I'm a PhD in psychology. While it is true that alternative explanations need to be considered when diagnosing someone, the observations of Biden are not a first. The most important consideration to an assessment, is to compare his current verbal fluency, facial expressions, etc to a how he came across 20 or 30 years ago. There's a vast difference between Biden then and Biden now, that cannot solely be attributed to an age related change in vigor, even in combination with a cold and use of antihistamines that may cause light drowsiness as a side effect. My 96 year old grandma who is in the first stages of dementia is sharper than Biden. The facial expressions of Biden when he was not speaking, are quite typical of a person who suffers from dementia

It is amazing that it took the debate for everyone to realize Biden had a problem. When he was elected in 2020, I was recovering from extensive back surgery. My PT told me what I had observed - the he had dementia. She has worked closely with the elderly for 25 years and said there was no doubt. He has mumbled and bumbled his way through his presidency but the media covered for him. If Trump had behaved like Biden, they would have called for him to be put in a straight-jacket.

The guy has mental issues due to aging and almost certainly dementia and has since before the last election. So sad that the DNC pushed this guy like he was the best option. Rather than trying to run who is best for the country both the RNC and DNC just run those that will win rather than substance. The winning at all cost. The dems should have run someone like Tulsi G. and the reps need more like Rand Paul (give power back to the states and shrink the fed gov)

The president must be able to serve 24/7 and not just between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. If he already has severe brain damage due to the illness, he may also develop psychoses etc. in the future. Also…just an FYI, I myself also breath with my mouth slightly open when my nose is stuffy from a cold & cough, as do most people with a cold, who also speak with a soft raspy voice when their throat’s not quite feeling up to snuff. P.S. As an aside, later I might share my analysis, once it’s complete, of the timing, microphone, and other failures in the CNN moderators’ duty to implement the agreed-upon debate rules equitably (of which I’m finding more & more as I proceed through my tedious, but eye-opening task of analysis). Hint: my own mouth opened with a gasp at some of these moderators’ unnoticed but glaring inequities that no one has brought to light. No wonder Biden had that look on his face! Probably the same look on my face as I notice and note these moderators’ screw-ups.

Biden spoke like he was reading a script. I think he memorized many answers and he practiced them a lot. When he finally spoke, he was like an actor who barely can remember his lines. He spoke them without proper emotion or pauses, so it sounded unnatural and like he could not remember what he wanted to say. Trump spoke more spontaneously saying what he says over and over every day and at every rally. He basically repeats the same speeches every day of his life. He didn't need to memorize answers for this debate. If Biden would just speak from his own mind and not use memorized talking points, he would sound more natural and not have to struggle to remember what to say as much. What looks like a bad memory could be because he is trying to recite a long series of mini-speeches instead of just talking naturally and spontaneously. It is easier to read from a tele-prompter or to repeat a speech over and over like Trump. I feel bad for Biden for relying on memorized answers instead of being himself.
