Doctor Strange does use spells from other disciplines such as black magic. One in particular is the Darkness of the Conduit which is considered black magic and rarely uses it. He performed this spell on Arioch and Shuma-Gorath.

Strange does not use black magic. He could if he wanted to, but he stays away from it. Strange deals with mostly other realities and The Multi-Verse. Although, he is extremely powerful and at times almost almighty.

I thought he mastered light magic, used dark magic from Dormammu, then only used dark magic on extreme and rare occasions once he found out Dormammu was evil. His magic derived mainly from The Vishanti, three mystical beings who are usually kind towards humans.

**SPOILER TO ANYONE WHO HASN'T SEEN THE MOVIE YET!** After Dr.Strange is victorious in the end of the movie, he returns a stone/relic used to control time to it's place. Wong calls it an Infinity Stone, confirming that Dr.Strange will be in the next Avengers movie and Thanos will be after that stone. This next part will confirm this even more. In the after credits scene, Dr.Strange is sitting down talking to Thor about helping him find Odin.
