I love that he was calling chickens "seagulls." I had a professor in research methods and statistics talk to us about the importance of knowing your study population, and used the example of how all of us in rural midwest knew what I chicken was, but if you showed a picture of a chicken to some of her friends and family from inner city NYC and asked them what it is, you are likely to get the response "i dont know, a big ass pigeon?" Because they've never seen livestock animals in person before, they've only seen ready-to-eat chicken.

It's true. My mom once said that when my cousin was young she never saw what wheat grain looked like. And when she asked my mom what she was sifting, she looked so shocked and in awe of what wheat grains really looked like. She had like small packets of each kind of grains made to show it to her friends and classmates.

This is generally more likely in edible plants than animals because like, you can google a chicken and you'll probably see images of what a live chicken looks like. You look up what a pomegranate is and you probably won't see any of the plant besides the ripe fruit unless you seek info from wikipedia or something.
