I was diagnosed in 2018 with Frontal temporal dementia. I found out early in my diagnoses that sugar was bad. I was a sugar addict. I've cut at least 90 percent of sugar from my diet and I think it's slowed down my progression. I believe this totally.

And who pushed this agenda in the early 1950s on humanity in the American food supply? The sugar industry knew their products would cause dental and massive health issues since the 1950s, but they worked with our government agencies (cigarette-ad-campaign-style) to ensure we wouldn’t know the true damage sugar could cause until we were all addicted.

My mom suffered for 40 years due to insulin resistance (tooth loss, severe depression, obesity, then diabetes II and dementia.) I am convinced none of it was hereditary. Her diet was toxic and she didn’t know it. She succumbed to her illness after exposure to COVID. I was a guardian for 25 years and people balked at me when I brought up her diet. A doctor finally said it recently, sugar is as addictive as cocaine, because it works on the same dopamine receptors. There is no accident that companies knew this and put it in everything. They should be ashamed. So sad. RIP MOM ❤

It isn't sugar. Type 2 Diabetes didn't exist until the intro of high fructose corn syrup in 1970. That's probably the culprit. Sugar has been around since the 15th century. The best sugar to use is called Evaporated Cane Juice which is nothing more than unrefined sugar. It has vastly different properties and that's the type people used in colonial America. Unrefined sugar retains its nutrients and has no chemical changes to its properties. It's the same way with unrefined salt vs refined salt. I had two bags of sugar in my cabinet and one day, I saw the unrefined evaporated cane juice bag moving around. I looked inside and at least 100 ants were inside actively feeding on it. The other bag, which was refined sugar, had only 2 ants in it and both were dead.

Yes ! I find the info about grains a bit confusing. The bible talks a lot about grains & flat bread so I can't see grains as being bad for us. However , the soil we grow grains in is defecienrt in nutrients and seeds are GM . Also how grains are processed etc all of these factors may make grains unsuitable for consumption today . There never used to be gluten intolerance and now everyone has it. So what has changed to make a biblical food into a poison ? That's how I see it. A change to make it harmful to us

I feel like people have been duped, tricked, and groomed into suffering from metabolic syndrome and sugar addiction, and it has gotten worse in the last few generations. Had I known breakfast cereals were such bad news, I would have never eaten them, or continued to eat them. Fruit juice is presented as so healthy, but now I know it is a sugar bomb. Had I known eating pasta day in and day out was a horrible idea, I would not have carried on that past college (basically all I could afford in college). I could say I haven't suffered from sugar addiction, but I LOVE bread. Begrudgingly I have gone to limiting myself to 1 slice at no more than 2 meals a day. Decades ago, I did realize and conclude drinking sugared soda all day might mimick being diabetic as your blood would be full of sugar all day, and I stopped that! I wish I had been blessed with this knowledge many decades ago. If I had kids nowadays, there definitely would not be any breakfast cereal or juice, and some other items in the house or on their plate.

Because doctors are talking to you like you would live for ever and never have desease if you are eating healthy food all the time, which is not the case obviously because human as a whole have emotions, social interaction (hopefully), so basically what you eat is only a tiny part of the whole thing. If doctors were so right, we would see them living a longer life compare to the rest of us. Studies have shown that people living happy and for a long period are those people surrounded by a lot of other people, and not alone. We are social being, with emotions that can create desease. Just like the father in the next house, he did lose his son, and he also died few months later without any health problem before. I think accepting fat people and telling them it's ok to be like that, because we don't want to be rude, is becoming the main problem, making the sugar argument and presence irrelevant.

As a Granny, my Grandchildren don't expect sweets when I visit. I have still got a sweet tooth and as a baby I was initially fed on sugar and water in the hospital.

I am a diabetic. I severely limit intake of sugars. My late wife died at age 43. The minister officiating at her funeral asked to see her personal Bible. When he opened The Book he saw all the candy bar wrappers my wife had been using as place markers: she was never without one at the ready. My wife once quipped, "I can't understand why I can't lose weight." When I told her that it might have something to do with all sugary sodas and candy bars she consumed, I saw steam coming out her ears and she didn't speak to me for three days.

