I had that pedal back in 86-88 and then it broke and i never found a distortion pedal that ever sounded as good as that one.

I love this pedal. If you put distortion at about 3 or 4 and then then your guitar down to 1 1 or 3 there is some really great pick response, sounds like a tube amp to me.

This was my first "outta pocket" pedal. The guy at the music store jacked it into an EQ pedal and it was night and day! Reckon to guess the EQ was my next purchase. I dont remember mine sounding like that tho...but I was smashing a Ceate 2x12 combo!

Ithink the problem here is that the FX56 was designed with 80s LA glam metal in mind and everyone is trying to demo it with numetal and doom and with 7 string guitars. That's not what it does. Play some Ratt, Poison, Motley Crue, etc and see what happens.

Exactly this. I had this pedal back in the mid-80's and whilst it could sound terrible with certain settings, it really shone with others. Kinda thinking of buying one as a 'Nostalgia Buy'. Pricey though. We'll see....

Never sounded like hair metal at all. It's a fuzz pedal. Better for Smashing Pumpkins or something like that. There are a ton of brown sound pedals that do hair metal better.

Ha same. I've tried to make this pedal not sound like crap through so many different amps and guitar combos. It was the first pedal I ever bought, $7 at a garage sale in 1995.

The pedal came out before grunge. I had one back in 1985. It's little more than an Overdrive pedal. Disappointed. I later bought an Arion Distortion. I still use them today. Much better distortion pedal.

So you realize that as you turned the gain back up again you also then turned up the presence control as well so you didn't demonstrate low presence setting with a high gain setting.

That’s how I used to try and get a decent sound out of my Intermusic Imp amp I had as a lad. It would really fatten it up. (It was probably the worst sounding amp in history)
