications….but it was NOT a fun experience….despite it being considered only “mild” covid illness. Because moderate or severe illness would have meant a trip to the hospital.
So here you have someone who was triple vaxxed, otherwise in great health, who was sick for 2 weeks.
But here is the thing. I personally know a lot of people who are having very similar experiences with this new BA.5 variant. Including this nasty sore throat, which really wasn’t a thing with previous variants. Definitely one of the worst sore throats I’ve ever had.
But if I’m triple vaxxed, and otherwise very healthy..I mean, I exercise, I eat very clean, I rarely eat processed food, been getting good sleep…
I thought that if I got covid, especially with omicron or its subvariants, that it would be nothing more than a mild cold that lasted a few days.
So what gives?
It’s mainly 2 things.
For one, even though I received 3 shots, my last one was 8 months before getting COVID…and we know that immunity generally wanes after 5 months from the vaccines. Two, we know that BA.4 and BA.5 are better at evading those antibodies.
In fact, they’re escaping antibodies from those who’ve had previous covid infections, including omicron.
That’s right if you had omicron infection this spring, there is still a real possibility that you can get sick from BA.4 and BA..5. Although it’s still too early to know just how sick people can get from these variants.
What we do know is that right now the percentage of patients requiring the intensive care unit has increased 23% over the last two weeks. Is it because there are more infections, or is it also because BA.4 and BA.5 causes more severe illness? To early to tell right now.
But the bottom line is, this variant doesn’t really care about your previous antibodies to covid. You can still get sick from this virus. So in that sense, it doesn’t matter if you’ve had covid before, or if you’ve been vaccinated, especially if it’s been more than 5 months from your last shot.
The vaccines are great at protecting against severe covid, but not so much when it comes to mild COVID.

I got a mild case of original Covid early March 2021. Then I took both shots of Pfizer in late July and August. Both shots made me feel ill for 24 hours and the second one gave me a pain in my heart. It scared me very much. I took an aspirin every 6 hours that day and the pain went away. I do not want to get any ore shots!!! I’m 63 and live healthfully. But you are promoting more shots for someone like me. I don’t think they’re as helpful as you say.

They’re helpful for what they’re designed for. Basically all the deaths from delta were unvaccinated folks, so it helped dramatically there. These new variants may be more contagious and milder, so getting vaccinated for these strains may not be as much of an emergency as delta or alpha were. So if a new massively deadly strain comes around, targeted vaccines will be a good idea. It’s all context.

I came down with Covid around the 8th of June. I had just taken my mom to the Dr Monday of that week & she was tested negative for Covid, she just had a virus. I was fine until Thursday of that week & woke up with a bad headache that I had all day. The following day when I got up, I felt like someone had taken every bit of energy out of me like I could just collapse from walking. It lasted at least 6+ days. During that time, I had a sore throat for 2-3 days. Too, I had no taste buds whatsoever for at least 3+ weeks. I hardly ever get sick & wouldn't wish that on anyone.

I’m in my late 60s with T2 diabetes. I had the first two vaccinations but no boosters yet. I contracted covid early in July. After being diligent about wearing a mask and using sanitizer these past 2 1/2 years, I slacked off. It started like a head cold but quickly moved into my lungs and the sore throat started. On about the fourth day, I got a touch of pneumonia. I also received an infusion of monoclonal antibodies on the 4th day. Besides the lung congestion, I had one of the worst sore throats I’ve ever had. After about 9-10 days I was feeling much better but still had some congestion. That is pretty much gone now but my sense of smell and taste is off a bit. I’m also a bit fatigued.

While it may SEEM like it GOT you because you "slacked" off of your PRECAUTIONS, all of the SERIOUS research is showing the opposite. The more highly vaxxed and masked your country is, the higher your rates of infection eg. Japan. PS How can the NIH, FDA, WHO justify perscribing Moderna for CHILDREN when it has been BANNED in Europe for males under 30 years old, for OVER a year now due to serious heart inflammation in young males? Why is OUR system NOT raising the alarm?