Several of these sort of episodes caused me to stop all sugar, grains, and processed foods! I can't say I've always good days, but my health has improved and yes I've lost weight. I had to work on elimination of things I thought was good for me that really wasn't. It's a life change and there's still digestive issues. I eat much more healthy now. Now I want a doctor that looks younger, a lot younger. You are almost too old, but still in the 'good' range. I tried to convince him that spring water is heavenly, not like tap. He didn’t care, had to have his soda and nothing else. I tried to explain the need for probiotic rich foods, like fermented foods, that I love, but he was like a kid again. No vegetables, nothing fermented, nothing healthy, EWWW! I told him “probiotics help suppress candida yeast that release hormones that make you crave the sugar they need for food, and suppressing it will suppress cravings,” but I didn’t know what I was talking about. I even said “you’re German and you don’t like kraut?” He said “I’m not that German.” I should have tried harder. I love garlic ginger turmeric kraut, oh my lord it smells so heavenly, ambrosia! People in their old age still drink regular soda but not in excess including warren buffet for one can a day of coca cola. Water can be considered poisonous as some people do die every year due to excessive water consumption and the water lacking enough minerals (coca cola doesn't). Coca cola is just a form of tea: water, sugar, and herbs (it was invented by a doctor). I believe keeping the soda down to one can or less per day and avoid drinking water excessively as food does contain lots and lots of water.

As I went through my 40s I really started piling on the weight and ended up with really high blood pressure and always feeling tired and no energy along with a slew of pills to take for BP. I tried my best not to eat cheap crappy foods but the food I did eat was high fat and still a lot of sugar, in it not a great combination, and fizz drinks plus sweet snacks. I decided to get a private blood panel done a couple of Years ago and my metabolic markers were way out, all borderline high or low, basically I was overweight and was pre-diabetic, and this was knocking out my metabolic markers. I did manage to lose a bit of weight but it wasn't really enough, I was about 6 stone overweight at my worst and the weight just piled on again worse than ever. The classic sugar addiction. I got the blood work done again recently and it was much the same. I am living on borrowed time, if I don't get this in check it will catch up with me. I did do a soups and shakes diet about 6 years ago and that brought my weight down about 4 stone in a 3 or 4 months, and I'm doing that again, the difference this time is I need to switch on to healthy meal plans after the initial weight loss, which I never done the first time. Otherwise, looking at me you would never know I had such a problem but I'm trying to do something about it. I know there are many people just like me probably unaware of what is going on in their body and they won't know until it's too late. i know this will catch up with me if I don't address it. Doctors should do these blood panels as a a matter of course so people know what's going on, so they can do something about it.

Thank you for informing us on the sugar-addiction crisis in America. This needs to be taught in schools and reflected in our school menus. Also companies need to remove unnecessary sugar from our food. 👍
@winter_s_44

The problem is that the sugar they remove will be replaced with something unnatural and even worse for us. This is what they do now with “Low Fat” or “No Sugar” products. What unnatural and GMO ingredients do they add to replace fat and sugar? Harmful additives preservatives and sugar substitutes of all kinds that wreak havoc on our digestive and nervous systems. The answer is really just to recognize that most of the foods on shelves and fridges/freezers in your grocery store aren’t really food. It is up to you to stay away from those sections and stick around the produce section. Make your own sauces and stuff from whole foods and fresh seasonings and herbs.

Another one of you "this needs to be taught in school 🏫" folks. Well, surprise, it is, and so are many useful things, which is why education is stressed. Not to mention everyone in 1st world countries have access to the internet. Lesson here: just because something is taught doesn't mean it will be applied. As a teacher, I have such an issue with “This should be taught in schools.” Most children do not shop for groceries or prepare the meals they eat. That’s a parental responsibility. Most of the problems with young people today are not due to their lack of knowledge of nutrition, but to lazy, irresponsible parents who don’t care enough about their children’s health to educate themselves on healthy diets, and follow through to provide them. Stop trying to shift more parenting obligations onto teachers. We have our own families to raise.

