This is an incredibly well-made video. I had lasik March 3rd, 2023, and everything went well. I'm currently dealing with dry eye and ended up in the Optometrist's chair 3 weeks post-op due to dry patches forming on the cornea which blurred my vision. All well now, but the dry eye post-Lasik is no joke!

@johnwpmusic2 ай бұрын
My contacts are super comfortable and I wear them probably from work until i am getting ready for bed! The fact that they don't discuss the dry eye effects and the nerves being severed in surgery is insane! I mean maybe they put it as a disclosure in the mound of paperwork you have to sign your life away on but they still don't have an open conversation with you about that. Let's also not forget that the surgery is going to cost roughly $5,200 without any insurance (and most insurance won't cover it). I was going to get it done just because my insurance offered a $2000 discount and you CAN use Flexible Spending Account money to cover the cost but will have to pay out for the rest. Currently $3300 is the 2025 max limit on FSA. Frankly even with my discounts I was looking at a $3700 bill for a surgery that only takes 10 minutes for both eyes. Talk about insane scalping prices!

According to google most people have dry eyes cured in the first 6 months but about a quarter take up to 1-2 years to fully recover from that symptom. Ask help to an eye doctor that is specialized in dry eyes to help you managing the symptoms and stay strong, one day the symptoms will be completely gone

I had lasik eye surgery four years ago. I never had dry eye before and developed dry eye afterwards. One day my left eye went black for 20-30 sec and I got scared and saw my optometrist who looked behind my eyes and saw nothing also confirmed it wasn’t and eye stroke. I still had a healthy eye and 20/20 vision. Today I wake up and have a sharp stabbing pain in the same eye. I put warm compress, too fish oil supplements, eye drops, and castor oil and it has been shooting the pain on and off all day. Please do you have any suggestions? Do you think it’s more than dry eye🙏

Hi I am from India and recently had SILK procedure done. It is being promoted here by J&J. It is presented as a much safer option with minimal dryness and reduced healing time owing to the incision being smaller and lesser powerful laser. Your thoughts?

¿¿¿ What about PRK, is it as bad for mgd and severe dry eye as Lasik? I did have PRK about 25 years ago supposedly to not be as bad as Lasik, because I already had dry eye when I had the procedure done; and my ophthalmologist said it would be a better option. Now I suffer from Severe Dry eye, I am using the blood serum tears, heat masks, gel, ointment, and have had my first ipl, going for my second one this Friday. Thanks for the wealth of knowledge you provide, I greatly appreciate you! When I have the ipl procedures, should the gland expression be done at the same time, or after several ipl sessions???
@DoctorEyeHealth3 ай бұрын
Hey thank you!! So many good questions here. PRK is believed to be a better option for dry eye vs lasik. I personally like to express the glands after every IPL session but some specialists don’t feel it is necessary. I know some clinics that only express on the final session. I also think it is best practice to debride the eyelids of any biofilms / kerotanized tissue to help better open the glands
@mspader83 ай бұрын
@@DoctorEyeHealth I would try more if it wasn't so expensive, $1,200. each, plus the $1600 for the 4 ipl sessions. Plus she only offered the 1 after the 4 ipl's; probably thinking who is going to spend $1200 each time.. who knows?

Very informative. if you can discuss the impact of multiple eye or ocular procedures on dry eyes. For example: Dry eye after Lasik. Then upper blepharoplasty surgery (eyelid numbness -upper and lower- is evident from nerve regeneration post surgery). What risks are then of undergoing lens replacement surgery for increasing/worsening dry eyes? I ask as since Lasik (monovision) My presbyopia is driving me nutd. I basically live in my entire day in reading glasses for work. I can't even read a food label without taking a photo and zooming in. Decided as a 60yr old with the start of cataracts (and entire family who had cataracts) to get the lens replacement. Last minute b4 the procedure the surgeon said Lasik caused scarring and my vision might remain blurred, so called it off. Only positive was now knowing that the bright blurriness I see when reading (frustrating at eye exams to explain I can see the letters but there is some light refraction in the middle of the letter) and the type of glare from oncoming car lights, is due to the astigmatisms. Canada has since approved the light adjustable lens, which I'm told will allow the adjustment of the prescription to try eliminate any bluriness from astigmatisms. I really want to do this RLE and be done with readers, and be proactive against future cataracts. Soo would love to see it explained in a similar fashion what compunded effects are from Lasik, to severing nerves in upper bleph, to a lens replacement. Starting to think that the impact of Lasik corneal scarring on cataract patients are only going to come to the discussion as Lasik patients age.

I have a bruder's mask. Every time I use it my eyes get really red from the heat, and very blurry where I can't make out the TV images very well. Is that normal?
@DoctorEyeHealth Жыл бұрын
The heat and pressure with those types of masks cause a temporary corneal distortion which will make your vision more blurry. The heat will encourage the blood vessels around the eyes to dilate and the eyelids may look more red for short time. Worth a discussion with your local doctor about their thoughts. You could also try the TearRestore mask is it doesn't push on the eyes and cause that distortion.

@DoctorEyeHealth Жыл бұрын
Yes! I will have some videos on eye vitamins and other supplements in the coming weeks. Lutein has been studied specifically as as carotenoid which is known to be about 1000x more concentrated in the eye. It helps with free radical damage within the retina itself and may help with some conditions such as macular degeneration. As far as lutein on dry eye, I have not seen studies on that as much but maybe. I know other vitamins within ocuvite and similar brands have been shown in some research publications to have a benefit for tear secretion.

Just after a week of surgery, my eyesight was the best, i could see things very clearly from a long distance. But 3 months post surgery, i started realising that the vision is no more the same. I have dry eyes. It's been almost a year and the vision hasn't improved much, i still have dry eyes. I have a doubt, normally post surgery, the two most common problems are dry eyes and refractive error. Since my vision did improve just after the surgery, that means i don't have refractive error, but i still do have dry eyes issue. Am i right at this deduction or i may have refractive error issue???
