Vertical videos and blurred backgrounds (wherever there's blank space) are a sin, they're pretty terrible and irritating. Even if you want to watch them in “vertical” mode. For some reason; people assume you're either on mobile, or are comfortable with those types of (squished) videos, never understood why.

The idea you shouldn't take a bath after giving birth is cause things can be torn and your uterus is an open wound where the placenta was. If you take a bath in dirty water it can cause infections. However if your water is clean its probably fine and showers also work.

You want to hear the side of the kid who needs glasses? That was me. My "normal" was that things far away looked fuzzy, and I thought that was how everybody saw things. When the other kids in my class said they could see things like individual leaves on trees, I thought they were lying. They lied about everything else, so why not that? No headaches, at least not at age 7. I couldn't see what was written on the board (yellow chalk on green, a horrible combination) so my workaround was to break the lead on my pencil so that I could use the pencil sharpener at the front of the room. While I was there I memorized as much of the board as I could. Eventually it clicked on my mother what I meant by complaining that the teacher "wrote too light" and I got glasses. And holy bananas, I *could* see leaves on trees!
@SkyFyre2435
@SkyFyre2435 Ай бұрын
Another one of those kids here. I realized my vision had gotten worse, though. I also have ADHD, so for years I was always seated in the front row of the classroom. It wasn't until I was trying to read the board while standing in the back of the classroom that I realized I couldn't see it. My parents didn't believe me, though. Then one day I was going somewhere with my friend and her mom was driving us. I don't remember what the context was, but she asked us to help her look for a street sign because she wasn't familiar with the area we were in. I told her I couldn't see them and she thought I was just being silly and sarcastically said, "You need glasses, then." And I told her, "Yeah, I do, but Mom and Dad don't believe me." At the same time, I was having really bad headaches basically every day. Mom even took me to the chiropractor, where she let them "adjust" my neck. Which, of course, didn't help. It wasn't until after my friend's mom and some of my teachers told them I probably need glasses that Mom finally decided to book an appointment with the optometrist. It had been years since I last went. Got glasses the next day and I could actually read street signs without having to be right in front of them. My headaches became far less frequent, too. The ADHD diagnosis was a whole 'nother story. I was diagnosed in 2nd grade after my 1st grade teacher suggested I get tested because I showed a lot of signs of it (RIP Mrs. Pennock, you were one of my favorite teachers). So I was 7 when I was diagnosed. My grandma had always been one of those people who didn't believe in neurological disorders and thought people were just lazy or wanted attention, and my mom had similar beliefs, though not quite as severe. My Dad is one of those "spare the rod, spoil the child" type of people. They thought they could basically punish the ADHD out of me. I'd be grounded for forgetting my homework, I would get spanked for forgetting to do things I was told to do. They never got me any kind of behavioral counseling or anything. They finally decided to have me medicated in middle school, when I was 11. The damage is done, though. I'm 27 and I struggle with basic house chores because I hate doing them. I only ever got punished for not doing them as a child. Never even got a "good job" or "thank you" when I did do them. My apartment is a mess. I can't afford to see a counselor or therapist because my insurance won't cover it (but ironically, my parents' insurance would've covered it when I was a kid). I struggle to be on time for work. I'm only ever 5 minutes late at the most, but we have a point system and you get a point for clocking in even one second late. The only reason I haven't gotten fired is because I work my ass off while I'm there. It will be a lifetime struggle all because I was never provided the foundation I needed in order to deal with my ADHD. Listen to the experts and listen to your kids, people! Nobody knows everything. Others can provide knowledge that you don't have!

I was the dumbass patient, and I'm NOT proud of it. For a long time last year, I went around with increasing loss of hearing and pressure in my left ear. Being a dumbass, I figured "it's probably just related to a cold", as I'm prone to them. But when it turned into pain, I finally caved and made an appointment with my family doctor for a suspected ear infection. At this point, I had no hearing whatsoever in my ear. Doctor takes me in for a same-day consultation. He listens to my symptoms, looks me in the ear... and promptly diagnoses me with an extreme case of wax build-up. I realize this is a legitimate issue, but at the moment, I felt SO sorry for wasting his time with my dirty ear. Whole thing took five minutes. One visit with the nurse a few days later for a good flush, and a suggestion to invest in a wax prevention ear spray, I had my hearing back and got to witness a rock hard lump of gunk the size of my pinkie-nail pop out of my ear canal. I've been much better about keeping my ear wax free ever since.