For years I have been taking them to the clinic, hospital and it has taken such a huge toll on my personal life, it has limited me in personal activities and ruined romantic relationships... a huge chunk of this I'm understanding was the diet, sugary drinks, juices, little cakes, cereals and the "low-fat" (aka high sugar) diet craze. I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic last year and was certain I was destined for the same fate. I stumbled upon channels like Dr. Hansen's, but also Dr. Berg's and I started intermittent fasting, nothing huge just skipping breakfast and going through straight to lunch just on coffee, cutting sugar (sugar IS everywhere once you start looking) and bread. I've cut back on eating out which honestly has ended up saving me tons of money. But I have legitimately annoyed everyone around me and it has been the hardest, going counter current to a lifetime of habits and perceptions. I'm down 20 lbs and I look better than I've looked in the last 5 years and feel more energetic. Other family members have been following. I hope I can still get a shot at life. As a 5th generation organic pineapple farmer (I only have 1 acre now) I will correct one thing:. Fresh pineapple in a mere blender is the same as whole fruit pineapple metabolically. The problematic kind of juice is when you discard the fiber or pulp. God made fruits with all the parts. I even eat the pineapple cores, they weren't meant to be cored out. Each of my family members eats a pineapple per day when we harvest. Amazing bromelain enzyme, fresh juice, flesh, and fiber have tremendous health benefits! @Doctor Mike Hansen. Doesn't matter whether if it is blended ina shake or eaten plain, same health benefits as long as you don't discard parts. The pineapples in the supermarket are sprayed with lots and lots of toxic chemicals unnecessarily and I would not touch them. Sugar is even more toxic now because it is HFCS and full of mercury, or genetically modified sugar beets sprayed with weed killer (the white crystals people buy in a bag labeled sugar is sugar beets), and even the sugar cane and stevia (unless organic) are sprayed with weed killer as a dessicant in the fields. A dose of chemical poison with each spoonful. That's contributed to the rapid acceleration of human and animal disease.

When I first heard about the idea of regulating sugar like a drug, I thought it was ridiculous government overreach. After listening to this and many other similar stories, I 100% support it. If enough people are provided with the ability to make a poor choice, it doesn’t just affect them, rather it affects all of us. It’s not only sugar that should be regulated, it’s highly glycemic processed food like enriched wheat and white rice too. The diabetes and obesity epidemics are also compromising national security. I say the best way to regulate sugar is through taxes. It’s quite amazing this is not a national issue but it needs to be.

Try zero carb/carnivore. I started doing that two years ago and have been craving free since!! I’m so relieved that that sugar monkey is off my back. I’ve also had health issues clear up and am in much better heath.

I know a PA and he says that being fat, eating tons of sugar, is worse for people than smoking. He literally says that he would rather have a patient that smokes over a patient that eats tons of sugar.

@@RandomDudeOne that person is eating a ton of food. Even eating a lot of fat, enough to make me super big, would be disgusting. Like drinking cups of olive oil or something. Anyone would be grossed out by that I think. Most people get fat because there's tons of added sugar to their food. Don't get me wrong, there's tons of added fat too but it's more obviously gross and bad than added sugar.

@@RandomDudeOne Look into going keto/carnivore. You won't be fat within a year but you have to deal with the skin issues and might have to have reduction surgery. I'd say you probably eat more sugar than you realize unless you eat nothing from a box or packaged foods. Here is the biggest driver of obesity: Vegetable/seed oils. In a study from the '60's that was hidden and not published until found by a phd graduate candidate about 10 years ago= They had 4 groups of rats. The first group was fed polyunsaturated fat( corn oil/soy/canola) at 25% of the calories. Control rats were fed a commercial rat chow.2nd group were fed 25% high fructose sugar and the last group were fed dried beef with 25% beef fat. They were fed these diets until death. The worst performing group were the veg oil group with the last one dying at 500 days. The next worst group were the high fructose all dead by 700 days. The control group were all dead by 800 days. The best group were the dried beef/tallow group at over 1000 days. The veg oil group were twice as fat as the beef group and here's a message for humanity"ALL THE GROUPS EXCEPT THE BEEF OFFSPRINGS WERE DEAD BEFORE THE 2 GENERATION COULD REPRODUCE.

I did a cold turkey stop away from sugar addiction and had cravings for weeks. Then suddenly a bunch of pictures blew off my mind and the cravings were gone. The pictures were memories of past events when I was tired, and this tiredness was suppressed by a sugar rush. And in basic psychology, anything suppressed isn't gone, just hidden, and can still have a negative effect on you. Sugar, like any drug, can prevent you from properly processing mental/emotional stuff, even if it is just feeling tired.

