I have this hearing aid. I really love it. The stickers last 5-10 days, longer if I use Skin-Tac first. Causes no irritation. Occasionally I use the headband to give my skin a break. I have single sided deafness caused by a cold virus. My other ear hears perfectly. I still have trouble hearing when there’s background noise or multiple voices. I wear it through dog agility classes where I’m running and it doesn’t shift. My issues are that I have long hair and, as with any aid, it gives feedback. Same with hats. Otherwise it’s been fantastic.

Hi Dr Cliff ! I’m amazed of how you showed the new technology that sticks behind the ear . I myself is deaf able talk very well I use 2 hearing aids sometimes I don’t understand tend to misunderstand lots of time .So I stopped wearing them .... But I don’t want to drill my mastoid bone because my left side had been surgically removed a kind of gland swollen contacting the the nerves caused vertigo (Meniere’s Disease ) I really glad that found your information so clear , thank you 😊

I am DeafBlind. I am extremely Tactile sensitive. My hearing loss is sensorineural and profound and audiologists and ENTs say bone conduction wouldn’t help me. However, my husband created a temporary system with bone conduction speakers of different sizes. He did write software to process the sound to lower frequencies. It worked! I used small speakers for music and a large one for speech. I have been Tactile ASL dependent for almost two decades. With the bone conduction, I heard words easily. It was more like clear thoughts than sound. I feel music the same way with guitar or piano. Would Adhear be willing to try this on me?

I have an Aftershokz headset, which I absolutely love. The problem is that it will only Bluetooth with an electronic device. Why doesn't anyone create one that will pick up natural sounds and transfer them into the headset like a hearing aid? There is enough real estate to pack in tons of technology in the device. If there was such a thing, I would throw away my hearing aids in a heartbeat.

Wow probably just what I need! I just purchased a Bone Conductor Headset. The AfterShokz Trekz Open Air. I wanted to see what Bone Conduction can do! I have a damaged ear drum. Due to having a tube in my ear for years due to collapsed Eustachian tube. To my astonishment the headphones actually worked great and now I know that I should be looking into a bone conduction hearing aid as well as a regular hearing aid.

Your audiologist can tell you what is the best type of hearing aid for your particular deafness, no one who isn't qualified should even try to decide what aid suits their hearing loss, I have never heard of the tube damaging their ear drums, also the ear drum can heal itself! xx

I bought a set of hearing aids and turned them up all the way and still no change in hearing ability. Worked in machine shop for 25 years with loud sketching noise. I bought a pair of Aftershock head sets and can hear from my I phone perfectly. I am looking for a device that will pick up people speaking to me and sounds around me that will send those sounds through my head bones to my ability to hear like Aftershock. I think we are on to something here and maybe blue also interring in to the picture. There is a great opportunity to help many people and I know it will happen. Can’t wait.

The hearing aid on the deaf side sends the sound vibration through the skull for the cochlea on the good side to pick up. Then the cochlea sends the sound through the auditory nerve to the brain to intepreted for you to understand.

Hello, Dr. Cliff. I had surgery due to a meningoencephalocele and the doctors had to cover my right middle ear with abdominal fat, therefore, I have conductive hearing loss. I've tried the Adhear twice with different audiologists and it sounds a bit mechanical, but it's efficient enough to have normal hearing. I am an audio engineer, is it Adhear or any other hearing aid capable of transducing clear sound, high and low frequencies and high sound pressure levels? Is it possible to use hearing aids while I am using a hearing aid? Thanks for reading me. :)

Hello Dr. Cliff,I have have been wearing hearing aids for 4 years which helped me to hear ,but 2 years ago my hearing became very distorted. I have been fitted with different aids but they have not helped. I have been referred to Addenbrookes Hostpital, U.K. but did not quite reach the criteria for cochlear implants. Is it possible that Medel bone conduction aids would help me to hear without distortion.

If hearing things like I have heard my music through the bone conduction headphones is better than that, I’ll gladly let them put magnets thingies in my skull to make it work! I am a musician who hasn’t been able to play for over 20 years. I put these in and if it’s loud enough, I hear words clearly, notes resonate and instruments aren’t jumbled into a chord with no distinction between pitches. It’s brilliant! I thought my Starkey livio 2400’s were great. I’m in awe currently.

