I was diagnosed with Reactive Hypoglycemia over 40 years ago. When I have low blood sugars, I am NOT hungry, I am shaky and sometimes even disoriented. The real magic to keep sugars fairly stable is to BALANCE carbs with protein and fats and fiber. If I only eat banana and oatmeal, I'm going to have low sugars probably. BUT I throw some protein powder and chia seeds in there and have a couple of chicken sausages on the side, and voila...no low sugars.

Damn, I had to stop the video because I was feeling like my brain's going to apoptosizise itself :-] Personally I am one of those who sometimes get the shakiness and feelings of fainting, and usually get the cravings and very hungry post high carb/simple sugar meals. So I just eat low carb during the day and that helps a ton. On the other side, a bunch of people seem to be doing very well with oats or so for their breakfast. I'd prefer the latter if I had a choice, but it is what it is. Love and strength, Thomas

Sadly, I can't oats just casually due to my binge eating disorder, as well as other grains because I severely overeat them to the point of eating the entire bag, putting myself deep into a caloric surplus everytime. I currently feel that the only "starchy carb" sources I can really eat normally are whole-wheat sliced bread or whole-wheat tortillas, in which I eat together with a fattier protein source such as meat or cheese, because then I somehow tend to not overeat it, because the protein and fat seems to tell me that now I've eaten enough for now, while eating a plain carbohydrate-rich grain meal such as oats just makes me a bottomless pit once I start eating them. I think I might be a hyper-responder to the satisfaction of eating grains, which is why I really can't eat them in their plain form without severely overeating. But either way, it's interesting how we react individually to different foods. Thank God that I at least don't have binge cravings for candy, cakes, and ice cream, which are far worse and far more expensive than plain oats 😁

I have been eating oatmeal nearly every day for 35 years, oatmeal with raisins, cinnamon, flaxseed, mixed berries. My go-to, for high energy workouts.i got sucked into the carnivore and ketogenic diets last summer. My cholesterol shot up to heights I had never seen before. The reason I did this is because I do not produce enough platelets. Which is an autoimmune disease. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism at 39 and thrombocytopenia at 63. It freaked me out. You know the story, carbohydrates cause disease. Any diet where you have low energy and you have to drag yourself to work out, sucks. As soon as I went back to eating whole foods, plant based. And enough meat to get my protein levels good. I felt like an animal again, as Arnold would say. I just got my blood work back yesterday. Platelets were 15,000, still very low. My doctor wanted me to go back to the hospital for treatment that did not work the year before. So I said, fuck that. Another thing is that doctors really do not know much about nutrition. I know far more than my doctor on the subject. I try to find my own solutions to any health issues I encounter. By the way, I have an elite level of cardiovascular fitness, I lift and am quite strong. I listen to people like Laine, Peter Attia, and Andrew. I like to say, how many centurion carnivores do you see. I just saw a KZbin video on Jack Lalaine. Awesome. Eat like a champ, not a chump. Buy the way, I doctor followed up with me yesterday, I told I told her, I feel quite well. We discussed my blood work, and she said, "Your cholesterol is excellent, total cholesterol, I believe 3.25, ldl = 1.74 hdl = 1.22 triglycerides = 0.84 total cholesterol/ ratio = 2.7 , she was very happy at these numbers and how I reduced them. Be very careful who you listen to. I listen to the people who have PHDs in their field. Laine, I believe in science and the importance of studies. Long reply, but very important, get your nutrients, you will not on these restrictive ways of eating.

No one ever mentions quantity. Like, an entire bowl of oatmeal and a whole banana is too much for me (smaller female), and I might feel icky after just from over consuming. But a proper portion with some, not all, the banana, plus most people into healthy eating habits would usually have some source of protein in that sitting too, egg whites, or some whey protein in the oatmeal, I’d feel good and energized for quite a while after. I mean- all these factors matter . 🤷‍♀️

It is true that oatmeal and banana by itself will spike your blood glucose, especially if consumed on an empty stomach. This is why I always add some protein and fat to it in the form of Greek yoghurt and nuts and seeds. If you want to improve your glucose response further, make oatmeal with steel cut oats, which slows down the rate at which the glucose hits the blood stream and also swap the banana for apples, strawberries or blueberries. And if that's still not enough, go for a brisk walk after eating - this will eliminate any significant blood sugar rise. With diabetes rates on the rise, I think it is important to pay attention to your blood sugar responses, but there's nothing inherently wrong with eating either oatmeal or bananas.

I'm not even a doctor and I find it frustrating that so many non medical people feel like they have insulin resistance figured out when there is not even a general consensus among medical doctors

This is great. I lost my first 63 pounds eating oats daily in the morning. Guess my scale and tape measure lied

I remember in med school they showed us the case studies of all the people who got diabetes from oats and bananas. If only we could've reached them sooner....

Apob is the actual indicator for heart disease. Not ldl necessarily. Though yes apob is on ldl, but ldl that have less apob have no issues with heart disease, only the higher apob is correlated.

Oatmeal and protein with milk. My 5/7 breakfasts! Fills me up. Take good dumps. Feel satiafed until after my workout at lunch time. Also oatmeal is much less expensive than cereal and other processed trash.

There's a video of Dr Berry"s that makes oatmeal out to be poisonous. I'd like to watch a reaction video to that. Anyhoo, I just came across your channel and really enjoy it. Thanks!
