@wwswhl773 indeed. The White and Black Guardians played very important roles in the eras of Four and Five. There are more of them, but we haven't met them on television unless the Toymaker is one of them, as spinoff media has implied. The Guardians of the Universe are likely the most powerful beings in the Whoniverse. They represent universal concepts like order, entropy, chaos, dreams and the like. They're essentially gods, but they have to work through intermediaries, as in the Key to Time saga.

Zed Cars not Zee Cars, it's a British police series that ran from the 1960s for two decades, and in early episodes features Brian Blessed, as one of the police car officers. It was set in a suburb of Liverpool and many well known actors starred as guest, just like The Bill, which was set in London. I'm old enough to know the theme tune, which is based on a Liverpudlian folk tune, which is now ear worming me. Peter Purves went on to a stalwart of Blue Peter and much more successful as a television presenter. Neil Patrick Harris is a member of The Magic Circle.

I find that the toymaker being associated with Asian stereotypes is a bit accidental. Yes celestial can be used as a way to offend Asians, but the clothes he wears were reused from Marco Polo because they didn’t have money to make a new one. Add to that the writing and gough’s performance never really makes it feel to how stereotypical Asian characters were done at the time. Could be wrong
@johnernest58439 ай бұрын
I felt the same way too, especially with the context of The Giggle episode. The Toymaker isn't some heinous troll like the Master, who would want to get under your skin for the fun of it. He's all about games--and all of his mannerisms, outfits, and behaviors are towards that goal. He's a force of nature that sees no good or evil--only winning or losing in a game. He could be dressed in chinese attire, speaking with a german accent, or even wearing some other outlandish costume, and he'd still be a terrifying force to encounter.

*If* they reference "The Nightmare Fair" or indicate the revelations therein are canon, The Toymaker is a lot scarier than he looks here. SPOILERS NEXT. According to "The Nightmare Fair", it appears that not only is The Toymaker a refugee from a now-destroyed alternative dimension, he's effectively immortal and indestructible because he's so completely at odds with how physics work in our dimension. Instead of getting closer to death as time goes on, he's getting further away from it. This isn't to say he's getting younger, but rather that he won't expire from any natural causes (whatever those might have been in his native timeline) the longer he's in ours. Worse, because of this, he has a control over our perceptions and responses to quantum reality that allows him to reshape things at a whim. Yet for all that, its implied there was nothing special or exceptional about The Toymaker's psyche compared to the rest of his race or ours. He's resorted to playing games within our universe as a way of keeping his sanity as he continued to live, and ultimately it didn't work. The consequence for all who have encountered him have been nightmarish. "The Nightmare Fair" ended with the Doctor trapping The Toymaker in a force bubble powered by The Toymaker's own mind, effectively leaving him imprisoned in there forever (or until the showrunners decided to bring him back). Here's hoping they at least imply this happened, as that would explain The Toymaker's apparently genocidal bent now.

@@TheZodiacz I know BG has his own 5th Doc Trilogy, but I was thinking more of things from old WHO brought back to new WHO. And you're right, Movellans were brought back ever so briefly, good call!

I just watched the third Toymaker episode today - be watching the final ep tomorrow - I’m really enjoying the old Toymaker serial. Weird they never brought him back until now. I really hope we delve into the backstory of the Doctor & the Toymaker in The Giggle!

@@HelFrostKara the missing episodes have been reconstructed as images, with the audio track, and sometimes subtitles where action takes place without speech. I’ve been watching those on Dailymotion where the episodes are missing from iPlayer

Will they tie the Toymaker with the Timeless Child? What if the Doctor is a member of the Toymaker's race, and the, now, Time Lords manipulated the Doctor's DNA. Just a thought.

Its Zed Cars not Zee cars! Why do British people deliberately use Americanisms ? When they know full well how it is properly pronounced!

9:30 is it a coincidence that in that part of the trailer The Doctor and The Toymaker are wearing the same outfit?

We know Toymaker isn't a Time Lord - his magic card was previewed yesterday as a rogue artificer
@SleepyHarryZzz10 ай бұрын
In the trailer he also refers to the meeting as "The Toy maker and the Time Lord", which would be strange phrasing if he himself was one
@timelordsalad10 ай бұрын
Okay sure but that doesn’t disprove the point made in the video that he was originally intended to be a member of The Doctor’s race
@AlexMTG_9 ай бұрын
@@timelordsalad I didn't say anything about intent, you could be right. The vid also suggested RTD could say Toymaker is a TL, that's what my comment directly addresses. WOTC worked closely with BBC, if BBC were going to release a detail like Toymaker being a TL they would've ensured WOTC didn't 1) preview it early 2) label it the wrong type

The first actor to play The Toymaker was Michael Gough, who also played Alfred in the 90's Batman movies. The Riddler loves puzzles and games, Alfred helps Batman solve them, Alfred is the Toymaker confirmed, so Batman and Doctor Who share a universe. Doctor Who is now part Disney, Superman was mentioned in the Eternals, Marvel and DC exist in a shared universe with Doctor Who is canon. Tl;dr we can look forward to a Doctor Who episode where The Doctor helps rescue Robin from the evil clutches of Dr Doom.