My sons dad ( 56) had this variant recently. 4 days of fever and sore throat. He’s 56 and unvaccinated with a compromised immune system and chronic asthma. He required no medical intervention and made a full recovery. I had the omicron variant last December ( 2 weeks of exhaustion but otherwise no symptoms) and haven’t caught this latest variant ( to my knowledge) despite being in close contact with several people who have tested positive for it. I haven’t had any vaccinations. Could it just be that some people’s immune systems are better at fighting this despite vaccination status? The only people I know personally who’ve got really sick from covid have been fully vaccinated . Purely anecdotal I know, but I haven’t seen a pattern of more severe illness amongst my unvaccinated family and friends, if anything it’s been the opposite.

I am a nurse who refused the vaccine and had to submit a religious exemption to stay employed. Last January, we had an outbreak of omicron at my dementia unit where 20 of our residents contracted it. All of the residents were boosted in December. I finally caught it despite wearing N95 respirators as did several of my coworkers, vaccinated and not vaccinated. All I got was a fever, headache, and diarrhea. After three days, my symptoms were gone. I was back to work after 5 days, taking care of the covid positive residents. I stopped testing positive on rapid tests after 12 days. The person who brought in omicron was a restorative therapy CNA who had also recieved their booster dose in December. She did a 20 minute therapy session with who would become the first resident to test positive during this outbreak on Thursday, December 30th. She didn't feel well on Friday, test negative on a rapid test, and a PCR test was submitted. The results came back late Sunday that she was positive, and she became more symptomatic over the weekend. This resident she unknowingly exposed tested positive Sunday night. Jan 2nd. I took care of this resident on 3rd shift Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday night. My before and after shift rapid tests were negative Sunday night, Monday morning, Monday night, Tuesday morning, and Tuesday night. My PCR test from Monday morning was negative. Wednesday morning, my rapid test was positive, a 2nd one was again positive, and PCR I did after those two test came back positive two days later.

I tested positive for Covid-19 on July 15th, and compared to the first battle with the virus which was in December of 2019, this variant is much different. The first variant I contacted hit me like a hammer, sore throat, fever, fatigue, cough, running nose, stiffness in the back of neck, lost sense of smell and taste and headaches all at once. I was in bed for four days with no appetite whatsoever. I returned to work after a week and a half but it took me about another month to fully recover. Keep in mind, this was before Covid-19 pandemic was officially named. This present variant is quite different. I have been vaccinated but not boosted. I had all of the previous symptoms albeit milder, but the symptoms are lingering much longer this time, and coming in stages. As of August 1st, I'm still testing positive and still have symptoms. I believe this virus will keep mutating and keep changing and will be with us for years to come. I truly believe that we have to treat Covid-19 like a marathon race and not a sprint.

I recently had it . It was only two days of raised temperature. My strength never went. I thought it was a typical summer flu. But someone I met said he had Covid and so I was surprised that my symptoms are actually from this virus. The other person was also fit again after two days. Compared to the earlier covid infection that I had before this one was absolutely benign.

We need to _control_ for observation. The majority of people are vaccinated. A bigger proportion of _inherently_ vulnerable people are vaccinated. In terms of the course of time there are less unvaccinated remaining to be hospitalised and die who are _inherently_ vulnerable to the virus. It would be disingenuous to compare (I'm presuming your fairly young and healthy) between an unvaccinated 20 year old to a triple vaccinated 80 year old with health issues.

The vaccines don't affect the first factor and they improve the other factors. Everybody who took high school biology should have learned that. corona virus's don't mutate strategically like bacterium do. The simply mutate haphazardly. If they do evade a vaccine, it's cause they've mutated thousands of times, to the point that the vaccine is no longer effective. So when the vaccines first came out, the virus hadn't mutated enough to render the vaccine inefficiant. They were still 90% efficiant.

