The vitamin analogy Dr Mike used was PERFECT. I've never understood that more vitamins don't necessarily mean better, until he put it in that way.
@Cassxowary2 жыл бұрын
it's not though, because hypervitaminosis is a thing just like water poisoning(/water intoxication/hyperhydration/overhydration/water toxemia), too much of anything is bad... having too many building materials will not be toxic to you...
@jmurray11102 жыл бұрын
But it could overload the holding area and kill you after it collapses
@maricamp1833 Жыл бұрын
I loved that analogy too and really puts into perspective. It also makes sense why while pregnant you’re advised (even dr mike mentioned in one of his videos) to take pre natal vitamins. You’re building two houses so you have to get extra materials. Genius! 😂
@driesjansen3273 Жыл бұрын
ofc more is not always better, but if you for ex dont get enough vitamin C in your diet, then you can bring that to a normal level. Ofc if you have enough already its not needed. But most vitamins you can't really overdose since you just pee them out. Just the vitamin K, A, D and E are stored in fats so those can be toxic in high amounts. the building analogy of Dr. mike is not really accurate because if you wanna build a building but you have not enough glass, supplying extra glass will speed up the building process.
@mx.n.3682 Жыл бұрын
@@Cassxowaryit won't be toxic to you but it's essentially useless, extra building blocks won't help you build faster, they'll just sit there and do nothing, and remember the body is constantly receiving a "supply" so that extra will always remain useless

They definitely weigh the lighting against the person pitching. Keeps them more spotlit, and keeps the sharks looking more like shaded, darker figures. And it helps make the pitcher look a bit more exposed. The real trick is keeping the airflow poor, and giving the sharks drinking water so they stay cool, and the pitcher sweats.

Can doctors cure anything? Not much, if you take a strict definition of cure to mean restoration of the status quo with zero sequelae. Cure is too simple a concept. Journalists, not doctors, talk of cures. The goal of treatment is not to cure, but to improve quality of life. If they could cure everything they would be miracle workers or faith healers every doctor has limitations. They aren't gods or prophets you read and hear about in fairy tales or mythologies.

Doctor Mike: "Do you really need 114 oranges worth of vitamin c??" Me: "No scurvy?????"
@james00003 жыл бұрын
"need" ? Depends. While oranges have something between 50-75% of the recommended amount of vitamin C, there is a lot of disagreement with the recommended amounts for vitamins, minerals and trace elements even the average person should consume, let alone treating individuals as individuals and factoring in if they are currently deficient. As far as it having over 100x the vitamin C of an orange, so it's basically like eating a single Kakadu plum. This does not impress me as much as the fact that people think oranges have a lot of vitamin C in them. True, that's the highest amount of vitamin C found in a naturally growing edible plant (Kakadu), but what's that got to do with the price of tea in China?... nothing. I don't mean to sound hateful/angry about this at all, but there is still a lot of work to do around vitamin intake research as well as regulations that control what can be said cures different conditions, so I generally get upset when I see a person who should be very well educated and versed on the subject matter say something so silly (The CC, not you Jasmine). BTW: I think you aren't legally allowed to say that ANY amount of oranges will cure scurvy, in the USA, even if it will in reality.

The Syndaver labs model is INCREDIBLE. I am a Simulated/Standardized Patient Trainer for a University and have been working in this area for a while and this just blew me away. With my job, we bring the human rapport/bedside manner aspect to the job and have always provided computerized mannequins for the more invasive/intensive physical components of medical simulations (ie. practicing lumbar punctures, mimicking child birth, etc.) We also have an anatomy lab and know how important cadavers are. But this model is SO MUCH more realistic than even our high end mannequins. Often, they can seem somewhat unrealistic or "clunky" at times but pairing it with this option for certain practices seems so smart. This is a VERY cool creation and I hope one day our organization will invest in something so incredibly useful. Okay...nerdy rant over.
@gnarthdarkanen74643 жыл бұрын
Not one person in the comments has mentioned that by his own math (estimated, admittedly) with a Cadaver costing about $5K, and this model being a permanent class-room addition, even at $40K, once you've taught through 8 Cadavers worth of lessons, it's paid for itself... Yeah, they're expensive, but because once you buy it, you keep ONE forever, it doesn't seem like it should take very long for it to achieve that "break-even" state, and then the school/class is achieving profit over continuing to "do it all the old fashioned way"... ;o)
