@Verumex5 ай бұрын
Moffat has claimed that Davison was his favourite Doctor, so the line was in part from him, but Tennant definitely took a lot of inspiration from him too. He was one of the more "human" Doctor's, for lack of a better word. Not as alien, and a bit more emotionally vulnerable, like Tennant is. Also, a funny note: Tennant, the actor, goes on to meet Davison's daughter, who appears in a season 4 story, they started dating, and now they're married with kids! So Davison is now Tennant's father in law!

The Master first appeared in the 1970s alongside Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor, he had 4 different incarnations played by 5 actors, though 3 of those actors only played him in one story each. The Fifth Doctor encountered the third and longest reigning classic incarnation quite a few times and he did indeed have a goatee beard. He was considered one of the big three Doctor Who villains alongside the Daleks and Cybermen. I’m sure the reveal of Yana as the Master in Utopia must have been an even crazier surprise for people who grew up with the classic series.

Moffat loves a bootstrap paradox. You had one in Blink with the conversation between Sally and the Doctor originating from its own transcript, and now you get another with the Doctor knowing how to fix the TARDIS because he'd seen himself do it in the past.

I absolutely love the way 10 talks about Doctors 1-4, especially 1. I haven't watched a ton of those early stories (a lot of them are ROUGH lol) but interpreting the First Doctor, who was a crotchety, cheeky, doddering old man, as just a teenager by Time Lord standards, is one of my most favorite loose retcons in the whole show. Davidson is great, and all the better that he eventually because David Tennant's father-in-law. He actually visited a one-time Doctor Who convention I attended here in Canada for the Doctor Who 50th anniversary year. Great speaker, and just seems like a genuinely kind and warm person. There's a clip from a different convention where he appeared with some other classic Doctors, and a fan asked what's the most unique gift a fan has ever given them. They struggled to think of an answer, until someone else in the audience shouted "grandchildren!" What I wouldn't give to time travel to that room and experience that laughter first-hand xD
@paulhammond69783 ай бұрын
Yeah, I like the idea that the Doctor in his early reincarnations was like a teenager pretending to be a proper grown-up by insisting that he was "too old for that childish stuff" - so he chose older looking bodies because he thought that gave him more authority.

@@10thdoctor15 maybe he did, I haven’t seen that. All I know is that he said Peter was “his doctor” MANY times at MANY conventions. I’ve literally heard him say it live, in person. Tennant was only 2 or 3 years old when Tom became the doctor. He was about 9 or 10 when Peter took over. So Tom may have been the first doctor he watched live, but Peter was the first doctor he had real connection to due to his age at the time. (His words)

I won't tell you when he meets her so as not to spoil it, but later on David Tennant will meet Peter Davison's daughter Georgia when she's cast in a future episode. They end up getting married, meaning Peter is now David's Father in Law. David and Georgia started having kids including a daughter. So it's a joke around the internet that: The Doctor married the Doctor's Daughter who gave birth to the Doctor's daughter who is also the Doctor's granddaughter. There's actually even more to that but it would give away a spoiler so I'll leave it at that for now.

@GhostPurple693 ай бұрын
it's great, but i think it's also not in as wide use as it used to be. 30 years ago, people would have been guffawing. even in 2007, i recall needing to explain it repeatedly. 😅 i'm presuming the huge leaps in cultural acceptance since the late '90s, to the point that gay marriage is largely old news at this point, means terms like this may have more of a historical significance if any, for younger people. it's funny how you can trace evolving attitudes in even as queer-forward show as doctor who, with gay marriage being a futuristic "as-if" punchline as recently as "gridlock" and far too many pre-2023 😬 moments toward gender diversity. that one early torchwood episode where tosh has an alien lesbian fling is basically a full-on trans scare story, down to jack of all people coming down on the side of "trans people are shifty and i don't trust them as far as i can throw them." 2006 wasn't that long ago! ... but yeah, it's a fun aside for those who catch it. especially right after the master fatuously wonders if the doctor is asking him out on a date. 😆
