I recall reading a review, which read "once the Cybermen leave the tombs, nothing happens until they go back in." Sounds about right. It is more on an emotional level and those seem to not hold up on rewatchings, regardless or how awesome they feelcon the first viewing. Parts 3 and 4 are padded, and more could have been done than watching cybermats scuttle about with a noisy sound effect or a Cybermen actor announcing "Ow!" As the humans bash it back down the manhole cover. They might have removed that noise in the special edition, but it's thankfully preserved in earlier releases. 🤪

I like tomb, but it is overrated

@@AnotherScifiGuy ditto. The themes are there and the atmosphere carries it. Just wish it did more with the plotting, though George Pastell makes Kleig a top-10 villain with menace and presentation. If Kleig got what Vaughn had...

I do like Tomb - it is perhaps not as great as I thought it was when I first watched it, but it was probably the story that I first watched that raised Troughton to an all-time great Doctor for me. Race is an interesting topic for me when you look at Classic Who as a whole - sometimes it has been progressive - Earl Cameron as the astronaut in The Tenth Planet stands out as a high point, Sonny Caldinez played numerous roles, including Kemel in Evil of the Daleks, Roy Stewart in Tomb (and also in Terror of the Autons), all of which were at a time when it wasn’t easy to see a non-white face on TV in Britain. There were of course some mis-steps - John Bennett as Li Hsen Chang in Talons (also played the General in Invasion of the Dinosaurs), and the characterisation of Cotton in The Mutants (unfortunate name for a black character with an exaggerated Caribbean accent, but otherwise a strong character) perhaps. Generally, I think race as a subject was handled ahead of its time by Classic Who, although it may seem less enlightened by today’s standards.

I really love ice warriors, enemy and Web. I think Tomb is solid but doesn't live up to the hype
