The line right after it is really clever, too. "Only if the answer is 'yes'. If it's 'no', it's a symptom." Patients sometimes get offended from questions about drug usage, diet and exercise habits, and sexual activity, but those are things that doctors need to know sometimes.

He does look happy. U can see how his character seems more confident in being around others have grown. In the beginning his character was way more timid and shy outside of doing something medically. He couldn’t form bonds in the beginning but now u can see where that has changed. Back then I don’t think any of us could’ve predicted him being able to have a relationship physically, mentally or emotionally with someone but now look at him the character has truly grown. The actor and director is doing a great job in showing us this character development and portraying this character.

I have autism and i must say it Really depends on how Self Aware he is or will end up being, I'm very self aware and when I have conversations with people who don't know me, I know to be more animated and speak with more inflection and to put things in a way that sounds charismatic and affable, even though I wouldn't emote like that if I were genuine. Most of the other autistic people I know my age, are incapable of this, some of them I'm afraid they don't even know what they really look like visually, let alone how they come off emotionally to everyone else. If they seem to have problems with their awareness I wouldn't suggest you approach it like "copying the people around you" whuch implies he expresses himself wrong, because it's more about learning to FINALLY express yourself, we're kind of trapped in our own heads and have alot to say, we just don't know how to say it or get people to understand, mimicking social cues should be a way to easily get across our feelings, not "blend in"

The fact that you said Nephrotic Syndrome blew my mind. When my brother was around 4, he started swelling up badly. We went from Dr. to Dr. and nobody could figure this out. It took going to Vanderbilt on Sep, 11, 2001 (that is where I was that day) before he was actually diagnosed. For you to casually mention it is mind blowing to me. Makes me like watching you even more.

I just found your videos the other day... and I am hooked. You're so down to earth, and tell it like it is. I'm old enough to be your mother... but, I am in love.... You're great !!!

I was incredibly lucky and we had a nurse come to my highschool who did basic Dr stuff for us like physicals and pap smears and she had several drawers full of different brands of birth control for the girls, Dr Haley, awesome effing lady! It was an alternative school, sadly it's now an off ramp.

Thanks doc! It beats my understanding between autism and Asperger's syndrome because I understand that in autism, there's impairment in cognitive functioning and I wonder how Dr Shawn's intelligence is so amazing.