I'm 75 years old, have had type 2 Diabetes for 35 years, but I have maintained my A1C at 5.5 for by cutting all cane sugar, and items the body treats as sugar such as candy, white flour, white potatoes, grains (except for chick pea hummus), no bread, no soft drinks or fruit juices and very few prepared foods. My diet is mostly considered "Mediterranean" with lots of fresh veggies, and broccoli, cabbage and tomato. I use only extra virgin olive oil and avocado oil. Almost every day I have 1 hard cooked egg, green and black olives, raw pecans and walnuts, guacamole, hummus, dill pickle, an orange, small apple or avocado and occasionally a small banana. I have half a Quest Protein Bar as well at breakfast. I eat small amounts of chicken but rarely beef or pork, and some steamed shrimp or fish. My only sweetener is Agave, 4 drops a day in my 2 cups of coffee with real cream. As an added bonus I've lost about 35 lbs over 1yr without even trying. Over the years of trial and error, this seems to be the diet that treats my body the best.

I blend broccoli (or whatever cruciferous veggie's on hand), blueberries, whole lemons with skim milk. I think juicer folks may be better off blending to get all the fibre to offset the sugars. It's thicker but add some water, it goes down easily.

My mother passed in December of 2022 from Alzheimer's. She was not a "dessert person" and only when she became mentally ill did she start to eat sweet junk, because my father now had a "Free pass" to buy donuts, corn muffins, ice cream...and feed it to her. They had both been told in the last decade that they were pre-diabetic. I firmly believe that my mom's gut health was NEVER good, even when she was a baby and child and young adult. My grandmother said she couldn't nurse her because she vomited it up. This was in the 1930s. She was lactose intolerant, and as an adult had her gall bladder removed, and would have to move her bowels within a half hour of eating all of her life. What people don't realize is that refined carbs like pasta, bread and the like as well as the sugar in alcoholic beverages ALL spike the blood sugar, and ALL disrupt the gut flora. My dear mother was of Italian descent and lived on pasta, wine, bread...she did like green vegetables and salads but NOTHING stayed in her body long enough to get absorbed properly. Gut health is SO important for BRAIN health, and sugar is poison to a gut. She was never obese, but the sugar and alcohol took its toll on her brain..I'm on a quest to not repeat that pattern.Remember too that diet soda (aspartame) will MAKE a person crave carbs. Good for the diet soda industry; KEEP THEM FAT, THEY'LL KEEP BUYING DIET SODA!

Organic cane sugar is NOT the problem. High Fructose Corn Syrup is the problem. It's in everything now. It's chemical crack called "sugar" but it is NOT SUGAR!! IT IS POISON MADE IN A LAB AND IT HAS MERCURY IN IT! I call it "Franken Sugar"...I wish people would learn the truth and stop blaming "sugar"....nobody was fat in the 1950s- early 80s and they ate CANE SUGAR all the time! When these evil monsters replaced it with HFCS is when all the obesity began to sky rocket. Vanderbilt University did a study using two groups of rats. The first group was fed a normal diet with cane sugar water. The other group was fed the same diet with HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP water. The first group maintained their same weight throughout the study. The second group that got the "franken sugar" water developed OBESITY AND DIABETES! The reason people could eat bread and sugar in the 40s through early 80s was because it was NATURAL CANE SUGAR, not the chemical crack they use in everything today known as High Fructose Corn Syrup (HCFS). In addition, the bread back then was healthy NON GENETICALLY MODIFIED GRAINS, NOT SATURATED IN MONSANTOS ROUND UP and they added healthy, metabolism boosting IODINE to the bread back then as well. Today, these evil bastards who are pawns of satan add BROMINE instead of iodine to the mass produced bread products. This "bromine" is the main component in TERMITE POISON!!! This is why everyone is FAT because our bodies store the POISONS IN THE FAT TO PROTECT THE ORGANS!! THIS IS ALL DONE WITH MALICE

You are absolutely right! I know all this, but you explain it very clearly. I go away from sugar ! Also from alcohol , bread & pasta. Now I am an avid reader of the information about this or that in the products . Essentially we have to go away also to any processed food, that almost all, have added sugars. An also I have learned to stay away from “vegetable oils” that almost all processed food have. Thank you
