The cost of ownership has been lower than an import. And it cost 10 grand less than the competition. Dodge has been all about doing what no one else is doing. They didn’t realize how unique/special this car was. Had they marketed it better, they could have justified the R&D to update it.

2011 R/T AWD with all options except adaptive cruise control. Handles Colorado winters like a champ. I can take almost any car off the line or from a roll. Burn out are pretty impossible as you have to manually drop to first and get really aggressive with the car. Anyone with the 7th Gen body type that spins donuts in powder snow knows that the leading side turn into a giant snowplow with 0% visibility. Thankfully I have leather and a few good towels, so I just roll down my window and let the snow in. I know... sacrilege. - I managed to jump my wife’s Honda Pilot AWD upon hitting a patch of ice and going into a shoulder ditch. I feel that if I were in my Charger, I wouldn’t have had a problem with the ice. Again, in my wife’s car, this time a Honda Pilot AWD that was from the previous year to the one mentioned above, I hit a moose because the car wouldn’t respond to fast handling. The car was totaled. Hence the second Pilot. And again, I feel like the moose would still be alive and I would be considering it a close call if I were in my Charger. I also take a solo road trip from Denver to Las Vegas every non-COVID year. I can drop the back seats, flatten the front passenger and throw down an inflatable mattress and stay in the car overnight in different rest stops. Decent room for someone that weighs 280 & 5,8”. Big guy. Anyway, the car slips into Eco mode for of the drive and it handles mid-May Vegas traffic just fine. I’m going to stay in the 7th Gen as I like the meaty body and grill. No major problems, except for factory recalls. But they have taken less than a day to address. I did replace the breaks with Brembo (?sp). I get a nice aggressive stop. Well, that’s it. My Charger is 10 years old and still an impressive machine.

@@finneyz24 right, and the difference between 3.09 and 3.06 is tiny. If anything that tiny difference would be a good thing. LSDs are also rather pointless on these cars. The brake lock differential(BLD) does everything you'd want a LSD to do and more. It has a torque vectoring effect, an effect a LSD would get in the way of. You're also not going to drive with the BLD off because turning it off would also turn off the AWD. But you can turn off the AWD without turning off the BLD if you want to do that whole RWD burnout drift thing.

@snek93534 жыл бұрын
@@finneyz24 No worries, I went through the whole 'do I want a LSD' for my '14 Hemi AWD 300. I landed on no, A LSD just doesn't make any since in these cars. I too have a Tazer as well as other toys. I keep mine in force AWD most of the time though. When you have a safe opportunity throw your car into a tight corner with your foot on the throttle, the AWD on, and the ESC in partial off. Something like a left turn from a light works well. If you pay attention you'll notice a series of things happen. The first tire that'll want to spin will be the inside rear. The computer is very good at predicting this and will clamp down on the brakes on that wheel. Because the differential is open this transfers all the rear torque to the outside rear. This is a very good thing, not only does it have most of the weight on it, but it also needs to be turning faster than the inside wheel. This also applies more torque to the outside wheel providing that torque vectoring effect and helping to turn the car. A LSD would prevent this, with a LSD clamped down it'd prevent the outside wheel from turning faster than the inside wheel under power. If you've turned in hard enough and am still on the throttle that rear outside will then start to slip, with the ESC in partial off the car will let it. The ESC in this mode will let it step out about 15deg before doing anything with the front brakes to straighten the car out. But before that happens it engages the front drive, it'll clamp on the clutch in the transfer case applying power to the front. If you haven't spun it around this will hook hard and it'll shoot right out of the corner.

I just got a 2013 awd 300s with hemi for work, and it is amazing so far. I also have a 2018 durango rt for the family. I drive them both in pretty extreme cold (-40c) and snow (foot or so),... the performance is remarkably similar, with the durango feeling just slightly more confident. I bet if they do bring back some kind of awd performance charger or 300 it would be some kind of hybrid electric.