I have bilateral atresia and currently use two Sophono bone anchored devices. I am unhappy with the volume level I'm able to achieve with my current devices. I'm also hesitant to undergo surgery for a different system which may in fact require both an extraction of the current devices as well as an additional implantation surgery. Is this product appropriate for me? Is there a trial program available to see if this will work for me?

You likely won't get the level of amplification that you want. This device is similar to using a headband. You definitely want your device to be bone anchored if you want more power. Check out the BAHA 5 Power and BAHA 5 SuperPower from Cochlear Americas.

This is available nationwide. However, it is very new so not all clinics will be offering it to their patients yet. The recommendation depends on the severity of your loss. I do not know the answer to the insurance question as all insurances are different and since there is no surgical aspect to the ADHEAR, it may not be covered. If you are a swimmer, it would be fine. I have been diagnosed at Mayo clinic with labyrinthitis in my right ear. Effecting both hearing and balance. I'm told there is nothing that can be done to reverse the effect. Over my past 2 years ive learned to just live with it but its hard sometimes. Asking people to repeat or just flat out not hearing them because of other noises around. Anyway im def in my right ear. I'm told my left ear is perfect, middle ear is perfect, but 100% lose in right. Ive seen 3 different audiologist and 3 different ent now. Everyone has a different reason why I have no hearing but everyone of them agrees nothing can be done.

@@DrCliffAuD doctor said he didnt recommend an implant at this time. Told me to let the tech advance further and look into it at a later time. Said patients that get an implant will hear people talking in a robotic voice one one side and normal on the other. The brain has to learn to mesh the 2 sounds as 1 and some people have difficulty with it. Was trying to push me more towards a cros device instead. I was thinking about trying out the bose ear buds. Should give similiar results as the cros at a way cheaper cost.

@DrCliffAuD
@DrCliffAuD 6 жыл бұрын
This positioning has more to do with how the Trekz actually stay on your head. As long as you have good bone contact, it doesn't really matter where the oscillator makes contact with your skull. They put bone anchored hearing aids behind your ears because it is less conspicuous.

Part two. I “hear” tinnitus all day long in the right ear that is somewhere between an office building sized air conditioner unit fan and odd chirruping noises that sound like effects on the starship Enterprise. Thanks
@DrCliffAuD
@DrCliffAuD 6 жыл бұрын
Likely nothing you can do for the tinnitus in your right ear since it likely wouldn't accept any sound masking if that ear is deaf.

Here's a dumb question I hope you're patient enough to answer: Can people with no history of hearing problems use this as a means to augment and amplify their sense of hearing? If Not...what devices of similar (or even better, smaller build and scale) would you point towards? The easier to hide from people's eyes (as well as their prejudices), the better.

No, this is a medical device not a Personal Sound Amplifier.

I have worked with patients using Adhear in hot and high humidity weather. 2 days is max. You have to use extra sticky tape that cover the outside of adhesive pad for longer period of usage. That is its biggest downside. Otherwise the device is quite useful for anyone really need this HA
@DrCliffAuD
@DrCliffAuD 6 жыл бұрын
Seems like constant moisture may be a problem. I wore the sticky pad for a while and it stayed in place for a week with working out 2x per day and multiple showers, but I live in the desert.
@xoi100dong

Doctor Cliff, AuD but you use only the adhesive pad, not with the actual device? Weight can be another factor

I don't see how it could work as well as the Sophono, since that has implanted magnets to fasten the processor tighter and thus improve bone conduction. I have SSD from Acoustic Neuroma surgery.
@DrCliffAuD
@DrCliffAuD 6 жыл бұрын
You are correct. It wouldn't work as well as an implanted device. This device is comparable to a BC Hearing Aid worn on a soft band.

is this an operation?? like cochlear implants??
@DrCliffAuD
@DrCliffAuD 6 жыл бұрын
Traditional bone anchored hearing aids do require a minor surgical procedure (less invasive than a Cochlear Implant). The ADHEAR requires NO surgery.

Possibly, it depends on the hearing of your opposite ear.

Hi Stephanie. No, I am no deaf. I have a funky hearing loss in my right ear with a normal left ear. I don't typically think of a BAHA for an individual who is profoundly deaf unless it is in only one ear. Do you have Single Sided Deafness?

Yes, bone conduction devices are a common treatment option for Treacher Collins Syndrome, but it depends on the level of Sensorineural loss that would determine if the ADHEAR would work.
