I agree with you about the lack of real aliens and monsters. Tbh I don't really like this weird shift into supernatural elements. In previous eras, the seemingly supernatural stuff was usually got a sci fi explanation and I prefer that. It also didn't help that in 3 episodes in the season, the antagonists were a result of ai, which just got really repetitive. Literally the only episode in Series 14/Season 1 so far that actually had a straight up alien threat was Rogue, which is really weird.

I like some of the supernatural elements. Think the toymaker was a brilliant choice to bring back, but I miss the silly things too like adipose and sletheen sometimes
@Creek9324 күн бұрын
@ I liked the Toymaker too. I would be fine if RTD just had the Pantheon beings reserved for the finales, but all the other episodes were still totally sci fi. I just don’t know how to feel about there being literal Goblins in Doctor Who, or actual full on magic like the charm circle in 73 Yards.

15th Doctor meets Davros or something would make him feel very Doctory

It was too cinematic at first. The newest Christmas special was actually pretty good. Writing was very "dr who", even with openly acknowledging plot holes. Acting was great, dr actually showed a range of emotions instead of just excitement. Hopefully they keep the momentum.

I agree the Christmas special was very good, if Moffat wrote more episodes I feel like it would make it more dr who feely

i feel a lot of DC fans want every episode to be dark and have a war esc gritty and morbid feel like BOOM. But i actually really enjoy the more lighthearted and interesting concepts. Dot & Bubble is such a cool concept and i really enjoyed it. So many fans want DC to go back to darker stories but i think more of a mix between light and dark would be better. I think Ncuti is an amazing doctor and probably my fave (other than david Tennant) and he plays the doctor in a different way which i love as it keeps the character fresh. Many fans dont like how he plays it with such emotion but i think it adds to the stakes of the stories as he cares for the people hes helping. Cant wait for season 2 and to see varada in action, hoping for some more ruby cameos as well!

I just want a better mix than whatever we are currently getting. Season 2 seems promising for this though.

Doctor Who will always bring a sense of joy to the world, no matter what happens. We need more hope and confidence. -JMM

We need a more serious Doctor, not scary, not shouty, just serious. Yes, a darker tone is in order. Tennant’s 60th is a fair blueprint. Off with the jolted gatwa.

For me the show is too different. Which is fine, it took me time to adjust to Capaldi and the show has definitive breaks in terms of narrarive, visisual and the general feel to the show. But over the RD1 and Moffat era, episodes were emotionally or narratively layered. It means when i was a kid i enjoyed it for how awesome the doctor was and as an adult I can appreciate the more mature or narrative themes. The entire RTD2 era has been incredibly face value and often quite childish to the point i struggle to watch. And i think thats not entirely bad, doctor who is a family show arter all, but its limiting the show. All the episodes feel really childish, very simple and the climax of every episode feels lazy. The only episode i enjoyed was Boom, which again had the classic power of love moffatism. I also think Gatwa is the worst of the new who doctors. Hes clearly not geared to this role and underacts consistently. He doesnt feel comfortable as the doctor. I think hes pretty poorly written. But he lacks the ability that Smith and Capaldi had to elevate very mediocre stories in like s6/10. I think the show should take a more gritty darker tone, and needs new writers. The RTD2 era is just very underwhelming.

There are so many rushed endings. And the characters don’t change much between episodes. And I agree I really don’t like the visual style of this era. It was get in the 60th, which was filmed before Disney got involved. But now its filmed like its trying to be prestige television. Doctor Who does not need to be prestige television. I actively dislike how polished this era looks
@SaammuelWho5 күн бұрын
Yes! It looks too shiny and not grounded, which really takes me out of it.

Doctor Who has always been popular, not for the effects coming from a big budget, which it has rarely had in the past, but from it's plots and creativity without a budget. Dematerialising and materialising the TARDIS for instance has always been a creative, cheap way to get the Doctor and companions from one place and time to another. This type of creativity has always given Doctor Who an edge of uniqueness, a style against the grain of other Sci-Fi shows. Give it a big budget and what happens? The TARDIS becomes a regular space ship, flying around like any other conventional Sci-Fi. This is one of the problems with new Who. Why is everyone so obsessed with getting a mega budget? The show overall, is cheapened as a result.

I hard disagree with you saying that the last of the timelord's thing is Chibnall's fault, RTD could of just not written the character as having guilt/pain over that stuff if he didn't want to just do the same thing again yet he chose to
@SaammuelWho5 күн бұрын
No lmao. It would be even more horrifc if RTD just didn't mention it ever again. Chibnall made a mess with Gallifrey and the Timelords and Russel was left to pick up the pieces there. He also hasn't shown guilt over it? You're just making stuff up now. He's felt pain over being alone due to it but not guilt. Would be weird if he felt nothing in relation to his whole race being wiped out for the 2nd time.
@kevin100015 күн бұрын
Most people get it wrong when it comes to chibnall and gallifrey he didn’t have the planet destroyed he only had the master commit mass genocide of the people of gallifrey cause if the actual planet was destroyed there wouldn’t have been a matrix of take the doctor back to and tell her about the timeless child weather or not he was lying to her about the actual identity of the timeless child or not and more than likely the cyberlords occupy gallifrey now

As much as i love ncuti as 15, it just doesnt feel the same as it used to be. I agree with other comments like its all too comical now and just like cheesy. Some of the stories have been great but most of them have just been filler episodes and pointless stories

In my opinion Doctor Who needs to go on another long hiatus. Much like what it did in the 80s

That's a terrible idea! Considering the show's recent surge in popularity, I'd argue that Disney should actually double down on Doctor Who and revitalize the series

Maybe not as long as 16 years.
@WizFizz4 күн бұрын
So many just say, "Disney just has the streaming rights", but it's much more than that. With such a streaming platform, you are trying to engage different audiences and in different ways, plus trying to appease the US streaming platform that globally distributes/streams the show (with significantly more opportunties for it to be seen by a more mainstream audience in the US, who Bad Wolf and the BBC have been trying to appeal to for years). As a result, the show has become more contrived, childish and 'Disneyfied'. You can't deny that Disney hasn't had any influence.

They just need to bin off 15 already. He is so incredibly annoying that he ruins every scene. Massive step down from previous 14 doctors and it’s a shame. You can tell he was written so that RTD can imaging living his fantasy’s as the doctor 😂. I don’t know why Moffat and RTD insist on making the doctor so sexual and weird all the time. It didn’t work with 11 and it’s even worse with 15.

@@robbycooper6787 Yeah, Russell's always been doing this with the Doctor. Even 9 did a little bit of kissing once or twice, not as much as later incarnations, but still. The only difference between then and now is that now it seems like this problem, as you said, has just gotten even worse. Like, come on! The dude's so old! Why would he fall in love with those younger than him?!
