He said "The Doctor can be young in appearance but the actor should be old enough that you believe he could be king of his own Universe" Of the many things that makes this so iconic and special this scene really leaves him with egg on his face. 1 of the reasons Matt was Cast was because he embodies an old man in a young man's body perfectly and this is the best example of that. Matt's biggest inspiration was Patrick after all. As old school as a Doctor can be and known for a sillier side than Hartnell. The Doctor travels the universe and picks companions he can see it all vicariously through because The Doctor wants to see things that put even him in a state of Child-like wonder. As much as 10 and 11 mean to me it was refreshing that 12 was more of a Classic Who Doctor in age but he still puts his own spin on let's say the Doctor's "Timey Wimey " side. @@Monsicorn if you think that the reason why the heads fall off is cause the Doctor can't get rid of his memories - he knows that by doing this he will end that planet but part of him wants the planet to take it all in and unload his mind of what he has seen and all the secrets that he knows - such a big collective of experiences in his mind - he not only says you can "take it" , but he says you can "have it, have it all" , like he wants to get rid of all this as it is a heavy burden to carry. If you see that way, the way the doctor drops his head is an act of resignation and acceptance that the burden that he carries it is only his to carry - no parasite planet can take it from him - it is not all bad, it is not all sad and we seen during his adventures the ways that he found not only to cope but also to find unique joy - , but it is heavy nonetheless - heavy to a point that his head drops once you seen that it is not longer being taken away from him by the parasite planet . Perhaps in this view, this last scene does not long kills the moment for you - but adds even more intensity :)

“I have lost things you will never understand” I think that has to be one of the most powerful lines I’ve heard. Everyone can relate to it, it’s not unique, but at the same time none of those billions of experiences are the same. Just memories that will never be full comprehended but at the same time can all be empathised with. And that’s the irony of the sentence that drives it home for me. “No one can understand it, but everyone can relate to it”

There are very different interpretations of that. For me, it means exactly what he said, the Doctor has lived through the wonderful and terrible, seen things that are incomprehensible, and experienced loss on a cataclysmic scale. It drives home his alien-ness for me, not his relatability.

Eccleston was the most obvious tbh, from the very first episode you can see the pain of the war. He's violent, so much more-so than Tennant and Smith in the 50th Bad Wolf refers to 10 as the man who regrets, and 11 as the man who forgets While i cant say it as a rhyme, 9 was the man who searched. He was the aftermath of the War doctor losing his memory of the events other than the decision to use The Moment, he had just regenerated out of the horror of the war and the decision he had to make and was lost even more-so that War doctor was, the entire story really was him trying to find his way again, which lead into 10 having found himself once more and thus feeling the impact of his actions even harder and 11 having suffered the emotional pain so long simply tries to forget.

The 11th doctor is so emotional. He is by far my favorite doctor. People think that he's just a big goofball or a child. His childishness is just a façade. The 11th doctor is scary and he is a monster and he is in pain all the time. Have you seen him when he is angry? It's terrifying. He has lost so much, seen too much. He is lonely. He used to have a family and now all of it is gone because he had killed everyone he once new. It's so sad and terrifying and I just love him so much.

Yeah, after losing Rose, Donna, Amy, and Rory and the Year That Never Was and all the reminders of the Time War and what he lost there he just wanted to hide from all the pain. So he grasped hold of that childish joy and giddiness that he always felt with Rose when they were exploring and adventuring with everything he had. But it didn't really work. All that pain was still there. Probably why when he regenerated again he ended up as Capaldi's doctor, jaded and kinda bitter.

He establishes a solid relationship with Clara unlike others, when he loses his companies he actually has time to deal with it, he even deals with his fear of regeneration realizing that even tho he wants to stay everything has its time, and he remembers who he used to be and heals. The doctor is never composed or in order he's just kinda all over the place which makes sense that he never deals with things and just carries them and he doesn't rlly have time to deal with things cause he just changes into a new person who'll soon have new problems.

This is by far my favorite Doctor Who speech. Very powerful. The emotion in Matt's voice and passion in which he delivers it. Masterpiece. It never fails to give me goosebumps and choke me up. I feel people often overlook Eleven, which is a shame. He embodies the very essence of the Doctor. He's whimsical, quirky, fun, kind, chaotic, broken, angry, and even a little dark. He has layers much like the show itself. This speech along with David's 'So much more,' and Peters, 'Can't I just lose', sum up who the Doctor is. A broken tired old man who sacrifices himself time and again for everything and everyone, and he does it alone. Doesn't do it to be thanked. But because it's right. Because it's kind.

