I had a tkr here in Greece two months ago. I was given only Paracetamol in hospital for pain. I continued to take it at home and luckily it covered my pain.

My recovery in hospital after a TKR was spent screaming for oxycodone, followed by screaming for more oxycodone when I got home. In between that I was begging for amputation! I have always had a high pain threshold but I was one of the unlucky ones who had a bad time and complications. I am told I will forget in time and be grateful I had the op but am still waiting…and so is my friend who had one at the same time. I know people who have sailed through it and that it is the norm rather than the exception. I needed this operation so just have to grin and bear it, and pray…

Same! On top of that, I'm allergic to just about every type of pain medication except for Tylenol. That's a joke! What's even more hilarious is I'm scheduled to have my other knee replaced in three months!🎉😢🎉😢🎉

@@markusanthony7 Me again, two months since I last posted and very little progress to show for 3 months post-op - both in terms of pain or mobility 😪 My Surgeon tells me that in another year or so, (yes you read this right, another YEAR or so) I won’t know myself in that I will feel soooo good. Funny that not one medical professional mentioned a whole year++ before, isn’t it?! Plus I have also been told now that the people who sail through it are the exception, not the rule! Every day a different story, they must think we forget what they initially told us. My heart goes out to you for your inability to tolerate any drugs other than Tylenol. I’m not a junkie but I don’t know how I would survive the mind-numbing pain without the oxycodone etc that I am still taking- albeit in smaller doses now. I’m still not able to go back to work, and to be honest I think the only thing that keeps me halfway sane is the knowledge that I really had no choice as I was virtually a cripple before I had the operation. I’m still a cripple but hey, now I can look forward to the fact that it’s only going to be another year (or so) before I can tap dance on the ceiling. Until I remember that there are 365 days in a year 🤣

Not providing adequate pain relief is unreasonable. Take what you need in addition to narcotics, but don’t forget OTC meds and therapeutic marijuana. Space it all out if you’re not getting enough- complain!!!
@simplysmt2 ай бұрын
I had the same results with pain. Opioids weren’t an option for me. And the amount of medication was not enough! Good luck with your recovery.

Don't do it. It's a brutal painful operation that shortens your lifespan by 20%! Do some research! I think in the future people will look back on 'knee replacement' the same way we look at Frontal Lobotomies in the 1970's: Medieval crazy medicine that doesn't help anyone! Don't do it!

@@DrODonovan l wonder if you can give me quick advice, just to help us make a decision, no legal come back complications for you, as we are not obligated to act on your advice, so please don’t hold back on your response. I know you will be busy but l hope you can help urgently. Spouse is going into hospital in 24 hours for knee replacement, do you think it wise when he has prostrate cancer not yet treated but procedures such as MRI scan, bone scan, needle biopsy indicate T2 MO MO, not in bones or outside prostrate small but gleeson score 4+4=8 and grade 4 on the Cambridge grading. Out of 21 needle biopsy samples taken, 1 core had the cancer in it. Husband is 78 years old, Cancer urology surgeon won’t operate but plans hormone and radiotherapy treatment but insists that the knee operation should not be cancelled and rescheduled until after the cancer treatment. The knee replacement is for wear and tare, not arthritis or cancer of the knee. Concern is if treatment is given for cancer perhaps in a month or two at most, will it stop the healing of the knee and cause knee problems long term? My husband was inclined to cancel the knee surgery but told my the cancer nurse specialist not to do so as plenty of time to treat the cancer after the knee surgery. As a knee doctor or surgeon, what is your opinion about cancer treatment, radiotherapy and hormone therapy being started after recent knee replacement ? Thank you, please advise?

I would like to ask a question for my mum as she has been referred for a knee replacement 8 years ago and last week again however she cannot take a decision as she is diabetic and 65 years old. Could you please suggest if she should go for the knee replacement if she is diabetic, 65 years old, she’s on insulin and she had steroid injections in the knee 3 times in the last 10 years. Please suggest/advice? Would be really appreciated. If u have any question please let me know.

I am 2 weeks out from my surgery, yes very painful but your mom needs to understand it will only get worse, she should not wait. Listen to her Surgeon. They know what they’re doing and this surgery is done all the time. Her diabetes I’m sure they are aware of and will obviously take into consideration. I’m 62 and so happy it’s over! Good Luck, she will be fine.🙏

I'm in my hospital room at this very moment. 🇺🇸 missouri. Total knee replacement. For me...I've been in severe pain constant pain. Pills and shots . It's 1a.m. no way to sleep. At this point I wish I wouldn't have had it done. But I'm told in few weeks I'll be thinking of have the other replaced. But at this moment (surgery was at 10am ..2 hours) I wish I'd just continued with the pain I had.

Had a total knee replacement almost 6weeks ago. One week in hosp. Three weeks in a rehab facility. Im at home now. I'm still in severe pain off and on and am still using narcotic meds every 4-5 hrs. This has been theWORST TIME OF MY LIFE, CAN'T STAND WHEN PAIN HITS ME! NOT DOING THIS EVER. EVER AGAIN. I'll use a wheelchair if needed. Hospital experience in Ontario is horrible and horrific! Nohelp, understaffed, halls andfloors were filthy! HEALTHCARE INONTARIO NEEDS MORE FUNDING!! NOT. MY. CANADA!!!

My feelings exactly about Ontario. Waited 18 months to see an Orthopedic Surgeon with no surgery for a few more months. I ended up going to Southern California and having assessment and surgery within 5 weeks. Had an excellent experience and a fabulous outcome! Have recently returned to southern California (Palm Springs) for my knee and am already scheduled for surgery in under 4 weeks. What most Canadians don’t know is that certain hospitals like the Eisenhower Group have excellent Canadian bundle packages that cover every expense including nurse & physio appoints to your residence (we’re renting a house) followed by physiotherapy sessions at a nearby clinic. It’s also a much nicer place to recover (sunny, not too hot, attractive surroundings, etc.) than in cold, snowy, slushy, Ottawa! The medical expenses are used as tax deductions. Eisenhower campus in Ranch Mirage have beautiful up to date facilities & very modern, ORs and excellent surgeons … they even offer free valet parking for patients and family members. Other well known US hospitals offer Canadian Bundle packages as well!

Wow, my father was an iron worker and I grew up in states but ended up in Ontario from car accident, only reason the surgeon did surgery was because I teared up when he touched my knee after three years of waiting!! If I known about that health bundle thing I would've went back to New York at the hospital I was in during college college! I just had my tkr surgery5 days ago been living with pain for 3 years from it and am now addicted to Percocet for pain control! Don't start physio until new year from Xmas holiday!! Wish I saw this post a year ago!! Pains ok not to bad but only if I take the pills, without anything it still hurts slot maybe after couple months I can reduce them! I just want to walk without any help! Hurt to much to step before now it's better but bending hurts and I hear clicking not sure if okay, I'm going to be 55 soon so hopefully it'll be fine, I love walking just not in freezing temperatures that Ontario frequently has in winter. Another week before my first physiotherapy appointment!! I was only in hospital overnight and still have many questions about movements but can't ask until next week, trying not to stay still but my house is tiny!

How do you recover from Total Knee Replacement when it's been 3 years and yet the knee stays in pain and can't walk w/o assistance even going through 12 weeks of physical therapy but when you got doctors who really just messed up your knee and your total life is just messed up because of this! I never recovered even after 3 years of pain, hell n agony!
