Wow, what a great video Chris! We appreciate you taking the time and emailing us that you made it. Thank you. We install a lot of these kits in the shop and the short-beds are definitely a tighter area to work in. It's amazing how much more room is in front of that tank on the long-beds. It's nice to see someone do it on the short-bed though to show guys it's very possible to have great protection even in the tighter space. I think we have a guy in the shop that has the record time of 24 minutes installing one, but again like you said the first one always takes longer being cautious. Thanks again for the video. It is awesome! We certainly appreciate your business.........

@@miguelramirez4606 Better protection of your fuel system (injectors) and these filters are far more cheaper then OEM Fuel and water separator or even Napa water separator filters. It looks like it will be easier to change them out as well.

Just finished doing this on my truck yesterday. The main reason I went with this kit is because replacing the stock fuel filter (which has a very poor level of filtration compared to the Cat filters which I have used for years on semi tractor engines) is such a total PITA. At first glance it looks like it should drop straight down off the filter head. Nope. To do it right you should remove the fender liner and maybe pull off the driver's side tire too. Thought about using a sawzall to make a window in the fender liner to facilitate changing the filter but decided that wasn't really a good idea. I'm going to really enjoy changing these spin on filters next time I do a service job. I have a short bed but the Mega Cab so there was no need to bend the hose into a U shape. Some of the directions are a bit unclear until you get under the truck and study things, then most of it becomes obvious. Helped watching this video. I don't know who has an open end torque wrench so just make sure the fittings are good and tight or you are going to have leaks. As an added precaution I added hose clamps to the rubber fuel line where it goes into the barbed fitting. Probably not necessary but I had them laying around so I used them. Only thing that concerns me is these filters being right out in the open during cold weather. Just have to make sure I have plenty of additive in the tank I suppose. I also left the stock filter in place for a couple reasons. One, I just didn't feel like messing around with it right now, Two in the very remote chance something got into the down stream fuel line after the install ( I pointed it down and let it drain for a bit after cutting and deburring the steel fuel line) the stock filter should catch it. One of these days I'm going to pull the filter cartridge out of the stock housing and leave just the canister with the water in fuel sensor in place. I ran this idea past the guys at Throttle Up Industries and they said it should be fine but to make sure nothing got into the canister when putting it back into place after removing the filter. Make sure you cut the steel fuel line in such a place to allow you to snap the lines back into the frame mounted holders designed for that purpose. Vibration is your enemy here. I got lucky and didn't think about that until I went to push them into the holders and found I had done it exactly right, by accident. Last thought is the guy making this video, You didn't have a Crescent wrench? Some guys might not have bigger open end wrenches but using a Channel Lock pliers to turn a fitting? Made me cringe and I could hear my deceased father yelling at me if I did that.

great video CJ, thanks. I'm like you -- measure 3x, think about it, recheck tools and clearances, measure 2x again..... when we're cutting into something like the fuel line and really don't want to screw up, it's good to be beyond extra careful lol lol

Update to my last comment: The more I thought about your use of loctite, I figured you might be thinking the same thing I was thinking; that being, that if the lock washer is on top of the flat washer, what's to keep it from spinning? Probably should use some loctite to be safe. Well, after further research, turns out a lock washer should not be used on top of a flat washer, just as I suspected. But if one of the filter bases mounts to oblong holes on the mounting plate, I would say use the loctite and only the flat washers on those, and on the round holes, use only the lock washers with out any flat washers or loctite. That way one of the filter bases will be easy to remove for access to the o-rings. If that makes any sense. Thanks for taking the time to make the video, by the way. I planning on putting something like this on my truck, & this is very informative.

Hey Chris. Most important thing with these trucks is that you have adequate fuel pressure to your CP3 from your lift pump. My CP3 just went because I had low lift pump pressure. I would suggest that you check your fuel pressure goin to your CP3. If below spec get an aftermarket lift pump and fuel pressure gauge. This problem just Cost me 4 grand!!!
@TheMCD19895 жыл бұрын
Are you sure you have a 3rd gen cp3 truck? Sounds more like a VP44 truck. These 3rd gen trucks run relatively low FP to the injector pump, plus a CP3 isn't timed like a VP44 and about half the price, I don't see how that was $4k unless you did all you injectors at the same time.

This is a nice looking kit. But before I would consider installing it I would have to communicate with FCA and receive verification in writing this will not void any warranty. I know some will say "... it can't void warranty because it is better filtration..." and that may be true but an analogy is the LF9028 extended service lube oil filter. This filter has not been listed by FCA as suitable for use on the Ram truck. The LF9028 is used on Kubota excavator application of the B engine.

OMG! 1) Should have used oil or Parker lube on the o-rings, never install dry as it can shred the o-ring and cause a leak later on; 2) Red Locktite is for rod and main bolts and such, this is a job for blue Locktite (I prefer the gel type, easier to work with); 3) Pleezzzzze use an adjustable wrench, Ford wrench, or the correct size open end, pliers score up the fittings; 4) Factory shop manual for my '03 says 30 lb/ft on the rear seat bolts.

It occurs to me that eventually the o-rings in the connections between the filter holders will need to be replaced, or possibly leak for whatever reason when first installed, and having the bolts installed w/loctite might become a pain in the neck. Thoughts?

I was wondering about that too. I had to replace my fuel pump a few months ago. Replaced it with another in tank pump since the truck is stock. I went with the Carter which has 15psi at the CP3 and never drops below 9psi at full throttle (according to my gauge). I will monitor fuel pressure at CP3 if I install this and see what it does. I was also going to try to do the volume test after install.