@@mr.d6493 Matt Smith has more raw talent than Peter Capaldi. Capaldi was always overly rehearsed, trying too hard to get everything right to the point where he lost authenticity. In some cases, he even committed to a bad idea. I'm still pissed off with him for being a self-righteous hypocrite in the "You let me down!" speech. He undermined a moment that was intended to convey how much he cared about Clara by trying to make her feel even worse about herself than she already did, especially when he snarled "Cut out the whining" right in her face, even though she hadn't said anything whiny throughout his entire rant. Give that scene to John Hurt and it would have been perfect. Smith could just walk onset, do an entire scene in one take, and nail it. The lack of careful rehearsal and overthinking also gave authenticity to everything he said and did. He never looked like he'd practiced it countless times. He looked like he was acting and reacting in the moment instead of coming prepared beforehand. Heck, despite his eccentric mannerisms, you just need to look at Smith's eyes to know that this is a VERY old man in a young man's body. One look could convey the Doctor's age more convincingly than every grey hair on Capaldi's head.

"I saw the birth of the universe, and I watched as time ran out, moment by moment!" that line reminds me of the fandom, and how we view Matt Smith's Doctor. He was our everything for a long time, and when we saw him for the first time in the show, at the very end of The End of Time, we saw the "birth of the universe" so to say. In Christmas 2013, we watched as time ran out for him, moment by moment. until nothing remained for us that night. No time with him and, no space in which he existed. Just us.

I think it’s one of those moments where the Doctor gets a minute to stand back as a spectator rather than an actor, where he gets to properly reflect on what he’s been through up to that point. The doctors slump at the end might just be exhaustion - but I like to think that its not just exhaustion, but almost a sense of disappointment. Throughout the speech, you can see the Doctor crying as he remembers the horrible things that he has both done and beared witness to, the things he knows and the tragedies that he must watch play out. This scene where the parasite feeds on the Doctors memories is almost like a form of attempted suicide, like the Doctor is forlornly hoping that the memories that haunt him will be taken away from him forever, so that he never has to remember them. Alas, the slump is indicative of not only his exhaustion, but the disappointment and acceptance that he has done terrible things and must live with them for the rest of his many lives.
@labadf3 жыл бұрын
I think it's a little bit more than that. I think the Doctor was half-expecting the creature would be able to withstand all that life of sorrow so he wouldn't be the only one bearing it all. And to see his plan working just makes him realize that no creature, other than himself, is able to withstand the burden of such a tragic and almost endless life, and the certainty that, would he choose to end it willingly, then the lives of others would be worse, way worse. So, in a sense, I see it as a call for help, a call for understanding, a call for sympathy. One which he chooses to hide from his friends, and to weaponize against his foes.

Well why Yahya is doing it for for present people to collapse their Future timelines ? He is doing it for himself which is resulting good for some people too who are saving them now to join the three categories because while being in the present the one of the kind creation Yahya has the ability to impact the future which is not even happened! And now there are just few excuses remaining for people who claimed and promised Allah and me and always broke it and they asked the forgiveness which were always given to every person who were facing the torment but this is the lastest chance. For speeches like this, the amazing part isn't so much what gets said, even though it IS good. The thing that makes these kinds of speech transcend is everything around the speech. HOW is it spoken? What is the context? How well does it get delivered? What other factors, if any, are at play? THAT'S the kind of stuff that I look at. This speech to Akhaten ticks pretty much all of my boxes. The Doctor's unimaginable grief and unknowable age is on clear display, as he recounts his tale, making us realize that he may be an alien being, but he's also one of the most human characters on the show. As for context? Clara wanted to see "Something amazing" but ended up encountering a terrified little girl, who was to be used as a sacrifice to this roaming parasite. In order to protect her, all the citizens of the Rings of Akhaten banded together in solidarity, and provided one of the most beautifully haunting songs I've ever heard. Delivery? Hell, you can see the actor putting his all into the role. That single tear does more to humanize him than any plethora of actions taken before. I'd say that the actor wasn't just speaking. I'd say he was legitimately FEELING the scene, feeling the years that the Doctor has fought. This is a bit off topic, but there's a quote in the Eragon books that's a pretty clear Doctor Who reference: "Adrift upon the seas of time, the lonely god wanders from shore to distant shore, upholding the laws of the stars above." And to be quite honest, I think that Lonely God is a perfect title for the Doctor. I mean, think about it: He's this incredibly powerful being that sets himself apart from the rest of the universe by his own choice to protect it. As spoken in this speech, he watched as the universe was born, and watched as it died. In one of the other episodes, Clara is horrified to see the Doctor completely unaffected by Earth's death, referring to herself as a ghost. She doesn't get the big picture: The Doctor has watched ALL the worlds die. By Clara's definition, anyone or anything the Doctor sees is a ghost to him. This leads to the creation of one of the most complex, most pure, most human characters ever put to television, being ripped apart by immeasurable, unknowable grief upon seeing everything around him dying and being born all at the same time.

