Although I was accepted in UP Manila, BS Public Health wasn't given to me and I felt that I wouldn't really be happy in a different course even though I'm in UPM. I'm now studying BS Medical Technology, my dream course, in Our Lady of Fatima University as a DOST Scholar. Are you currently studying for CETs?

Mas prefer ko ang Nursing na Doctor kung ER Doctor sila or GP or Family Med, mga generalist doctors, kasi mas maalaga ung approach nila. Kasi pagka Generic na Premed tapos Doctor na agad, nandun ung Ego and arrogance. Para sa akin, Medicine is more on how you care about the patient who’s sick rather than flashing your intelligence or title.

Agree po ako sa sinabi niyo abt sa public heath system ng bansa natin. Nakakalungkot lang po na natatabunan ng ating gobyerno ang ating sistemang pangkalusugan nitong mga nakaraang taon (hanggang ngayon) kaya po ngayon umaasa po ang karamihan sa clinical prevention, kaya ang mga nurses, med tech etc. ay hirap na hirap na. Sana po maging maganda po ang strategy ng public health para sa nakakarami.

Ang ganda kasi nahighlight niyo ung “preventative care” sa Public Health. Nanonood ako ng vlogs ni Dr. Willie Ong and he’s really heavy on curative medicine. May 2 path kasi tayo na pwedeng ipursue: - Capitalist Approach: US mataas ang obesity pero mataas ang life expectancy dahil maganda ang health care system. Ibig sabihin puro fast food pero nagrerely na lang sa Statin para mabuhay nang mahaba. This is favorable to Fast Food Companies and Big Pharma. - Preventative Approach: palaging nasa ilalim ng countries with high mortality rate due to heart disease, cancer, etc ang Japan and Korea. Kasi sa kinakain nilang sariwa and puro gulay. Ang pagkain ng Pilipino ay puro mamantika at maalat. Puro pork pati and walang gulay. So this will entail an overhaul of our cuisine, and para magbenefit na din ung mga vegetable farmers na atin. May doctor pa akong nakadebate sa FB, binabash niya lahat ng traditional and holistic approach sa medicine. Hindi niya alam madami nang doctor ang nagswiswitch into Functional Medicine. And sa US, may Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) and Doctor of Naturopathy (ND). Sa Korea nga, naka-integrate ang Acupuncture, marriage of Eastern and Western Medicine. And may mga Korean herbs din sila na piniprescribe. The long term solution is preventative. Given na ung pagkain natin hindi healthy and hindi ma-exercise ang Filipino. Ayaw nating naglalakad, pinagpapawisan or umiitim sa araw.

Hi doc! I find ur videos really substantial and entertaining 😍 I'm an aspiring med student here! My degree program is BSPH in UPM. I'm just not so sure if I'd pursue med pa knowing how vital my course in itself is for the country. Do you think I can still practice Public Health (leaning on health systems and policy making) even if I pursue medschool? Or would you suggest that I stay on track with my course and help in improving our counrty's public health? I'm just anxious that I wouldn't be able to apply what I learned in my course as being a medical doctor is more on, as you've said, individualized healthcare. Hello June! PH alumni here na nasa med school. Pwede ka naman mag-PH track kahit mag-med ka kasi iba-iba naman ang mga expert sa public health. Ako ang balak ko pagkatapos ng med ay mag-MPH at DrPH (health policy) kung kaya pa. Definitely mas maraming opportunity kapag doktor ka pero dahil iba na yung PH curriculum niyo (2018 ako nag-grad) eh baka mas madali na sa inyo makapasok sa magandang trabaho sa DOH o sa mga NGO. Sa totoo lang naiinggit nga ako sa curriculum niyo. PH is ♥️
