@@Hatman39 People seem to discount you when you're young, even when you know best. My mum is epileptic and gets fairly frequent seizures so I've known how to deal with it since I was like six. I was out with her one day in Tesco, I must have been 9 or 10, and she had a seizure and I did what I usually do: blanket under her head, keep everyone back, keep an eye on my watch. And this old guy told me to put something in her mouth. I told him no, you NEVER put something in someone mouth when they're having a seizure. He ignored me and stepped forward and shoved his wallet in her mouth, even after me asking him to stay away from my mum. Now his wallet had metal corners which cut her mouth, which made the situation way more dangerous. I took it out and flung it away, so he lost his rag with me but luckily a paramedic came in for his lunch and took my side. After she came to she was totally fine. We left the shopping and went home.

So for me with bloody noses, If there’s a ton of blood coming out rly quick, I use the spray you talked about earlier. But if it is mediocre or below, I usually just rip part of a tissue off, make it in the shape of like an oval, and just stick it up my nostril a bit. When I stick it up there, is that bad to do? Because it seems to work.
@haileyhawkins17452 жыл бұрын
The large majority of nose bleeds occur at the front end of your nose. Like Dr. Mike said, apply pressure to the bridge of your nose to cut off the blood supply to those pesky bleeding blood vessels and tilt your head forward! If you get constant nose bleeds with lots of blood, you should make an appointment with your ENT (ear nose and throat) doctor to see about the possibility of cauterizing those blood vessels, or another recommended option from your doctor! I hope this helps!

I get nosebleeds a lot. Mainly depends on the humidity of the room I'm in. Other reasons include being outside in extreme cold And then entering into a relatively warm room. (Temperature is a huge factor on why I get them) As a kid my nosebleed problem was pretty much effecting my life to the point my mother took me to the hospital once because a nosebleed of mine lasted an hour long. (Seeing blood countless times as a child scared me which in return made the nosebleeds longer as the blood in my nose couldn't clot fast enough when I was literally in tears that there was blood everywhere) A lot of nosebleeds of mine lasted an hour. The docter back then said this kind of problem would decrease as I got older. I still get tons of nosebleeds weekly. Although I know how to deal with them now so they only last 5-15 minutes. (Depends in how bad it is) Got one one yesterday while I was eating breakfast. I was expecting to get one as my last one was 3 weeks ago. In the time periods where I got 1 hour nosebleeds, I did swallow countless of blood back in the day. The blood clotted up in my esophagus and then I would spit the clotted blood out. Gross, but back then I took it as a sign that it meant the nosebleed was almost over. (When that happened the nosebleed stopped shortly after) Didn't have constipation issues from swallowing the blood later though. And I have experience with this as I've at least swallowed a litre of blood at this point overtime. Weird. I guess my body got used to it.

And last but not least: I actually enjoyed the movie. Was everything 100% correct? No. It rarely is with movies. But I do appreciate that they are shining a light on such a deadly disease that so few people know about! Ive been getting grey hair since i was 16, and now at 37, im a salt and pepper head, but i hide it with dye cuz im too young for grey. Long hugs do help fend off depression each day. So weighted blankets does help with mental health.

Apart from the nose spray tip that I've used for years, but the spray should be applied when you have cleared the nose.. I imagine that the spray needs to reach the skin and won't be as effective trapped in the snot or blood filing the nose when the nose isn't cleared beforehand.. but another tip I've used is feel your temperature of your neck (back side not the throat side), I tend to bleed when I am stressed and that causes me to be extra hot and through buting ice on my neck I can cool down the whole flow towards my head and that is helping me to stop the bleeding faster combined with the spray.. or at least so I imagine it to be the reason.. so much of my childhood I bleed nose bleed, so after some years of perfecting the method this have become my standard procedure to fight it after trying different methods and approaches over the years..

I was prone to getting lots of bloody noses as a kid due to my large capillaries, so I speak from experience with this video and not tilting your head back. This one kid in 3rd grade got one and my teacher told the kid to put their head back and I had to step in and correct them. In all, just put your head down, pinch a bit higher up on your nose than your nostrils, and get the blood clots out when you can 👍👍👍

Hi Dr. Mike! My finals are starting in a couple of days, can you please talk about exam stress and how to deal with anxiety before exams? I get really nervous no matter how much I studied.
@atriyakoller1365 жыл бұрын
As someone who has finished school and had state exams, as well as many exams in my university life (I have a master's in linguistics now), I can give you a piece of advice. SLEEP before EVERY exam. Get a good night's sleep. Forget all your problems and never try to squeeze all the information into the day before the exam. An hour before you go to bed, shut down all your gadjets, dim the lights and listen to some music/sing a song/read a book (not in bad lighting though). And a minimum of 8 hours of sleep before an exam. When I had my state exams in maths, there was this one girl in my class, who was much, much better at it, than I was. But she got so nervous that she started waiting for the leakes photos of the tasks, and as I live in Russia and we have 10 different time zones throughout the country, people in Vladivostok had the exam about 8 hours before people in my hometown. Naturally, she barely had any sleep, since the ministry of education and its associates did look through the internet for the leaks and deleted them quickly. So, she had a score of 56, while I had 68, out of 100. So, my advice to anyone who's getting ready for exams is to sleep the night before the exam. As much as possible.
@imanimaldonado16265 жыл бұрын