I live in Massachusetts where they just stopped reporting cases on weekdays in favor of reporting weekly. Right as we're going into the next wave of covid-19 in the last week our hospitalizations have gone up somewhere between 5 and 8% depending on what metric you use and the first day of reporting in this new schedule they reported 7,000 new cases on 94,000 tests. Last winter we were performing around 120,000 tests per day but we have pretty much given up and no one is wearing a mask but me. I am the last Carpenter that I know of who wears a mask at work all day everyday if I plan on having a sip of coffee I go to my truck if I'm going to drink a water I step outside and away from the airflow of the building full of maskless contractors and drink my water. I eat my lunch in my truck and I use hand sanitizer before I touch my face. There is no one else who still does this in my periphery. I hope everyone stays safe and I hope each wave of covid becomes less deadly but I doubt that will be the case

@Media Content ~ My sincere condolences for the loss of your parents. You didn’t mention your Country, but can you possibly go to Urgent Care for your current issue? Your untreated (worse) issues need a Doc who will get your history, labs, etc. In the U.S. you need a primary doctor to refer you to a specialist if one or more are needed. If you live elsewhere, you may be able to see a specialist right away. When you call for appointments, mention your symptoms for your worse issues and ask for the soonest available and/or ask if you can be on a cancellation list. If someone last minute cancels their appointment, they would call you to see if you can come in. Otherwise, I’m not certain to whom you want to discuss your concerns. Do be assertive about saying what your issues are, how long you’ve had them, and politely but firmly insist you need to be seen the sooner the better. Good luck!

I am at 10 days and the sinus stuffiness and exhaustion is lingering. It is really helpful to feel that this is ‘normal’ for recovery. As long as the virus continues to mutate, you must continue to receive boosters. BA.5 runs right over any antibodies you may have from vaccines or infections. We should still take vaccines as they will help to boost your T-cell count (the soldiers of this immune system). Why do we have to keep going thru this? Because it wasn't properly handled in the early days. People would rather listen to Trump, who knew nothing, or take Ivermectin (which induces severe liver damage because it is meant for parasites and nit viruses. People still wanted to go on cruises and do what they wanted to do like spoiled children. Now, it will takes YEARS for us to get out of this mess.

I’m not sure about the vaccine or natural immunity, but here’s what I know from my experience. I’m not vaccinated and I had Covid only once. While my vaccinated friends, family members and other people I know had Covid twice in most cases and some even three times. I’m not an expert but I think it’s safe to say that the vaccine is not that great. I’m 29 years old, healthy with a very minor heart condition that I was born with and I eat good food and I drink moderate ammount of alcohol. I take vitamin D3 + K2 and B though, which is probably a good thing to do for everybody, not just because there’s Covid.

It absolutely DOES matter if they've had the shots- especially the more they've had- they've wrecked their immune systems. People who didn't take it are not catching it that much during the summer and when they do get it now it has declined in virulence to the point where the illness is largely mild and brief. "Like an annoying cold", they say. I hope everyone enjoyed mocking us who didn't want these & tried to warn them, calling us loonies and conspiracy theorists. We only tried to warn you but you wouldn't listen. At the end it comes down to each person makes their own decisions & has to take personal responsibility for that. The truth remains that the unjabbed are not becoming violently ill from this. Our immune systems remained intact.

I know a family where all members have been fully vaccinated, but yet, every time a variant comes around, every single one of them gets it. I think they've all had Covid at least four times. Then, they keep giving the vaccines credit for their "mild illnesses." I think part of the issue is that they continue to live like Covid doesn't exist; they travel on planes, go to large gatherings, throw caution to the wind, etc. They feel like they're super-human because of the vaccines, and then they continue to get sick and most likely, spread it to everyone else they meet. I'm not drawing any conclusions, but you've made some very valid points.

I am triple vaxed as of Oct, young and healthy. End of Jan, I tested positive (I assume Omnicron) and this was 3-5 days of what I would call uncomfortable symptoms (like 99.5 fever, sore throat, congestion/cough). Last week (4 months later) I test positive again (I assume BA4/5) even after wearing kn95 indoors when in public, and this time I was much sicker, fever was ~101, lasted 2 days longer and the sore throat hurt way more, congestion made me feel like I was drowning. These variants clearly evade prior immunities well.

