I did a poll which Cells at Work! You wanted me to look at next, and so here is CODE BLACK! This week I'll be doing the first episode of Cells at Work season 2, can't wait. Also not wanting to start this new season with a rant but the copyright with these videos is an issue. There is a chance I may have to modify this so I'd recommend watching this early... last week I had one of my Cells at Work videos from over a year ago get claimed. It is frustrating as I think these are fair use AND only make the series more popular, but they keep getting claimed and if I challenge the claim you get a strike and lose the video (3 strikes and you lose your whole channel). So I just have to let them take the money. I also find this strange as Cells at Work publishers allow you to use this content in educational settings. Anyhow if you want to support the channel you can with the merch line to make things more sustainable; I'm not someone who wants to do sponsored content for products or services (you don't need them, so why would I promote them?!). So have a browse, and if you fancy it then treat yourself: teespring.com/stores/dr-hopes-sick-notes Stay safe everyone and see you soon. X

I would think that cells have this letter and number designation simply to show when they were “born” So, from A1-Z9999, then AA1-ZZ9999 etc, etc. Don’t even know if that’s why the author did that

The copyright stuff is so sad... Some anime reactors kinda deserve them (as they're pretty much showing the entire episode) but who in their right mind could say that these videos aren't informative and fair use and all that? Really hope youtube get its shit together at some point when it comes to that. Some people have been copyright claimed for singing along with a show's opening song (without actually having it on the video). Hope they give you some slack, these videos are clearly fair use, and it'd be a shame to lose them!

The "training video" is also drawn in a style more in line with 90s anime, so it's literally like those old videos you find in school or work training which always seem to have been made in the 90s on video tape and are still used today because they're too lazy/underfunded to replace them. Same for the buildings to be honest. Everything looks a lot "older" in style compared to the regular Cells at Work. 90s style block houses for the cells, a lot less modern and more industrial looking lungs, stomach and veins and so on. I guess our "body" this time is quite a bit older than the one in the regular series?

It's not only a critique to those who have bad habits. It's a critique to the black companies: companies that treat their workers terribly. As we can see, there is a toxic environment in this body. Probably, the owner of this body works in a black company too, and those bad habits are like a way to relieve the stress, even though it's for a limited amount of time. So, it not only criticizes the bad habits, but also what caused these bad habits. Brilliant!

While 11 means "Good", so 1146 is Good White(Actually confirmed by official comic guide book) and 1196 is Good Black. The Japanese has a lot of puns with numbers, and Cells at work plays with that somehow. For example, 4989(Fellow white blood cell) puns Struggling. I know this because this is actually pretty commonly used. Too bad they take it for granted that others can understand it so no one explains it.

I remember these cells from histopathology class back at the university. They are slightly more interesting to look at than brain tissue in a microscope. But I can see what they were going for since they also make a living turning all the nastiest chemicals we are exposed to into... Hopefully less nasty chemicals. I guess that's kind of kinky for a cell?

Cells at Work should definately be shown in schools (and other places of education), not only would it teach children in a fun way but Code Black will also show the lessons of not looking after your body, and likely be noticed more than the more factual information that we get given to us.

Also, if you notice in the first anime, whenever a rbc is carrying oxygen, their jacket is more on the lighter side, while when they are carrying carbon dioxide, their jacket is flipped to a darker shade of red. However in this anime, the colour contrast with the jacket is way less noticeable, which might mean that the person might be having problems breathing? Maybe it might due to smoking too.

I love how much scarier the bacteria looks! In Cells at Work they were still evil looking, but usually they weren't much bigger than the cells and appeared like normal humans with weird features, like what'd you'd expect with a somewhat comedic but evil cartoon villain. But in Cells at Work Black? Holy crap, they're straight up monsters. They tower over the cells, slightly hunched forward with soulless eyes, and show just how much more harmful they can be to this body.

This anime also shows one of the major cultural problems that Japan faces. A combination of cultural values such as not causing trouble for others, social obligations to employers, and the drive for financial success, leads to people neglecting their physical and mental health in favor of raising their status in the company. This leads to a problem known as "karoshi" - death by overwork. This is normally the explanation for relatively young employees in a corporate environment dying of cardiac failure and other health problems that would normally be expected from older individuals. It's also more common in companies that we Westerners would dub "toxic workplaces", where employees are exploited and not given proper rights and opportunities to relieve stress, eat properly, or maintain a proper sleep schedule.

So just a potential thing: "Black" in the title could be a reference to triage tag colour codes, since apparently in the METTAG system (a variation of which is used in Japan), black tags are assigned to patients who are dead/have no chance of survival. And since as opposed to the main series which is still going, Black is apparently set to end in Vol 8. Besides that another meaning is apparently Black company in terms where they overwork their employees and underpay them, and when looking at alot of the chapter tittles some of them deal with depression, overwork, lack of sleep etc. That and apparently the cells in the body also mimic/point out this issue.