@CTHellcat4 жыл бұрын
Everything you point out makes sense from a business standpoint, but as a hellcat charger owner, whenever I spin the rear wheels with a slight touch of the pedal I wish I had an option to enable AWD. I don't even both racing people from a dead stop on the street - it's pretty much pointless in a hellcat with nothing to gain and everything to lose (i.e. the WRX owner saying he destroyed a hellcat off the line). I'm hoping they address this in the future with an in-axle electrification option to provide launch power to the front wheels rather than a full-fledged AWD system.

Great video. I think small families under 5 people that live in hillsides or snowy terrains would benefit from a charger or chrysler awd sedans. I like them but I live in a flat sea level valley where most of the year it's dry, so a awd sedan wouldn't benefit me much. And yes I have been wanting a suv more and more over the years. I had an 07 charger, v6 rwd. Drove better in the snow than a 2011 Ford fusion or 98 hyundai tiburon, both of which are fwd. Looking at an old cop car that's a 2014 v8 awd and thinking it would be great for winter driving here, which is when I am usually in a car and not on a motorcycle, even though I would honestly prefer rwd to have fun with it normally. But, price and opportunity for something that is objectively better for what I'm using it for is more important than what I want
@barco5814 жыл бұрын
Another possible reason is that studless snow tires these day are very good. Tires like the Bridgestone Blizzaks. So those who live in snow country can enjoy a V8 with rwd, very good traction and braking with snow tires for a few months in the winter, and then not have to live with the negatives and higher costs of awd all year. While awd with all seasons will have more traction and corner better, rwd with snow tires will brake better. Not like the old days with chains!

@snek93534 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I don't recall ever seeing a 5.7 AWD S trim, all C. You should email Chrysler and ask how many were made, they're really cool about that. I have a '14 300C 5.7 AWD John Varvatos Luxury Edition with every option. According to Chrysler only 163 5.7 AWD John Varvatos Luxury Editions were made. Of those only 31 were in my color, and of those only 2 were fully optioned.

@@EZeasyET Thanks, I don't like loud and flashy, but do like speed and having the best I can get my hands on, it's the perfect car for me. An S trim version though would make a fantastic sleeper. Lighter to begin with, easier to lighten, and few would expect much of it. That'd be a real blast.

@@snek9353 I'm an addicted modder. There isn't much on the car that hasn't been touched and I can't take it anywhere without multiple comments on it. They really are just sexy cars when done correctly . I would buy a new one in a heartbeat if they made it awd again with the hemi. But it only has 56k on it so its got a long ways to go 😉
@snek93534 жыл бұрын
@@EZeasyET Same, sort of. I used to build performance cars for a living. But I like a stock look and sound, all my mods are muted. The parts of that industry that were all about flash and sound really bored me to it. Even largely stock looking, people really dig the car. Most think it's much more expensive than it is, even more are blown away by how fast it is, and that it's AWD. I was pondering the other day if I'd buy a new one. Honestly while I think they should make it, I probably wouldn't. It wouldn't be worth it, a lot of money, I've already got a lot in this one, a new one would have locked computers and such. Even if they made an AWD 300 with a HC or 6.4 engine and all the bells and whistles they've already dropped I don't think I'd pay what they'd have to charge. For the money I'd rather build a custom engine and drop it in this one. They'd have to offer something I want but can't add myself. The one mod I really want but haven't been able to find a way to do is to add the adaptive dampening system used in the SRT models. Nobody makes an adaptive front shock that fits the AWD. I even told KW I'd pay extra for them to put some together for me, they refused.

I owned a new 2013 Charger R/T with AWD. After 20,000 miles it developed a rumble and vibration in the rear. After at least 6 trips to the dealer and much swapping out of various parts (differentials, exhaust system, etc), Dodge declared the rumble and vibration to be "normal." They refused to fix it. After many angry words, then threatening to go the "lemon" route, Dodge gave me a new 2015 AWD Chrysler 200C with no money involved. Dodge probably got the better of me, but I was so irritated that I settled for the 200C. (Which I have now had for 53,000 trouble-free miles; it's the best car I have ever had, and I've had at least 20 cars, everything from a Pinto wagon to a Mercedes S class.) Besides the rumble and vibration, the Charger's seat was very uncomfortable and the 5 speed auto made it very slow - in fact, my 200C with a 8 speed FEELS faster. I don't miss the Charger at all.
