Dr. Mike respond to this to make my life better. I've been legally blind since birth. I have some vision, can see about 2 ft in front of me, and am able to read text at about 2 inches from my eyes. There is no cure. No surgery can improve it. No glasses or contacts help. Wether it's teachers, friends, or random people, almost no one has been able to grasp that blindness, just like deafness, is a spectrum. Legal blindness means you are far enough on that spectrum that it is serious. I've spent 28 years blind and have gotten used to getting around with what little vision I have. I navigate and walk around fairly well, rarely use a cane, and most people never notice I'm blind at all. At the same time I'm completely unable to perform some basic tasks and it shocks people often resulting in confusion, lack of faith in my work, or pure disbelief. If we taught about disabilities in school so many issues and awkward interactions I and many others experience regularly would be prevented. Please help your viewers better understand blindness.

RE: the “do you wax your hands” comment, I found that working in healthcare, constantly putting gloves on and taking them off frequently catches the hair on the back of my hands in the bead of the glove, basically epilating my hand.
@rhov-anion
@rhov-anion 2 жыл бұрын
There's also dipping your hands in paraffin wax, which my PTs almost all do. It's to help the joints. They have to do a lot of massages, so the wax dip soothes out inflammation. I also have a friend with very hairy hands who waxes (epilating, not just dipping) to appear that much better for her patients.

Question for Doctor Mike: Why do we people randomly get migraines when we are not sick?
@THE_SOSC
@THE_SOSC 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not a doctor but im trying to become a good caregiver and I recall you can be stressed and that can cause migraines or headaches. A minor concussion, high blood pressure, being up for too long, staring at lights especially screens so you might consider getting a night time filter, specific types of light bulbs, medication drugs like tylenol or advil, energy drinks. You could also be low on vitamins and minerals in your body causing blood pressure to spike.

@@THE_SOSC the migraines come randomly and it was not from drinking alcohol nor being stressed. It might be the certain medications that cause it.
@THE_SOSC
@THE_SOSC 2 жыл бұрын
@@CoolGuy-ux5wx I don't know about emotions themselves to be the cause I'm pretty sure its supposed to mean whatever you do when you're stressed can cause headaches. Also to add to that drinking enough alcohol could lead to a hangover which can cause headaches but not the alcohol itself unless maybe and don't quote me but maybe it can add to the pain of a headache if you're bleeding and you use alcohol to sterilize a wound on your head, bit of a long shot but also maybe because it can be an open wound and the application might cause clotting but that's not my expertise YET

@@THE_SOSC I don’t have a bleeding in my head because ever since I was really little I always had seizures but that’s part of the condition I have and luckily those are gone because I still take medication that prevents me from getting it again and migraines are mild and can go away naturally just by drinking water and eating healthy. But now I don’t have any migraines which is good even though I do drink alcohol sometimes but not all the time.

The 'drinking water during a meal' is absolutely something you should do as long as you're making sure you're getting adequately satiated from the food. But I always will drink at least two tall glasses of water with any meal simply to assist my stomach in perceiving my stomach as full, because I can pretty easily put away a big plate of food if I want to. I also have IBS, painful heartburn and digestion issues caused by anxiety so honestly, adding any extra water at any time of the day is kind of necessary for me. I'll easily put away 10 or more tall glasses of water a day and still feel dehydrated.

I pick my nose, and because how much I did it, I eventually caused a deviated septum… so there’s a large hole in the middle inside of my nose. I literally picked the skin out.. so yeah be careful with picking, since I would get bad nosebleeds whenever I used to pick.

After my dog developed pancreatitis, my vet told me to keep him on a low fat diet. My dog loves carrots too, so that has been a great snack for him. I put baby carrots in the freezer and giving him a frozen baby carrot makes him think he is getting an even better treat.

I wear classed 89% of my day... I am near sighted so I take them off when I’m on my phone or doing desk work, because I can see 1000% when up close (why would i want to put a peace of plastic between me and the real world if I can see better without them up close?) but sometimes when I wake up from a sleep or I lookup from lots of desk work and I recognize that I can’t see clearly, I’ll automatically go push up my glasses on my nose 🤓 and sometimes it’ll take two “phantom presses” before i realize Im not wearing any.... btw i wear progressive bifocals (distance vision in the center of lens down to no prescription at the bottom so that i can use my phone and read my dashboard without taking my glasses off .....I think it comes from a positive feedback response of : my glasses have to be centered for me to see properly... can’t see? Touch bridge of nose, glasses are now centered, eyes can now see properly , brain is now happy with the response.... no glasses? Your brain still expects the same response .... DOCTOR MIKE! Follow up

@noranjo I'm definitely not a doctor but I have researched and thought a lot about the drinking water while eating thing. I think it makes sense to try and limit your RELIANCE on water to clear your mouth of food while eating. In this way you make sure your tongue and chewing (jaw) muscles are in proper working order by using them to get all the food stuck to your teeth and gums in every corner of your mouth. I noticed this was hard for me when I didn't drink water with meals. Using your tongue and chewing properly is the natural way to clear food and will be a healthier lifestyle in my opinion because it does not replace these muscles' function with using water and letting them get weak or misaligned from underuse. I say have water with meals but don't rely on it to wash food down if its not already chewed and ready to swallow.

Lucid dreaming is the ability to know your dreaming and control it. It's 100% real, I lucid dream about once a month. When my grandpa died, he was showing up in my dreams every night. So I trained myself, "If I see grandpa, I am dreaming." It worked! I lucid dreamed everyday for a few weeks. It's great! Unfortunately, I can only control my dreams for a little bit, before I wake up.

Lucid dreaming is 100% real and possible. You can train yourself to be able to lucid dream but it takes time and is hard for some. When you can get lucid it’s amazing. I'm a pretty good nose-blower (I'm often quite effective and I know to focus on one nostril at a time). But still, sometimes the only way to open up that airway to a comfortable state is to go in there. Especially if the air is dry and the things are just stuck in there. Of course, it's best if my nails are properly trimmed and hands are washed, but otherwise I just try to be careful if I go in as to not disturb anything. I've never caused a nosebleed. I don't think it's reasonable to expect people to stay uncomfortable while breathing just because picking your nose is 'bad'. Not being able to breathe properly is bad too. Not being able to get a good night's sleep because your own nose-whistling sounds are keeping you up is bad too.

In regards to the fever question, I only ever take any when the fever is high and may be dangerous if it lasts. But I just endure low fevers and try to, specifically, keep my head cool... getting my brain cooked doesn't sound appetizing

Well generally there's a lot of complicated brain stuff that regulates your blood flow - your arteries and veins can constrict or dialate to direct blood flow to parts of the body where it's most needed. When you're exercising, the blood moves faster and pumps more blood at a time, when you're nervous this can also be triggered. When you're warm, blood tends to move to the surface of the body to release heat, and when you're cold it moves in (less blood to the extremities) to preserve your core temperature. If you have an object resting against your body, it can make you more aware of the blood flow. I think people on periods have increased flow in the abdominal aorta.

LOL. Funny you said that about your dog being a "Vacuum Cleaner." My mom's BF calls my dachshund "Hoover" because he's the same. Sniffs around and finds the food. It is so cute, LOL. We also feed our dogs carrots as "treats." They love them and don't know they are a veggie. I took a Psych of Dreams course when getting my BA in Psych. It was a trip! I found out that it isn't as common as I thought to remember your dreams as much as I do. I have to often think about them when I first wake up, though, in order to stick with me. I also believe in the Mosaic Theory (I think that's what it was called). My dreams seem to be a random mix of memories and if I think about someone recently, they'll appear in my dreams.
