One year later after I posted. I experienced this issue every week and turns out for me, I needed a new PCM. I ordered a new plug and play PCM from Flagship one. Today is my 12th day without a thunder bolt and check engine light after new install of new/refurbished/reprogrammed PCM. A new pcm was programmed with my vin. Keys still worked, mileage was not affected. Changing the subject, to perform a full system reset, disconnect negative and positive battery cables and jump together disconnected battery cables for 24 hours. Then reconnect and start car. Let it sit for about 10 minutes on idle and don’t shut off. Then take it for a drive by making sure you get on a nearby road that will allow you to raise the speed to 50 miles per hour and slowly come to a stop. Do this about three times and you should be good to go with a full system reset. If you do get a new pcm, step for replacing pcm is to disconnect negative battery for one hours, remove old and install new pcm, reconnect negative battery and start car. Let it sit on idle and then take it for a drive without driving rough. Easy on the car while taking it on the highway to get the car speed up to 59 miles and hour the. Gradually slowing down to a stop. This is the easier learning process of things like gas pedal, throttle body, crank position sensor…etc. 24 hours shutdown while battery disconnected and terminals jumped would be deeper reset.

This is my latest updated response. As far as resetting the throttle body, crankshaft position sensor and many other components on my Jeep Grand 2011, V6, 3.6L, what worked for me was to disconnect negative battery terminal, use a jumper cable to connect both the disconnected negative car terminal wire to the connected positive terminal without causing a fire of course. Let set for about 18 to 24 hours as stated above. This will be the best verse 30 minutes which is not as strong of a rest procedure. Please do the 18 to 24 hour reset. Now, as far as the thunder bolt that I had, i fixed the issue by finding the 70 pin connected that is associated/has the gas pedal. It has a bolt the holds the pins together. It was strained and loose. The connector is found by the passenger side foot well lower right side. Remove plastic cover and there will be one or two of the strand square 70 pin connectors. Disconnect and spray contact cleaner. One of the pins resistance was 35ohms and should have been around 0.5ohm. That means that the connector for that pin was not solid and somewhat loose. I have no more thunder bolt after finding loose contacts. I had a stubborn thunder bolt that came back every week after I reset the gas pedal and throttle.

I do not have a video but i do have a photo that i could email to you. You have to have a wiring diagram of your vehicle to determine which wire is not within resistance specs, or which wire is not within voltage specs. I found documentation online from online Mitchell’s car repair site and began trouble shooting. If you don’t have access then I would look for the 70 pin connector and remove the bolt that holds harness together and spray electrical connector contact cleaner several times….then dry using hair dryer for extra security. My problem was that the connector was under tension/strain. Somebody connected the wire under very tight tension. So naturally, the connector became lose. That could be your problem. I really believe that you need to read the check engine codes. You mentioned that your car won’t idle after the first start up. That to me points towards the fuel, air and combustion. I would look at the fuel injectors, ignition coils and spark plugs. If there are codes that point to specific spark plugs, ignition coils or fuel injectors then I would remove that one and swap with another on the vehicle. If the problem moves to another location then that is the problem.