i had something like this happen to me but because im an anxious overthinker i was definitely more worried. one night i was rubbing my ears and outta nowhere my hearing was muffled in my left ear and i ended up fixing it my taking a warm shower and just letting the water loosen it. it happened once or twice over the course of a few month before i immediately went and got a wax cleaning spray. one morning the spray wasnt working, and i immediately went in because i was worried (nothing bad just build up) and had my ear flushed out. funnily enough though i did at one point have to go in because the spray wasnt working and i did end up having an ear infection and needed ear drops for a week

My doctor growing up was a prominent surgeon. He notice a problem in his neck and found a growth. Consulting with 2 surgeons, they couldn’t find the growth and refuse to do the surgery. Going to a young surgeon he told him that he would do the surgery on him. The surgery discovered the growth exactly where my doctor predicted it and it was removed. Lab test showed it as benign. This was before more modern detection techniques like ultrasound which would have been helpful.

13:48 Funny(?) story, I eliminated that disease from my list of potential worries while trying to decide if I needed to go to the doctor about all those symptoms he listed to an extreme degree, because I have never been to Africa and found it extremely unlikely I could have picked it up from any classmates from any African countries since most of them I didn’t hang out with. So that was out of the question. I also eliminated gastroenteritis because of how long my symptoms had continued. Eventually I was down to 4 possibilities and just hoped for the least bad one… hemorrhoids (which don’t really explain everything but I also have IBS that might explain the other problems). It wasn’t the infectious one (C. difficile), or colon cancer… it was a textbook case of aggressive ulcerative colitis. I usually hung out with other Americans and Southeast Asian students, since almost everyone from African countries was studying geology for mining instead of environmental studies.

Allergies to water DO exist. They are EXCEEDINGLY RARE, but they do exist. IIRC, one woman would break out in hives while bathing herself, to the point that she could only stand to sponge bathe herself once a month and she would still have rashes that would last for hours afterwards. IIRC, she drank Diet Coke.

You can cause yourself to need glasses from rubbing your eyes!

My question about the last story is, why wouldn't they just test the patient for Lyme disease? It would have saved everyone a whole lot of grief and saved the healthcare system the cost and hassle of the extra security requirements. Sometimes patients and their families are correct. It happens far more often than many doctors think. If they were actually informed every time they misdiagnosed a patient, they may learn to listen to their patients a bit more often.

Finally went to a rheumatologist and didn't give my suspicion that it might be fibro. He exams me and says "so have you ever heard of fibromyalgia?" My family had been giving me a hard time about my suspecting that for the three months I spent trying to find out why I had started having the pain and fatigue and other related symptoms. Getting that diagnosis and getting to tell them that guess what, I was right made the hell they and the condition had put me through not totally worth it but just a little bit.

Story #5, I too needed glasses but didn’t know it. I was in the 5th grade and my teacher quite actually bullied me, during our math time, she had put me at what was called the “special kid table” which were children that had learning/genetic disabilities. It was in the back of the class with our teacher aid. We used mini whiteboards and expo markers (I’m allergic to expos…didn’t know it). Well! One day she called me out, said “read the problem on the board and tell me the steps” I was squinting and she thought I was being funny and said well if you can’t see walk up here until you can. I did. I was maybe 3 feet from the board by the time I could read it. She told my mom the same day that I need to get my eyes checked. My mom thought I didn’t need glasses because my elementary school always did hearing and vision tests that I always passed….anyway, took me to the optometrist the next day and those papers you read off the smallest line you can- yeah I couldn’t even see the big a** E at the top. My mom said “yes you can!” And I said “no I really can’t”. Yeah. I needed glasses big time. I’m 24 now and use my glasses/contacts but I actually have an appointment tomorrow to see about lasik, I so hate wearing glasses and my contacts are daily’s (can’t wear extended wear) so…that’s annoying. Haven’t been able to have cute long nails in so long. Fingers crossed I’m a candidate for lasik!

