@tinntinnamp

Well, not everyone is an expert on all shows, and his team probably picks from popular items. They can't know every single item from every show to know to choose the right one. So it's not a fact they didn't choose it, because it may have not been an option to them to choose. It shouldn't be disappointing, you could simply recommend them to work that episode/scene into a future episode!

When I was 12 I had a REALLY strong fever. For days, my temperature wouldn't go down and I wasn't even conscious most of the time. So my dad gave me a really cold shower (winter, night, living by the ocean) and I screamed because it felt like I was being stabbed all over my body. After the shower my head felt like it was a boiling volcano, almost 2 hours after that I lost consciousness completely, the shock put me in a coma for 4 days. So yeah, don't do what my dad did lol😂

My favorite part of that Drake and Josh episode was when one of the parents (can't remember if it was the mom or dad) asked the doctor about an update on the surgery. The doctor looked at her charts and said "I'm sorry. He's passed", and the parent freaked out. The doctor checked the charts again and realized their mistake and gave them the correct update from the correct file 😂

I'm glad Dr. Mike said anyone who sends their sick kids to school are doing the wrong thing because of something that happened to me when I was in the 3rd grade. I woke up that morning feeling feverish and told my mom, who insisted I had nothing wrong with me even though she didn't check and I did NOT have the habit of pretending to be sick to avoid school, so she sent me off. My teacher was staring at me and finally said, "Hey, you don't look well," and I told her "I told my mom I felt like I had a fever," to which she replied, "Yeah, I think you need to go to the nurse's office." I did, and it turns out I did have a fever (I don't remember what it was, but it wasn't dangerous), so I was taken home by a friend of my mom's (Mom couldn't drive at the time) and my mom ended up taking care of three sick kids that day; myself, my older brother, and my neighbor friend whom my mom had babysat since he was small. Needless to say, she never made that mistake again.

I had pneumonia when I was about 20 years old, and it was probably the most sick I’ve ever been. I just felt miserable and I couldn’t stop coughing. After about a week, my voice was completely gone (which had never happened before or since), and then I found out that I had actually fractured one of my ribs from coughing so hard. 9:20 Why don't schools just live stream the class for kids who aren't there? Already have all the Zoom Equipment... Teacher would just have to turn her head and see the chat if the kids at home had a question. As far as the other kids... the friends are already exposed, no reason to expose the rest of the class. It would also be the kryptonite for kids who were barely sick, no longer contagious, but wanted to milk one extra day of rest & video games out of the sickness.

Through middle school and then into high school, my brother and I seemed to get Strep' easily half a dozen times a year... Then we got to the Doc's office for a swab test, only they were OUT OF STOCK on the 15 minute versions... SO we settled for the 24 hour test, and got results the next day that we had Staph' infections... AND then the first round of antibiotics didn't help... and then the second... and the third... and tetracycline didn't make a dent!!! It turned out to be MRSA, back in the early 90's... and it was something our Doc' hadn't seen in his 30+ years of practice. They didn't even know Staph could be so resistant... Finally, something called "Sulfa-drugs" were prescribed at about 10 TIMES the cost of otherwise ordinary antibiotics, and at the time, we were told "These are THE baddest antibiotics in existence. If this doesn't work, we don't know what the hell to do." It was two weeks of crippling diarrhea as they WIPED OUT our gut bacteria on top of the staph'... BUT finally, we got clean swabs from the office, and apparently there was a fair number of medically resistant Staph' infections through the county... Keep in mind, we hadn't even HEARD of medically resistant bacteria, because it was entirely theoretical at the time... It would be months before we were relatively normal again, BUT I've never gotten strep again after that... In fact, I haven't had much of an infection at all since then... I've been food poisoned, but that's a different tale altogether... ;o)

9:13 @doctormike PLEASE tell this to schools & school districts that use "attendance rewarding" policies to penalize students that miss "too many days" (including excused absences for illness)! Our local high school excludes students from attending functions like dances if they have more than a certain # of absences for the year, including excused, & rewards students with fewer absences with being exempt from taking course finals. As a parent of 2 kids in a school district that is short on teachers at all grade levels & illnesses running rampant weekly, it is infuriating that my child will be penalized for not coming to school ill.

I don't know about other kids, but my siblings and I went to school while sick unless we were actively vomiting or had a high fever, because if we didn't, our mom would have to miss work to take care of us. The one thing Mike slightly missed when talking about there being "no withdrawal symptoms from soda" was caffeine addiction, which *definitely* exists and for me personally, can give nauseating migraines when withdrawal hits which is why I cut caffeine out of my life completely.

Hey Dr. Mike. Got a story for you. When I was little(early 80s) I suffered with horrible infections that landed me in the hospital several times. One time in particular, my fever was so high the doctors did, in fact, put me in an ice bath to lower my dangerously high temp. Not soon after the Pediatric ENT took one look at my tonsils and booked me for surgery the next day. He bumped a patient it was so dire. After the tonsillectomy, I can say that I have rarely been sick since. The 80s! What a time to be alive.

The pulsating tonsils reminded me of when my tonsils gave me issues, and sometimes felt like they were "throbbing" I had "chronic adenotonsillitis" where I had tonsil stones, which occurred for about 5 years until I was able to get my tonsils and adenoids removed. Every doctor I went to told me "It's perfectly normal".... I don't think it's normal to be awoken 2-3 times a night with insufficient breathing and gaging out tonsil stones.

I guess they were just doing their best with what they knew. But now medical experts know that cold water can cause shivering, which can actually raise the body’s temperature. Parents and future parents: If you ever need to bring your child’s fever down, check with the pediatrician and if they tell you it’s okay and if your child doesn’t have any allergies, give them some children’s Tylenol or ibuprofen.

In times past, with considerably more primitive medical technology than we have today, high fevers (103F+) were particularly distressing, and considered dangerous. Doctors at some point (at least through the 60's and 70's in many places) would even recommend ice-water baths to cool the patient, AND it was to avoid brain damage, since the fever WAS recognized as evidence that the immune system was working... Growing up through the 80's and 90's, myself, it was explained that you really only needed to avoid a fever getting higher than 105F to avoid brain damage, and once you're even in that territory, it can be very difficult to control on Tylenol or Ibuprofen alone. Don't forget, they can both get toxic in high enough doses... AND during the 90's we connected Rye's Syndrome with treating fevers from the flu with aspirin, which was a tad more effective than Tylenol on many cases... SO ice-baths were a thing even into recent history... I'm not sure what fancy ideas are in the mainstream of current thinking, but by the time you get to 103 or 104F you should DEFINITELY be on the way to a Doc' no matter what else you've tried... Just be sure to list the home treatment and OTC products, so you can clearly communicate everything to the Doc's when you get there. They don't care if you tried some dubious home remedy that they're sure won't work... They just want to know what it was or involved so they don't accidentally poison you to death on a conflicting drug or chemical. ;o)

Now I just cringe over it, not only because I know what the final outcome of that episode is, but also because I know the actors were uncomfortable with those scenes.