There have been a couple of times I was able to speak normal for 2 days so I know it’s possible but when I start to get excited that maybe this nightmare is over, it goes again and it’s weeks before I can have a lengthy conversation without my voice giving out. The video said the vaccines won’t prevent you from getting the new variants, but it likely still reduced the symptoms if you got over it in less than a week and didn’t have severe illness. “A mask” is super vague. It has to be a good quality mask that fits well and could have also taken it off at some point when you were around an infected person who may not have had any symptoms noticeable to you. So, maybe the mask you wore didn’t help you or maybe it did a little and you would have caught it faster or more often without the mask if you kept exposing yourself to infected people.

I got it 3 days after a routine endoscopy, which I am convinced gave it to me as I had no other exposure. Not much fever, but nausea, fatigue, a cough. I go back to work one week. The week after that I had a hacking cough, developed laryngitis and bronchitis. I had to see a pulmonary MD. Finally feeling better after a month. No joke. Missed a week or so of work. Will get a booster this fall.

I’m triple vaxed and got COVID 2 weeks ago from my daughter who went to a concert. I still have the cough and the pressure in my head with headache was awful. Took me 11/2 hours to sleep from coughing

I came down with COVID in late May/early June. It basically felt like allergies to me, with a cough. The cough was fairly mild, but it took about two weeks to fully clear out of my system.

Everyone is so different. I had my primary set of Moderna's vaccine. I had a weird reaction after the second dose so I never got any of my boosters and I don't intend to do so either. On 7/6/2022, I started to get chills and had a fever for a day. I had no other symptoms and felt fine by the next evening and was planning on going to work thinking it wasn't COVID, but my brother-in-law was also sick and tested positive for COVID and we were with him on the Fourth. I tested and sure enough, I had COVID. Felt fine for the remainder of the four days I had to quarantine from work. My wife tested positive the next day and had a couple bouts of diarrhea but no other symptoms. My kids seemed fine the entire time. This reinforces my decision to not want a booster. It affects everyone so differently.

I’m 61, had COVID on New Year’s Eve . I had chills, body aches, horrible headache for about 36 hours but the fatigue came on and off for about a week. I’m not vaccinated at all. I just tested positive again 3 days ago. This time it’s even lighter. I just body aches and a headache just for about 24 hours, milder than last time, Totally back to normal in 2 days, no fatigue, no lingering headaches, much milder than flu or cold. I think I’m better off unvaccinated. Two of my co-workers had it , they were much younger, triple vaccinated but were much sicker.

I'm 70 and live in Utah. Back on about May 5 or so, we had very strong winds that kicked up a LOT of dust and my wife and I were having particularly bad (we thought) allergy attacks. Turns out it was COVID (based on each of us getting double positive on the antigen tests on May 6 and 7). That was pretty much it, though. I reported it to my doctor and after about 3 days the only symptom for either of us was a non-productive cough for about 2 weeks. I even started mountain biking while I still had the cough (it was mild). I suppose it was the variant before BA 4 or 5, but who knows? 2 vaccines and a booster for me with the booster in November (6 months prior) and 2 for my wife, no booster in March 2021, so 14 months ago for her. I have a friend whose athletic output was impacted for 3 months, though; she was also double vaxxed/boosted. It's the new norm, I guess.

Makes me wonder if the environment has something to do with it. My allergies kick up with winds and I get runny nose etc..headache...

Both my adult kids got covid around 2 weeks ago . I was around both. I felt like I had a mild cold for 5 hours , went to bed and felt fine the next day. The next day they told me they both had covid. Thank you Ivermectin!

@@nosuchthing8 I’m telling you it worked for me ! I had another 68 years old friend who was in her death bed in the hospital and the doctors had given up on her . Her son told the doctor that he was going to give ivermectin to her and he protested but allowed it. She made a full recovery in a few days . I swear to God this is the truth ! And our own government said quietly about 3 weeks ago that ivermectin and hydrocortisone? the one that trump recommended did actually help stop the virus !

I got it camping about two weeks ago. One of the symptoms that seems uncommon is a massive head cold. Maybe I had a secondary infection? No real sore throat just copious amounts of snot coming out of my sinuses.

I've had both Delta and BA.5, and Delta was by far the worst... They felt the same, but Delta took about ten days of which the first 4 was the worst. BA.5 only took about a quarter of the time with only a day and a half with high fever and muscle aches.
