My dad became a JW for a short time when I was a teenager, and one of the reasons my parents got divorced, besides my mom cheating, was my dad telling my mom that if one of his kids needed a blood transfusion, he wouldn't sign off on it, don't worry he's normal now lol

Hearing about the situation JW has with blood transfusions and failing to stop predators in their Kingdom Halls from molesting children tells me this is one religion to be actively avoided.

I thought this was gonna be more about folks who thought certain symptoms were for something life-threatening, but turned out to be nothing. Instead it’s mainly just patients with some form of mental illness.

About 30 years ago, I was having episodes where I was convinced I was a powerful warmage, and was embroiled in a war between our side of time's loop and creatures on the opposite side. They used huge robot scorpions, with terrible weapons. I was managing to fight them off, but i was worried they would eventually get past my defenses and everyone would be in danger. They discovered that my thyroid gland was shutting down from an autoimmune problem, and the lack of thyroid hormone was causing a psychotic break, the metabolic symptoms being interpreted as "damage" from the robot scorpions. It was a near thing. My doctor misinterpreted my symptoms and told me to step away from the fork. So u went to another doctor for a second opinion. The new doc gave me a couple of simple tests. He pressed his thumb into the side of my calf, then letting go and timing how long it took the divot to fill back to normal. It should be seconds. With me, about 3 minutes. He asked if there was s family history of thyroid disease. I told him my mother was hypothyroid and my father had Graves' Disease. He very theatrically demanded his nurse to draw blood. He had me under a nuclear scan in two days, and on thyroid meds before the week was done. My head cleared very quickly after that, no more robot scorpions, and i felt better. That's when he told me that it was a good thing I went to see him when I did. If I'd waited another month, he would have had to put me in the hospital to restart my metabolism. And if I'd waited _two_ months, all he could have done would be _to make me comfortable until the end._ That scared the creeping crud out of me. I've been perfectly fine since, but I look back on that time and shudder. Just because one of my glands was dying, I was going nuts until _I_ would have died, without treatment from the doctor who thought I was just fat and needed to lose weight to fix the problem. Needless to say, I switched doctors immediately.

I will never NOT have extreme paranoia surrounding surgical paralysis & anesthesia. The thought of being wide awake without numbing during surgery, unable to move or speak is genuinely terrifying. Even at the dentist for big operations, I repetitively plea to make sure I'm actually down under...

When i smoked a lot of weed, i thought there were microphones everywhere. I'm right. There are. But this was Trueman show level. And everyone was watching me and my family were "handlers". Glad i dont smoke weed anymore.

So I'm watching this and mentally running through names of friends because i am just CERTAIN that i knew somebody who had dealt with major paranoia but i just cant quite put my finger on exactly who. And then, oh! Wait, I... hm. Thats me. I'm the one who is the diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic and I'm a fucking idiot. ANYWAY the one that put me in the hospital most recently was an absolute nightmare. i was absolutely terrified because some powerful and secretive group, with unknown intentions, was able to spy on my life through my own eyes. Anything I would look at was also looked at by them. Anything I saw was seen by them. Really a great experience, 10/10 would recommend except I wouldn't *because it fucking sucked.*

@@grmpEqweer An appeal to nature fallacy is using nature to prove something is good. I'm not doing that. Learn what you're using as an accusation.
