ASICS Gel Nimbus 26 vs. 27 | Which to Choose?

Just got a Nimbus 26 moving over from Kyano. Got $50USD off as it was on special. I’m a 51yr old beginner and this will be my only running shoe for a while.

I wil stick with the 26. I like the gel and comfy cushion. I will also take advantage of the lower prices.

The guy is mixing it up here, the 27 is clearly more cushioned /softer in the heel than 26. I tried them both in the store today, no doubt.

I have almost 500 miles on my Nimbus 26. I’d say the life span for running is about at the 400 mile mark. I now just use them to run errands and everyday wear. I am still deciding if I want the Nimbus 27 or the Novablast 5 next.

This week I got my 26 first pair of ASICS first pair of Max cushion shoes, I can hardly believe it, so comfortable, I got them on sale for $110, by the time the 27’s go on sale I’ll probably be ready for my upgrade, after a week of wearing them I think I’m hooked

Nimbus hasn’t had any significant upgrades foam wise, but I will prefer it comfort wise over any other recover shoes today

I had to go for the WIDE in the 26 because of the toebox. Will get the normal width in the 27 🎉

Just did my first run in the 27’s (6.5miles) and I loved them. The upper feels similar to the 26, and the midsole is like a mix of the 25 and 26. If you pick up the pace it does have some bounce to it

I wear size 12 and for me probably the most important factor on max stack shoes is weight. I really don't want to wear anything over 11 ounces / 310 grams so the Nimbus is out. That's why I wish Asics made the Cumulus more competitive (e.g. outsole) as it could be a great lighter weight 40 mm daily trainer. 40 mm done right is enough for most runners, after that it's just extra weight.

Is the new one's fabric made of a better material? My 26's started to disintegrate around the achilles area after just 2 months of wear - just normal walking, no running. If that isn't upgraded I don't think I will be buying either. That is just to expensive for a shoe that I that poorly constructed.

What about the grip of the v27 vs v26 ? The Gel-Nimbus 26 has an amazing grip that worked marvelously also on raining runs that felt like a high cushioning Puma Velocity Nitro 3 for me . Thanks.

Would love to know the grip too.. currently using puma shoes in my rotation because I don't have to worry about grip in wet surface.. but really like nimbus 27 based on this video.. just curious about its grip

@doctorsofrunning what’s another shoes that has the comfort and softness of Nimbus 27 but a touch more bounce/forward propulsion. I think Invincible 3 have that but sometimes it can be a bit unstable at ankles area. Thanks in advance

Does anyone hope or think that ASICS will jump off the high stack bandwagon and bring back lower stack shoes as well as bring back visible gels in the heel and forefoot (if only a little gel) again? With the success of the GT 2160/Kayano 14 ‘dad shoes’ lifestyle reiterations I’m hoping this may be a call to ASICS that ppl like ASICS for being ASICS and we don’t need every shoe to be like HOKA.

I'd get a good pair of sturdy work boots that tie at the ankle to take pressure off feet. Get something with a shank. Cat Colorado maybe? The extra weight of boot should make driving less strenuous too.

Am I crazy but the gel nimbus doesn’t feel soft to me. To me a soft shoe is something like Nikes invincible run or new balance sc trainer v1 v2.( haven’t tried the sc3) mizono Neo vista .. to me the gel nibus feels relatively firm

novablast 5 is more of an allrounder. nimbus is geared more towards recovery/slow.

What is a suggested ASiCS marathon shoe? I am currently training in the Superblasts and they start to fail me around mile 12 to 13.

If it needs to be Asics then maybe the Glideride Max or Novablast 5. If not then maybe the Ride series, Ghost Max series, 1080v13, Glycerin series, Balos. Brooks is firmer, NB is softer generally speaking. Neo Vista is soft. There's also the Topo Specter v2. If your budget is higher, you can check out the plated options SC Trainer and Cielo X1, the plate will probably help go the distance.

Most running shoes look ridiculous tbf. Could be just me being European but most Hoka shoes for example, i'd only put them on my feet if i am in some forgotten trail. Saucony is the same 💩, ultra vibrant vomits.
