@@Trux2010 Never needed much time with the doctor. But the few times I went he was actually proactive. Raising an issue I did not even come for, like doing a blood test because of the risk of high cholesterol (family thing). But had a friend who indeed had a doctor who would only do one issue at a time, even when she was new there. Like....at least have one conversation where you can lay out your ongoing medical issues.

@@code1253most people on the internet like to maintain anonymity, so they usually don’t mention what diseases they have or any specific conditions. I know when I mention any of my friends, I never say their gender or how old they are. Yeah, it doesn’t affect if someone is going to try and find me out obviously, they can find personal information much easier by hacking me, but I like to maintain privacy with myself and my relationships just out of respect and for keeping some level of privacy. It can also be disrespectful to ask that in the case that this person has a very serious auto immune disease and they don’t want to talk about it.

@@CraftingWithTopazI think they are trying to recite the phrase “guiding others to a treasure that you yourself cannot possess”. An example of this phrase is someone who is depressed and doesn’t feel “happy” trying to make their friends laugh and make them happy, or a doctor who doesn’t take care of themselves at all who is a doctor because they want to take care of others but they themself do not value self-care. They’re trying to say that you went from not being able to posses that treasure yourself with your old doctor who did not care, to a new doctor who let you vent about your health. It’s a weird situation to apply that phrase, though, as it’s more about the different mindset of the two doctors rather than you.
@CraftingWithTopaz
@CraftingWithTopaz 2 ай бұрын
@SamRK-1000 Yeah, after your explanation, I'm not sure what his reply had to do with my experience. It wasn't just venting, it was having to advocate for myself so hard when I knew something was wrong, and the first doctor said, "You're young" and used that excuse to constantly dismiss me.

I love how passionate Doctor Mike is about making healthcare more about seeing and treating the patient as an individual person rather than a brief glance at the patient and checking boxes off a list of lab work to be done. People aren’t just values and numbers on a chart. We are all unique and our healthcare should be tailored to those uniqueness. In fact, I was a 37 year old colon cancer patient at one time. An age where such a cancer is rarely seen. Now I’m cancer free thanks to surgical intervention and regular colonoscopies!

Maybe doctors and nurses need to get a siesta in their workday! A nice 20-45-minute nap or rest in a comfortable and dimly lit place. It can really recharge you to help finish the day. A longer sleep can be detrimental, however. I've found that a 10-20 minute nap boosts me, while getting an hour or more messes with getting to sleep that night.

The hard part for me is that I'm a night owl (I've been shamed about it and have tried a million times to change it), and thankfully I have a job that's mostly afternoon/evening, but that doesn't help me be awake and available during those productive morning hours. The doctor is awake, but I'm not, lol. I imagine it also deters night owls like me from studying medicine because then early mornings are an expectation for the rest of your life.

Love a Dr who is friendly, empathetic, and listens like you mentioned. Really makes the patient and healthcare provider relationship stronger. But I see so many doctors who either look like they don’t like what they do and/or have compassion fatigue. We see how passionate you are at what you do…it’s tough cause I don’t see that too often. My ENT doctor is the best.

Just stumbled across this and I gotta say that last one from the physician hit the nail on the head. I recently had Cushing's disease, as a result I developed osteoporosis which in turn resulted in breaking my back from t4 to l3 and my killing my hips from avascular necrosis. I never really was one to go to the dr so during my treatment my dr.'s would regularly spend upwards of 30 to 40 minutes with me, until I understood what was going on or they understood what I was trying to explain how I felt. So I was kinda shocked to find out that I'm just blessed and lucky I got such great dr.'s. I couldn't imagine going through something like that and not having the person treating me not taking the time needed.

Dr Mike, I have an issue with this new wave of Doctors that don’t want to see a patient in person. My mom was having lung/breathing problems and she wanted to see the specialist in person, but the specialist was like no, I want to do virtual. My mom is old school and she didn’t feel comfortable with doing a virtual consultation, but she felt she had no choice. Luckily a nurse told my mom she doesn’t have to do what the doctor says, and if she wants to be seen in person then the doctor has no choice but to see you in person. This was Kelsey Seybold Clinic in TX. I just feel like for most conditions, it’s better to be seen in person, and no doctor should pressure or shame a patient for wanting that.

As always, making health facts fun and digestible for the general public 😊😆 you’ve really inspired my interest in medicine in general and making sure to always look for a holistic approach to patient care. Quick question for the next curbside consult: how do you recommend preventing burnout not only for yourself but also your team in a primary care setting? As always thank you for making medical information so accessible to everyone 🙏🏽😊

Correction at 3:45 : wave velocity is proportional (not inverse) to density of medium they travel through... So helium's lower density would make waves of voice travel SLOWER into gas, resulting in shorter wavelengths hitting the ear, stimulating "higher pitch" region of nerves within our cochlea.

Thank you SO much for addressing the vegan/vegetarian question like you did. The only thing I'd suggest in the future when you cover that is some people do very badly on a vegan diet, especially those like many diabetics, because so much of a vegan diet can lean on carbs, which is a no-no for those trying to avoid excess sugars. :')
