As a mental health professional, I would like to comment on several points. I think identifying people who struggle with depression as "ungrateful" is not fair because this is not something they do on purpose. As for the fear discussion, some fears are not easy to "just face" as it takes time and courage. Most of the speakers who were speaking about emotions were coaches and authors. I think including mental health professionals in the video could have made the video more credible. I also thought the acting in the video was very unsuccessful and distracting also. Thank you!
@David-R.
@David-R. 5 жыл бұрын
and how exactly can someone be ungrateful on purpose to begin with?! and why did the word ungrateful offend you? if you listened carefully to the video, rather than your own interrupting thoughts, you would have agreed with everything they said. Where did you get your degree from? just asking? as for fears, did they say " just face them and solve the issues in one day?" You got emotional and you missed the words being said :)

The depression comment is unhelpful and doesn’t encompass the dynamics of life experiences from childhood or evil acts of others cruelty. Try living with narsassistic abuse for instance, forgiving them leaves the victim vulnerable to further abuse. That said I understand the positives of emotion recognition and intelligence. Simplifying depression and calling sufferers ungrateful is far from truth and complex in nature.

There are five general sources of anger: 1. Fear for your own or someone else’s safety (either real or imagined) 2. Loss or threat to your power and control 3. An insult to your pride (the implication that you or someone close to you is substandard) 4. An insult to your self-sufficiency and autonomy (the suggestion that you don’t have the ability to do things on your own) 5. An insult to your self-esteem or status

As Jim Rohn said: Keep guard to the door of your mind, take the information, process it, ponder, and make sure that when you take actions, it's the result of your own decision. So when we watch such a video, let's take what you accept and share that with others. we will grow better. thanks

I feel sad (and that's a legitimate emotion) that this video was so simplistic. It is hard to discuss emotions because doing so generically without any context can be inherently vague. This video sought to explain the meaning of emotions, but in doing so it also oversimplified. There are good reasons why people become locked in certain emotions, and saying, "You just need to let it go, forgive and forget," is taking away the "call to action" that these emotions are there to inspire. We require REASONS to forgive. Conditions must be met. This video ignores such things. It ignores how being angry is a healthier reaction than internalizing a hurt and becoming depressed. Primarily what I object to in this video is that by oversimplifying emotions and separating them from the conditions needed to resolve them, it gives the impression that feelings are essentially just mental games we play in our own head -not meaningful calls for interactions we have with the world around us. Emotions aren't simply there to be explained and cleared from our minds. It MEANS even more when they persist. We are meant to take meaning from the level of an emotion we feel. As I say, this is a hard subject to try to discuss without becoming vague because of lack of context, but consider a person who is cut off in traffic: There could be more than just a reason to "let it go" when that happens. Why do so many people think ultimately we aren't capable of using an emotion to make a change we want to see in the world? What if you were cut off and so you were moved to become a highway patrol officer? Would that be a worse or better example of using the emotion to inspire you instead of simply letting it go. When you oversimplify your emotions and don't listen to your desire to dwell on that emotion a bit, you become ineffectual. It's important to consider that some emotions are based on real interactions with the outside world and therefore require real conditions to be met externally for things to change. I feel this video ignores that interaction with reality.

Your thoughts are very well put. I felt inspired to conduct further research on the action steps beyond understanding what to do with my emotions. I thought this work was very goood to gain understanding of what the feelings of emotions are. Your statement gave me the language to pursue the action steps once I am able to identify the feeling corresponding to emotion. Understanding what is going on mentally when my body responds to emotion has been a journey all it’s own. It takes effort, time, and courage. Now, I’ve been feeling strong and confident enough to create opposing, positive thoughts that are equally true and directly related to the negative counter thought. That is also a journey of insight and deep consideration. I like what you said as a step after next, and I will use some of the vocabulary you expressed to learn more. I encourage you to go back to step one so you can appreciate what this video was meant to do, and did. Then, you would not have to identify with how disappointed you were with this video, but guide others along the path to be as enlightened as you are. This life experience is a practice. We never fully “arrive” at some place, but we get better at moving through life as happy souls. With practice, we have an ease of access to our emotions and the actions to experience mastery.

This stuff about emotional intelligence doesn't always add up to me especially when it comes to controlling emotions. The idea seems to be that those that have trouble controlling their emotions have trouble identifying them, but from what I've seen and personally experienced, that is just not true. There are a lot of people out there that are very good at immediately understanding what they're feeling and why, but have a hard time doing anything about it. Meanwhile, there are people that appear to be good at controlling their emotions but are also hardly in-touch with their own emotions and purposefully neglect attending to them which can lead to communication issues. I have also noticed that while there may or may not be a way to measure or prove something like this, some people just seem to have a deeper and wider range of emotions than others. If you have more emotions in general and those emotions are more complex then it's no wonder you're going to have trouble dealing with and controlling them.

The details of winding down 36 yrs of 3 kids a wolf hybrid prairie dog and lots of stuff w/ clean up memories boxed and the house! And starting an intimidating new career, recovering from the chemical toxic crash of my hair career that I excelled at. Ok this video just saved a lot of time,which is running fast, money, tapped out to the max, for council - therapy,.... thank you very much for your brilliant work. Pausing and replaying many of the speakers I stopped realizing how I was off track, I saw that the minutia of these last tedious details of house and stuff had muddied my cheerful optimistic gratitude based norm to the point of “D” I paused the video to see my offenders thru the lens of life and their actions and reactions were their best. I saw their good and than the lens shift became tears of forgiveness and release for all that floated up into my awareness, wow. I now respect and will honor and be compassionate with others when they are paralyzed with hurt. What a good lesson. What a good video. Thank you again

I don't agree with alot if the labeling they want to call those who have real struggles, but as a person who struggles with anger the best thing is ever heard that helped me with my hanging on to silly anger, why give them free rent in your head, cause it's not hurting that person it's hurting you. As for depression it's sad that so many today see it as a fallacy and to those who do I say be thankful you have never had to feel that pain, to those who battle depression don't lose hope and fight it every day for we, you, us, are truly never alone just please don't let it win

Also - I follow a motivator who says to lose pointless emotions. Emotions are pointless. All of them listed in this video. Not sure how to do that - otherwise I'd be a robot. Lol. So this video is good in explaining the message each emotion is sending. From all this / I say, you can have your emotions but learn why you have them and be better at dealing with them. THAT is the whole idea of this video .

Loneliness means you are disconnected from self!! If you aren’t connected to yourself first then you cannot truly and authentically connect with yourself. You have to build a relationship with self first

let those people wallow in their self-pity. leave them alone in their mental squalor. they have a right to negative emotions, but NOT the right to impose those emotions or moods onto others.

Forgiving is a choice of self will. Being grateful is a choice of self will. If you need therapy, do it. But without those two elements, you will remain stuck, nevertheless, until you choose forgiveness to overflowing and a heart rending gratitude.

In life we must be the contrary warriors to fight against negative emotions!!so we can succeed in life!!Negative thinking is really the dominator on the universe! We,all of us have the power to change the negative feelings,if we believe in ourselves and remain in the present moment!!!

I think this is a great video on emotional intellegence. İ have learned very important material that İ can use/practice in my daily life to understand/transform myself. İ am so very disappointed that OUT OF 40 mins or so, full of very useful information, people only chose to focus on " depressed People being ungrateful ". Such à shame. İ strongly recommend to rewatch this video to digest the material. Great video thanks for your effort.
