Got my first grunge around 94, and while everybody seemed to hate it I just fell in love with it. the consensus in those years was, "if it isn't a Boss it's shit".

Very true Frank, unfortunately the Bossites and Boss snobs still exist, don’t get me wrong Boss are an excellent pedal range but many should branch out and use other brands as there are so many other great ranges of pedals out there, the pedal world can be your oyster if you let others in.

Just the video i was after, MANY thanks for going to the very detailed lengths of comparing the pedals to clearly demonstrate the differences. I bought the FX69 in '96 when i was 15 and out of all of my vast collection of distortion/effects pedals it was hands down my fave for getting fat n chunky even metal riffs out...unfortunately i lost it over the years and they're somewhat hard to come by compared to the Digitech one, i'm thinking of grabbing another one for nostalgic fun. Cheers.

I consider the "Grunge" control more like being a compressor or sustainor: When you turn it up, you still get about the same amount of gain, but for a much longer time. Of course, also more noise is brought up, when the strings ring out.

With the original DOD Grunge FX69, what's the deal with the power? I mean, power cable, not the battery. I've got one of these coming my way and everything on my board is powered by a Voodoo Labs Mondo power supply. If i remember correctly, that power supply comes with a bunch of adaptors. I'd really rather NOT use a battery, or pair the FX69 with its own power supply. Does anyone happen to know the voltage and mah it requires?
@carternoble73253 жыл бұрын
Not sure of the current but it’s just regular 9v. The power plug is 1/8” so you’ll need an adapter, but a regular 9v supply will be fine

I bought this Grunge pedal brand new at a local music shop for like $175-$190 except mine was silver like the one you showed on the far right pic, only my knobs were silver like on the purple one in the far right. The pedal looks identical to the purple DOD on the left except the color. If I can get one cheap $25-$50 I wanna get the exact one I used. Anyone know what model it was?

These 3 are my "go to" pedals. Once you record them, and pan them (FX69/B), you can hear the difference pretty distinctly. They both have their own uniqueness; the FX69 is more raspy and punk, while the FX69 is "cleaner" sounding, with a huge bite. I feel like the Digitech version is a combo of the first two. And with the 2nd output, you can really do some sonic damage there.

Since you asked what I think I say you turned the gain up way to high. Every knob on a grunge pedal is powerful and I never go beyond 9 o clock on the gain or 10 o clock on the volume. You should use a good tube amp on clean and I play Gibson Les Paul. Then you must tweak the high between 11 and 1 o clock to hit the sweet spot. Bass or low about 2 o clock. I get 80s metal like Judas priest and the scorpions down so good it's scary.
@fruitiusmaximus9253 жыл бұрын
The original DOD Grunge is DEFINITELY a metal pedal, not a grunge pedal. That was my senior year of high school, and all us metal bands used that pedal, and the grunge bands would always get up on stage and complain about this "damn Pantera-sounding wasp pedal" that was tarnishing the grunge image by using the name. The grunge guys HATED being associated with the sound of that pedal.

I got an old one in excellent nic for $40.00 USD Just kill the bass and boost the lower mids. BINGO A very Fuzz like OD but great for a solo! Another good sound is to put the gain barely on and push up the level to compensate.
