@michaelklaus4 жыл бұрын
@@archive9796 No he means the creatures from Father's Day that were Grim Reapers in the Script and only became alien in the production process. They were never named reapers on screen in that episode. Only comic story Four Doctors and video game Legacy used their name. The Vortisaur is mainly from the 8th Doctor audio books IIRC. And they are something completely different. But I can totally see the confusion since the description of the creatures and the situation around the air ship in Storm Warning does make it sound like they reused the reapers and gave them the name Vortisaurs.

I'm sure no one is ever going to see this comment as it's years late, but the stuff they were talking about 'a lot of cowboys in here' is a phrase we have in the UK. Cowboy builders. Basically, when you get a handyman, plumber, builder, whatever, who pretends to be good at their job but leaves it in a bad state. They haven't done things right, left damages, or just caused more problems. So whe the Doctor says about cowboys being in her brain he's referring to the clockwork people scanning her brain but doing a shody job of it, and probably leaving some damage behind. It's definitely a UK phrase that will pass over most folks heads.

And two trivia things: 1. David and Sophia Myles, the actress who played Reinette, started dating for a couple years after this, and split up when Sophia moved to the US to get work in Hollywood. 2. David is super allergic to horses, so those scenes with Arthur the horse wandering around with him were miserable for him in a nose-and-eyes-itching sort of way.

This episode was described as the first time that the Doctor has 'discovered girls'. It was also another reminder for him that whoever he grows an attachment for, that they will always leave him in the end. This follows on from the last episode when he tells Rose he can't spend the rest of his life with her because she will die in a time that is nothing compared to a Time Lord. Also I love your reaction to the Doctor's ability to get all the ladies but just to let you know if you expect a bit of nookie going on in the TARDIS you'll be quite disappointed (well not from the Doctor in any case!!)

Ok, this isn't a big spoiler. Forget about the Time Reapers. You will literally never see them again, and the 'rules' of their appearance don't really make any sense, since even when very fixed points in time are changed, they don't show up. They're literally a one off enemy, made in the first season when they didn't have a solid grip on canon, and that really make something of a plothole of themselves

That's rich coming from Moffat. Rose was flawed but I loved that about her. She was a full fledged and developed PERSON, unlike Amy and 11's Clara. And it's actually rather gross if you look at this episode knowing that about him. Rose was a girl that, whatever else you can say about her, was not afraid to call the Doctor out for his fuck ups. Madame de Pompadour on the other hand saw him as some sort of angel or god. (Sounds familiar, actually....River Song, can you come to the courtesy phone? River Song?) Is that the kind of companion for the Doctor Moffat prefers? If so, ew. Plus it makes the Doctor seem like more of a dick than usual.
@deonnelson97803 жыл бұрын

Welcome to the most wildly out of character episode of the entire second season! Hooray! At first watch it's a decent episode and has lots of good moments, but wow the Doctor would never just abandon his companions and the TARDIS on a spaceship in the middle of nowhere without thinking of a way back first. He's a spontaneous man for sure, but he always has a reason for doing those spontaneous things. Throwing all caution to the wind to chase after one pretty French lady just isn't something he would do. He would do his best to save her, yes, of course he would! Because every individual person matters to him! And he admires her intellect and capacity to understand things that are way beyond her time, too. But this is the man who hesitated to nuke the Slitheen because "I could save the world but lose you." It just doesn't quite make sense to me that he would just go shattering a space-time window that cuts off his way back to the TARDIS, especially if he'd be abandoning Rose and Mickey without a single word. Especially not Tennant's Doctor, and especially if it's Rose he's leaving behind. And certainly not right after the conversation he had with Rose about his companions just one episode ago. When looking at the season as a whole, there are a lot of things that go on in this episode that are really out of place and never happen again. (Until, of course, season 5 when Steven Moffat rewrites literally the exact same storyline with Amy...) I want to like this episode, but for me it doesn't fit right in 9/10-era Doctor Who. I think the fandom is pretty split down the middle with this one: either you love it or you hate it.
