Still at this age waking up middle of nights caused by nightmares of exams , fear of failure , competitions, being left behind and alone in this brutual society, and fighting for survival ......never mind remembering all that athority and frequent punishments and harsh beatings by teachers at primary and middle even high schools ..... All at the same time wise words by Krishnamurti about education and bringing up children were being delivered !!! How could we and why we missed that !!!

@vy9076

@Li'l Squeak colonization happened because the brahmins(who used to run gurukuls) had become greedy, many had become kings and hence there was dearth of good teachers. The moghul rule had made sure these gurukuls were not getting funding and thus were left to fend for themselves. You need to study our history first. Of course, the emphasis on non violence had reverse effect
@vy9076
@vy9076 3 жыл бұрын
@Li'l Squeak of course that is also a reason. But we got colonized not just because we were technologically inferior. The British made use of infightings mainly to colonize. Our kings were busy fighting amongst themselves. The Kshatriyas had become weak, Brahmins had become corrupt too. So there was no guiding force then

I am not sure that when I was a child I would ever chose to do maths... Had it been my choice I would have painted and danced and walked in the woods all day long...but since it was required I did it joyfully. And actually I was the best student in maths at school and at Uni. Yet, I never did anything extra. I never felt that it was natural. I felt it was just a cultural necessity, requirement, demand...and it persists till this day as my work is related to maths. I think this concept of 'freedom' is rooted in a belief that our subjects, our standards for exams and our definition of success are natural... and they are not.

I feel it's important for students to have conversations with teachers. To voice their questions, concerns, opinions as peers. Authority is so pointless in teaching. If you have understanding of the subject, the students will naturally respect you. When their is no fear, learning can have efficiency that's born of intense interest and understanding.

Well, when I was in the 11th & 12th class, during the summer holidays - I used to go to my hometown (Panchkula) & stay with my uncle. I had two classes Physics & Chemistry, and there my Physics teacher (Prof R S Sood) - a retired professor would take my classes without any books only the topics or chapter names we would check from the book and then study. There was no starting time for the class or end time, ranged from 90 mins to 150 mins to sometimes 250 mins - it all depended upon that particular day and in b/w Sood sir will give me life lessons (many people came to him for suggestions in their personal lives) & he would discuss those in brief, It was great learning. Interestingly, my physics prof in Engg had the same habit of infusing stories b/w the topics and he would just start his story any moment - midway in the theorems or during problem-solving, it was fun.

Having gone to a school somewhat like this based on alternative philosophies of education, I can say that it’s really not for everyone. There are some children who need a lot of externally enforced structure. However if you are a bit artistic or imaginative or you’re watching this video and thinking I wish I could’ve gone to school like this, it would’ve been a wonderful experience for you. It certainly was for me.

I believe, that children who are challenged, can achieve a lot more at, schools, like these. We are talking about schools, here. At the end of the day, schools achieve two things, giving the students an ability to decide, what stream they should choose, and passing the 12th finals, with grades that will allow the students, to get into the university of their choice.

I agree with you. It is not for everyone. It certianly wasn't for me. My school thought it was letting me be as it was, but what it was really doing was ignoring and neglecting my learning disability and figuring out how to help me. They promoted me every year despite me not catching up on subjects. The other sides like art, theatre and singing were great. But it didn't do anything about the bullying. Didn't give me enough positive reinforcement or find accomodations for me except letting me hold onto a multiplications table chart. It said it accepted all kinds of children but did nothing to stop them from being bullied or give them extra support.

I've been a science teacher for about 20 years now in the US, Costa Rica and Colombia having taught students from all continents. The best students I have seen have been home-schooled, raised on a working farm, or have been live-a-boards on sailboats that have traveled around the world. All these students share J.K.'s vision of being intrinsically-motivated. Sadghuru, a disciple of J.K., mentions that he never wanted anyone teaching his daughter who was educated at one of J.K.'s schools. Finland, also cited for its great educational system, also puts less academic pressure on its students with amazing outcomes. As soon as teaching is forced, the mojo/magic disappears and the student rebels naturally - I have seen it in my own teachings and I have learned to avoid it at all possible costs. I was trained in the discovery learning approach for science - let the students discover the facts for themselves. Now, I teach English in Colombia, sadly which is about 180° from J.K.'s approach with their centralized standardized grammatical approach producing very few speakers of English, but instead students who feel frustrated and believe learning is difficult. How to implement J.K.'s style of intrinsically-motivated students where this is not the norm is a good question.

Rather lovely and a real fragrance of what Krishnaji constantly set down in respect of education. Also a sense of true friendship and awareness which so often is subjected to ridicule or dogma simply because it seeks no reward or status.

Great video! The goal of education should be the holistic development of a child. When that happens, the child can naturally find his/her true calling.

After getting educated at some of the "good" schools and universities, I don't think I had ever inquired into myself so deeply and had the freedom to approach learning in this way. Living without "fear" of failing or falling short is the greatest realization for a man as regardless of how rich or poor you are, you are totally fine with it. You see what it means to live with "what is". This is so beautiful, and I'm truly grateful to know that such schools exist!

Wow! Amazing. The perfect definition of "alternate education". I vouch the statement made by @v n, "your school is producing HUMAN BEINGS and not machines!!!". It does fit in here perfectly. We pray May God shower His wisdom on the management and staff involved, and all the work of their hands be a blessing to many. Many blessings guys. Love loads from Sri Lanka.

It would be interesting to see a follow-up documentary about the graduates of this school system. How many go on to universities and how successful are they? What kind of jobs do they have as adults? What do graduates think about the school after they have gone out into the world and found jobs as adults? Do the graduates end up bringing their own children to this school?

Mona Coelho - Thank you for telling us about your daughter. May I ask if your daughter is going to university in India and if she is doing internships in India? I’m just curious to know if graduates of this school have found success in Europe, Canada, or the United States. Best wishes to your daughter for success.

Conventional schooling and teaching hampers the natural intellect , it is a mechanical concept and not logical , after going through conventional education system for 17 years of my life , I am confirmed it should be changed without any delay and the system of learning as shown in this video is good even teachers are volunteers which means they are interested in helping and it's not just another job for them.

Sadguruji very well said about J. Krishnamurti that he was a true intellectual human being without involving any tools and method ... The same philosophy can be seen in the academic institute of J.Krishnamurti... Instead of studying the angry moment of a human being; it's better to study why this sense prevails for him in philosophy...

I am a student of Patha Bhavan( Kolkata) and studied in Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati, Sanitiniketan. At the beginning of this documentation, I felt an uncanny resemblance with the pedagogy of Krishnamurti school with Tagore's vision - as I reached the end of the video, I realized that they have taken queues from Tagore's way of learning and spirituality and fused with new methods! Remarkable! Elem notun deshe! Good to see these children! They will bloom for sure :)