I totally relate to the kid from the glasses story towards the 9min mark. My mom essentially did the same thing to me. I had been having trouble seeing for as long as I could remember. My mom however, always dismissed this & thought I was faking because 'I thought glasses were cool'. It was the 90s! Glasses. Were. Not. Cool. It took my 4th grade teacher talking to my mom about me needing them that FINALLY prompted her to take me in. She was dismissive the entire time saying things like, "I can't see why she needs glasses! She's only 9 & no one in our family has needed them this younge". Or "she just wants them because of Harry Potter". But low & behold! I freaking needed glasses. It was so irritating & embarrassing to have her be so dismissive that my teacher had to bring it up. She could be like that, but that was the worst case of it I can remember.

Ok story 11. My God! First, not an MD but I'm pretty sure you can't be allergic to something that your body is 70% composed of. But even if you are, their fix was to let him drink sprite (which is favored carbonated WATER) and sweet tea (which is highly sugary flavored WATER). 🤦 so apparently his "water allergy" is only applicable with pure water? And why not unsweet tea? At least he would have a small chance of not getting diabetes that way. Jeez.

Doctors hate it if you Google your symptoms. I have lots of doctor family and friends and they are constantly talking about Dr Google and what their patients have come in with.

Then they should probably learn to listen to their patients' symptoms. I've seen doctor after doctor after doctor, and none of them could diagnose me until I researched my own symptoms and brought a list of possibilities that I pushed for tests for. Now, I finally have the diagnoses I need.

Honestly most doctors are not very competent. I'm sure a lot go in caring deeply, and trying to do their best to help people and make a difference, but the long hours and the insane patient loads, mean they can't see each patient for long, which means they don't spend enough time or thought on you, because they need to get through so many people per day, and they wouldn't be able to see everyone if they gave everyone the attention they deserve. Then they get worn down by that and go into auto pilot mode, like most of us do at work, and that leads to there being very few truly good doctors. It's horrible, but at the same time, understandable. After all, how many of us are giving 100% at work at all times? I'm pretty sure most of us are just trying to get through the work day so we can go home. Same goes for most drs. Drs are expected to always give 100%, without us remembering they are only human. On the flip side, nothing is more important than your health, and that's one of the few things you want someone to always put 100% of their effort into. It's a complicated issue to fix, since the main issue, aside from human error, is a shortage of Drs and nurses. I have some medical issues, and at 34, I've likely seen close to 100 different drs, Bette new zealand and Australia,, from GP's to specialists in a few different fields. Out of all of them, I think I've only ever met 4 truly good, attentive doctors, who clearly gave my case some thought between visits. One even called to check up and see if my medication was helping. I've met maybe two who were just horrible. Definitely incompetent and doing more harm than good, and an alarming amount who have very little understanding of the medication they are prescribing, no clue about long term pain medication, or how addiction works. I Have no issues with addiction thankfully, but I am on a couple of medications that are easy to fall prey to. I have experience with helping addicts, and an up close and personal experience with my biological father being an opioid addict. My mum's education on addiction, how it feels, the warning signs and how to respond to them, are what I credit for avoiding addiction, despite being on opioids since I was 14. She was worried that a susceptibility to addiction may be generic, and i believe she was right. I felt like I felt the first signs of it quickly, but thanks to her education, I immediately recognized what it was, and could alter how I was taking it to avoid the issues getting any worse. It's easy if you know what to look for before it becomes a problem. Much harder if you lack that knowledge, and it becomes a huge issue before you even know you need help. Not one of any of the near 100 drs I've seen, not even the seven or so pain specialists, gave me accurate or useful information on addiction. Not even when giving opioids to a 13 year old. So if you stuck through the ramblings of a woman who is not a Dr, but has spent enough time at hospitals and with drs to have a pretty realistic understanding of what to expect when you are dealing with them, my advice to you is that if you're prescribed any medication that has the potential to be addictive, do some serious googling about the first signs of addiction, and how to avoid becoming addicted. Usually it's to stop taking the medication for a while. That's not always possible if it's a medication you absolutely need to take, but if you go in educated, you are a lot less likely to become addicted. My trick is, every time I go to take a medication that's addictive, I ask myself, am I taking this for the right reasons? Am i taking just because I want it, or maybe it off habit, or maybe because of a reason the medication want prescribed to you, like some help dull your emotions, or make you sleepy, but unless that's what it is prescribed to you for, it is always a risk, every time you do it, that you'll become addicted. If you do that consistently, it's not a matter of if you will become addicted, it's when. So ask yourself if you're truly in so much pain you're miserable from it and I need it. (Using pain medication for it as an example) It's actually pretty easy for your mind to make you want to take it, and That's often what gets people. They don't know to question it, to question their motivations for taking it, they just take it when they think they should. Then before they even know what's happening, they can't stop. Also, always do your own research. My mum had a rare medical issue that required brain surgery. We were told it was inoperable, and that every year was a dice roll. 1/3 chance she's fine 1/3 chance she's left with some kind of brain damage, 1/3 chance she dies. After two more brain bleeds, we move to Australia, where we learn there are surgeons there capable of doing the surgery, they do it, and she lives, with slight, minimal brain damage in the form of mild short term memory loss. Only noticeable if you spend a lot of time with her. So if drs tell you nothing can be done, keep looking. Check out of your area, state, or even country. You really do need to manage your own health. Listen to the advice n of your drs, but also, do your own research. Seek a second opinion. But also, try to help yourself. Yes there's medication for many conditions, but almost all of them are damaging in the long run. Sometimes you need the medic action from drs, and that's okay. But often, you can end up taking less of it if you apply natural alternatives too. If you eat well, sleep well, and tweak your diet. I'm on medication for some stomach issues I have, that being on my other medications for decades has given me. I take about a 1/8 dose if I look after my health and have aloe Vera juice daily. Sometimes small, but consistent tweaks to your diet or health or self care cab make a huge difference and can drastically change the amount of medication you need. Will it cure you? Probably not. Will it make you more comfortable, less reliant on medication, and slow the progression of whatever you have? Probably. The body is a very powerful tool, when given the proper materials to works with. So many people are pretty die hard when it comes to medical help. The side of natural remedies and avoiding drs, or the side of using medication only to treat everything, no matter how minor. The truth, in my experience, is somewhere in the middle. Both have value, and I believe both are needed to be healthy, and stay healthy as long as possible. Do your own research, don't ignore medical professionals. Listen to their advice, but also think for yourself. If you think a Dr is wrong, ask them to explain their reasoning to you. Don't just completely ignore them. If you still disagree with their thinking, seek a second opinion. It does very little harm to take the time to see another Dr. It could be your life if you completely ignore them and you're wrong though. Is it worth the risk?

