Futurama fact that recontextualizes a couple gags is that, in Futurama, all the robots run off of alcohol, hence why the robot doctor drinks a martini, and why bender had a beer in place of an IV drip

As far as the patient being on the outside of the helicopter, that's a reference to the TV Show MASH, which is about a MASH that stands for Mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Korean War. That first episode was supposed to be a spoof on MASH. The vietnam-era helicopter medical evacuations were external. We didn't have the tech to make large enough helicopters to hold patients inside. The bone-itis thing is actually a spoof on the over-dramatic ways strychnine contorts the body as it kills, which is why it was a popular murder-method in pre-television plays, so there was an excuse for the actor to ham-up their death scene.

The first scene with the patients on the outside of the helicopter is directly pulled from the opening of MASH, where that's how it was during the Korean War. That "80's Guy" was cryogenically frozen in the 1990s, until they could find a cure/fix to "Boneitis", which took until the 3000s. I assume the incorrect use of -itis was because even identifying the ailment hadn't been done in the Futurama universe, which showed why the cure/fix took so long (it also functioned as a reminder that it had something to do with the bones, and they used -itis since it sounds medical to non-medically-trained people, while also being quicker to say then "Mysterious Fatal Bone ailment").