THE DOCTOR: Kai, what's down there? KAI TOBIAS: A god. LUCIE MILLER: A god? KAI TOBIAS: A god of fear. It comes from beyond. THE DOCTOR: From another universe? KAI TOBIAS: Yes. Another reality, one that is consumed by fear. Its world was destroyed, its universe collapsing. The god had to escape it, and it found a way in. LUCIE MILLER: What, into our universe? How? THE DOCTOR: The wormhole, of course. This entity created it, didn't it? KAI TOBIAS: Yes. THE DOCTOR: It built a singularity bridge. Very impressive. But the physical rules of its own universe and this one are different. So it's been stuck in its little cubby-hole for - how long? KAI TOBIAS: I don't know, its concept of time is different from ours. THE DOCTOR: I knew this wormhole wasn't natural, nor is anything else here, I'll bet. All those sites, perfectly set up for extreme sports, it crafted all those with whatever influence it could manage. It even made an atmosphere. LUCIE MILLER: Why? KAI TOBIAS: Things are intensified when you can hear them. A scream of terror, a cry of fear. LUCIE MILLER: And why is that important? THE DOCTOR: Because that's what this entity feeds off, Lucie. Fear. And if it can get enough of it, it might just be strong enough to break through into our universe. ... THE DOCTOR: Ah, a little bit of fear from you now. You know they're there, don't you, my real fears, the things I don't enjoy, the things I've seen and never want to see again. ERIS: (deep) It is fruitless trying to trick me. You cannot frighten me. THE DOCTOR: We'll see, won't we? Are we ready, Lucie? LUCIE MILLER: Drew? DREW: All set here. LUCIE MILLER: Good to go. THE DOCTOR: Up, up, and away! LUCIE MILLER: Good luck, Doctor. THE DOCTOR: This is quite bracing, actually. Now, Entity, what can I show you? Let's start with evil from the dawn of Time and go on from there, shall we? ERIS: (deep) You can't fool me, Doctor. These things you're showing me, they aren't real, they can't be. THE DOCTOR: I wouldn't make these things up, I couldn't. I saw them all. ERIS: (deep) Impossible. How did you survive? THE DOCTOR: By facing them. You can't deny fear, you can't give in to it, you have to face it. ERIS: (deep) Oh... THE DOCTOR: That's what makes you stronger. That's how I won in the end. ERIS: (deep) Enough, Doctor. Stop this! THE DOCTOR: But I thought you liked fear. ERIS: (deep) Aah ... aah... THE DOCTOR: I thought it tasted good. ERIS: (deep) Aah... THE DOCTOR: What's the matter? Have you fed on too much honeydew? Is the milk of Paradise turning sour? Oh well, if these fears aren't to your liking, let's try some others, shall we? How about this one? (ERIS as the Entity cries out.) ERIS: (deep) No, stop! I'll give you anything you want, Doctor, anything, if you stop. THE DOCTOR: Oh, Kai was right. You can't cope, not when it's real. Well, evil from the past is one thing, but I have seen the future too. ERIS: (deep) Doctor, please. Such pain. Oh, such loss. So many fears. I've seen enough. THE DOCTOR: Wouldn't you like to see what's coming? It scares the living daylights out of me. I wonder what it'll do to you? (ERIS as the Entity cries out.) ERIS: (deep) Don't show me any more, Doctor, please... THE DOCTOR: Oh no, wait. Wait, wait, wait. There's worse than that. There are the things that I am afraid that I might do one day. ERIS: (deep) No ... no ... no...! (Long drawn out cry, then silence.) ... LUCIE MILLER: Doctor? THE DOCTOR: Mm? LUCIE MILLER: Kai fed that thing the worst fears of everybody in this place, the things that people think of when they're about to die and stuff, and he couldn't stop it. But you all stopped it all on their own. (Stops walking.) THE DOCTOR: You want to know what I showed it? LUCIE MILLER: Actually, I'm not sure that I do. It wasn't a trick though, was it? THE DOCTOR: No. Come on. A long way back to the TARDIS. (Walking off again.) LUCIE MILLER: Maybe you're scarier than the monsters. THE DOCTOR: (distant) Lucie? LUCIE MILLER: Coming. (Walking off.) -Phobos

This is maybe my favorite scene in the entire show. Ten will always be my favorite doctor, but this scene, is so moving, so powerful, so beautiful it still brings tears to my eyes.
