All I could think the entire episode was, that I get the feeling that EVERYTHING is connected to the Doctor invoking a superstition at the edge of the universe

Space Babies felt like someone dared RTD to do a psuedo-remake of The Beast Below. And I don’t just say that cause Gatwa and Gibson have a very Smith/Gillan-esque chemistry.

It's so funny because this episode had a lot of references to previous works. Whether it's Sleep No More, End of the World, different vibes :D

I liked the quirkiness. For a first episode it was alright, there were some intriguing moments. It did seem alot of exposition just for for the new people watching.

The doctor mention of scene of the person who drop off Ruby as Memory of sort seem something like that is going to happen again. feel like series 5 mixed with series 1 vibes and like micron000 mention it feel like RTD verison of the impossible girl for Ruby.

I stayed up all night to watch these episodes (they released at 2am my time, watched 'till 4am, then an hour of Unleashed, and now winding down with some KZbin reviews before I had to bed haha), and let me tell you, I wasn't disappointed! Space Babies was okay, a bit of an odd choice of plot/monster for episode 1 imo, but I still enjoyed it overall. Ncuti and Millie's chemistry is amazing, and I liked all the "new companion" mandatory bits in this one, but I did feel like they were a bit crammed for one episode. I mean, they covered SO much in one trip - Time travel and paradoxes, the TARDIS mechanics (broken chameleon circuit, translation matrix etc), Gallifrey and it's destruction, the Doctor being "last of the time lords" and also a foundling, the two hearts thing, the rigging of Ruby's phone, the "giving the new companion a key to the TARDIS" scene... I feel like it was probably a bit too much exposition in one episode for new viewers, and yet, too much rehashing of the old for those who are already familiar with the show. Like you've said, it was a bit too reminiscent to the start of RTD 1 in this regard, though there, these aspects were at least spread across the entire first half of the season and set up as a sort of mystery, instead of spoon-fed to viewers in one episode which just made the extra-exposition glaringly obvious. More balance in this regard might have worked a bit better imo, especially given the fact that they seem to be angling for a Ruby-centric plot line reminiscent of "the impossible girl" arc this season. I just wish we've had more time to get to know Ruby as a person, and see her relationship with the Doctor build in a more gradual pace.. But maybe that's just me. (This is even more true imo, given that apparently after this episode, there was a 5-6 months time jump, as when the Doctor brings Ruby back to see her current time in episode 2, it's the middle of 2024, while Space Babies takes place during December 2023 for her.. So, we've basically missed out on most of their getting-to-know-you phase, which is a shame imo) Anyway, I very much enjoyed your reaction as always! And since I personally loved The Devil's Chord much more, I'm really looking forward to seeing your reaction to it as well :)

In regards to the Doctor saying he is the last of the Time Lords, and you replying about Rassilon. You’re forgetting about the Master destroying Gallifrey and the ‘cyber lords’??? When I watched i immediately went to thinking of the great time war, but he is referencing Jodie’s episode.
@LiamCatterson6 ай бұрын
No I knew what that was all about given that was the recent destruction of Gallifrey but Rassilon is still out there after being banished. So is the Master technically 🦷

Such an odd episode , tone was all over the place and felt rushed however way Gatwa & Millie are able to switch from fun , horror , silly to emotional their such great actors!

Agreed. I won't be watching these episodes ever again, but I am still so happy for new Who! I just hope we get some more serious episodes ahead. These were a bit campy for my taste.

These two episodes reminded me of the first two from Matt Smith and Karren Gillian. A little over the top and weird, but I still enjoyed them as it is new Who. Will I watch these episodes again? Not likely. Not like how many times I have watched Blink, the Water of Mars, etc. I have seen those episodes many, many times. I just hope this is the silliest stuff from this season and we can get into some more serious episodes.

Does that space station have brakes? Or is it gonna crash into the planet?

They are that far in the future that i assume the planet would detect it incoming and send something to stop it impacting.

Ep was good but RTD still has the issue where his stories feel too big for single Eps so feel rushed but not big enough to fill a two-part EP
