Karkat Vantas Actually, he had been mentioned in “The Christmas Invasion” giving orders to fire on the Sixorathax (sp) while Harriet Jones was taken (as Defense Minister, RTJ though he’d be in line to do so). You can hear one of the Tankers mention it before Harriet gives the order to fire.

I like that RTD didn't go cray with the Master's goal, and just was creative with *how* he accomplished his goal. The Master is always about ruling the universe, even if he has to do it one planet at a time. Plus, if he can add hurting the Doctor into the mix, all the better. "I am the Master and you will obey me," is pretty much his raison d'etre.

A little history on the Master, he was originally played by Roger Delgado, until Delgado was killed in a car accident. In respect for Delgado's memory, it was decided to"rest" the character from the series for a few years. When he returned he had used up all of his regenerations and was staying alive through sheer force of will. His body was hideously decayed during this period so he looked like a decomposing corpse. Two different actors played him during this time, Peter Pratt and Geoffrey Beevers. Eventually he transferred his mind into a new body played by Anthony Ainley who you guys saw in the Five Doctors. In the 90's TV movie he was executed for his crimes but managed to transfer his mind to another body again, played this time by Eric Roberts. That version appeared to die in the TV movie, but was resurrected to fight in the Time Warner with a new series of regenerations. You've now seen him as Derek Jacobi and John Simms. No spoilers about future incarnations, if there are any...

Gordon Tripple appeared VERY briefly as the incarnation before Eric Roberts, also in the Tv movie... Also, I think the Pratt/Beevers incarnation is meant to be the same as the Delgado one: because he's on his last incarnation in the first (12 regenerations, 13 faces) cycle, he doesn't want to die, and the body ages to the point he's dragging around a rotting, decaying shell of what he once was.

YEEEES!! The hype is real! There are so many good scenes in this episode including Martha seeing her family being taken away and The Doctor's conversation with The Master over the phone. Although the highlight scene for me is definitely The Doctor telling Jack and Martha about Gallifrey. Something about the flashbacks and the music really sets the mood for it so well. I also love the rapport between the three characters. The scenes they have with each other is great! Can't wait for next week! Martha strikes back! :D

Yep, I'm pretty sure since all Time Lords are telepathic, then they as a species would be capable of bending other, weaker minds to their will. But since not all of the Doctor (and Master's) incarnations can do it, that it's more of a latent talent than a species-wide power. The hypnotism thing is probably strong in some regenearations and weaker in others.

Saxon appeared in a newspaper headline in series 2 of Doctor Who (Love & Monsters), which aired before series 1 of Torchwood, so it was already planned and seeded that far back. In fact, want to know how far back the Master's return was foreshadowed in the show? Series 1, Dalek - Rose tells the Doctor that there might be Time Lord survivors out there, the Doctor taps his forehead and said that if there were, he'd be able to sense it. So already it was planned that the Master was hiding as a human.

Being fair, what we English call crisps were originally called 'Game Chips.' They were cut by hand VERY thin, dried out on a cloth, fried very quickly for a few seconds and were served with game, such as pheasant.