I can tell you I’ve had all the bad side effects of some birth control options such as blurred vision, dizziness, nausea, having my period for three months straight etc. not fun... the birth control options are the pill, the patch, the shot, the iud and the arm implant... my gyn told me that she doesn’t recommend the patch or the shot because both are somewhat non effective and the shot you can gain so much weight it’s like you blow up like a tick... I’ve tried the two different types of birth control pills and the Nexplanon birth control arm implant both a fail I’m now trying the iud and so far almost no side effects just the little amount of weight gain thank the lord... I have epilepsy and I’m trying the birth control options to see if it could help level my hormones so I can better control my seizures... and this is my last hope... I’m hoping all continues to go well... each body is different and not everyone will encounter the same side effects as me or may not have the side effects at all therefore it works for some people with others not so much it all depends on how your body reacts to them... I’m not a doctor I’m only a second year college student choosing liberal arts as a major so I can’t really go that deep in detail about it but I have done my research about all of it and talked to my doctor about all the options and what she recommended as well as asking her opinion about all of them...

In my experience, leaning forward during a nosebleed would just make the blood flow nonstop. Of course, leaning back doesn't really help either because when I did that, I just ended up choking and spitting mouthfuls and mouthfuls of blood everywhere. The only thing I found that actually works is cotton balls. We discovered it on accident when my extended family had flown in for my dad's funeral and my grandpa offered up a cotton ball when nothing else seemed to work and my mom was in full panic mode. The cotton fibers got into the wound and slowed the bleeding enough for clots to form. We left the cotton in overnight and the following day, we loosened it with warm water and gradually worked it out of the nostril, being very careful to not agitate the source of the bleed. A year or two later, when these bleeds became a more regular occurrence, my mom eventually took me to get it cauterized. Until then, nothing worked better than a good old cotton ball.

To be fair Dr Mike surname sounds like weird polish surname converted to russian and it basically a name of polish capital Warszawa (Warsaw) so it's way more easier in Australia cause in Poland everybody will think that this surname is really a bad made up surname for spyies cause is literally mean Warsaw Mike in polish (city name +ski) so we got Michał (that is Mike in polish) Warszawski and there is not such surnames in Poland where you got city name in it. And it's actually quite funny. So Dr.Mike come to Warsaw anytime cause everybody will know you cant be serious spy with that surname :D Mikhail Moshkovski suits a litte better i guess, but nvw in Us or Australia it won't make much difference cause both will be hard to spell. Fun fact when you google Michał Warszawski you got polish articles of the sexier doctor with pic of dr Mike :D And last but not least dear Dr. Mike dont worry cause my surname Bugajski is name of small rural settlement Bugaj (from medieval or XVII century) + ski so that is quite common in Poland, but not city names :P And i bet that many of people especially in Warsaw will say you got lovely surname. 3 things, I'm on the spectrum and my weighted blanket is amazing. It helps me sleep better, I actually feel rested the next morning. I don't wake up constantly. If I'm anxious at all I curl up under it and it's like a hug and my worries melt away. So I 100% believe they work for people who need them. On the whole man-flu thing, I think women in general have a higher tolerance for pain and discomfort than men. From things like societal pressure and expectations to act certain ways, but also physical things. Getting a period every month (some of which can be extremely painful) puts other aches and illnesses into a different perspective that most guys just don't have. And third, your shirts are great, keep on wearing what makes you happy and healthy! :)
@swinglow65805 жыл бұрын
Men and woman can have differing levels of pain tolerance. Your sexual orientation doesn't effect that, I cringe at the thought of paper cuts (them fuckers hurt) but when my appendix almost burst, it hardly bothered me other than the first hour. After the surgery I only took Tylenol (they recommend me to take the Vicodin they gave me). I've seen woman cry at the slightest touch and also watched some smash their fingers and hardly blinked. I do believe weighted blankets work as well, my gf who suffers from horrid anxiety uses them during her attacks in order to calm down. Hell some times I'll just throw it on cause man does it feel good 😂

I've heard that putting pressure on the bottom half of your body can switch your nervous system from the sympathetic to the parasympathetic nervous system, thus calming your mind. This is also why people use deep pressure therapy with service animals. When I heard this I found it very interesting, so I thought i'd share. I'm on the spectrum aswell :)

I had a problem with something and I went to several doctors (It was the first few times I was going to the doctor alone). I felt embarrassed about the problem I had with the first few, then I met a male doctor who didn't react at all. He was checking up on me at the same time as making normal conversation. I appreciated how it wasn't just silent, I didn't know the silence when getting treated would be making me uncomfortable. Well since that day he's the one I always go to. He moved to another clinic but it's far so I haven't seen my doctor in years. I know it's bad, you always say how important it is
