Dodge has always been open about its admiration for the classic design of its muscle cars from the 1960s. The Challenger launched in 2008 and was a nod to its predecessors from that era, with an unmistakably retro feel. They even created the incredible looking Dodge Super Charger Concept with the Hellephant motor which you can't buy. However, a new modification from eXoMod Concepts promises to take this a step further by transforming the latest Challenger Hellcats into a carbon copy of the iconic 1968 Charger, all while maintaining the car's modern features and drivability.
eXoMod Concepts, a reputable aftermarket specialist, has developed a complete carbon-fiber widebody for the Challenger SRT Hellcat. The company took 1,500 hours to build an example of the vehicle, which boasted a carbon fiber exterior that made the modern muscle car look like its 1960s-era predecessor. The new body is four inches wider than the original Charger, while the carbon fiber construction reduces the overall weight of the vehicle, resulting in a 400 pound weight savings.
While eXoMod Concepts provides the vehicle with a custom engine compartment, the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 continues to deliver a whopping 807 horsepower, which pairs with Dodge's eight-speed TorqueFlite transmission.
The builder has also improved the brakes, fitting the car with six-piston Brembo brake calipers featuring 15.7-inch drilled rotors. The wheels have also been customized, with the vehicle sporting 20-inch Forgeline wheels that are 10 inches wide at the front and 12 inches at the back, wrapped in Nitto NT555 tires.
The Quicksilver is one of the company's original seven C68 Carbon series cars, and currently, there is only one carbon-fiber Challenger in this color. eXoMod Concepts plans to build a second series of 10 additional Carbon cars with improvements based on its original series that will make it look like the 1968 and 1969 Charger models, giving buyers "the best of both worlds," as described by company CEO Rick Katzeff.
However, this customization comes at a time when Dodge has announced that it will cease Challenger production in December. The model has had a remarkable production run since its launch in 2008, with several improvements over the years, culminating in the Demon 170 with 1,025 hp and 945 pound-feet of torque when running on E85 fuel.
The Dodge Super Charger Concept, an extraordinary creation that unfortunately is not commercially available, has captured our admiration. Meanwhile, the eXoMod cars, which seem to present a promising alternative to this masterpiece, have also drawn our attention.