New research has found you can get stem cells from menstral blood and its actually easier than other methods. So that ick reaction, is uncalled for. You might not like periods but they are basic human biology.

There’s a lot of good doctors but unfortunately I have to be that ‘I am very smart’ patient because the amount of completely unrelated reasons for my A&E visits given to me by triage doctors is ridiculous. I know that I’ve been right because when I tell my actual GP what has happened, what I was told, and what my theory was… He’s always frustrated and amazed at the bollocks I’m told and and agrees that I was correct. He gains nothing from being a yes man as I live in a country with free healthcare. My latest dumb diagnosis was ‘mystery viral infection and you reacted poorly. The reality was, I had an untreated thyroid condition which puts me at high risk of hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar). When you don’t have enough blood sugar, your body can’t make cortisol. I hadn’t slept and your body makes cortisol whilst you are asleep. I also take corticosteroids which support my adrenals as an off label treatment for POTS. I had also taken my adhd medication too late in the day which affects your adrenaline/noradrenaline, also adrenal related. I’d asked for an ambulance (through types messages and noises as I couldn’t speak) and managed to communicate to them that I needed hydrocortisone and to follow my steroid card. I knew I was having a crisis, even though I don’t have Addisons disease. They did so and I started to recover. I was told by hospital that my blood pressure was too high for a crisis. The guy telling me all this was likely given a 30min general idea of adrenal crisis I swear, because there’s a kind of uncommon presentation where your blood pressure shoots up then crashes, which I had. My BP is usually around 110/60 at best, usually lower even with three blood pressure medications. My blood pressure was around 124/90ish which is ideal for most but the highest mine has ever been and felt horrible. I’m a mixed bag of random technicalities, but no one listened to me but the paramedics. I was just a dumb patient with nothing wrong. I’m on thyroxine now. I’m an autistic person who can is happy to be corrected to update my knowledge, but it was all bullshit…

Unfortunately it’s a really big problem with doctors not giving endometriosis diagnoses when they would be needed. It’s more often male doctors not understanding what normal period pain should feel like but female doctors do also contribute to this problem.
