I've been a Amsoil dealer and user since 1975 on everything I own needing lubrication. 2005 Ram 3500 5.9 377K, 475K on my 1995 GMC Suburban K2500 6.5, 227K on my 2013 MB Sprinter 3.0 L Never used the bypass although I should to save money but as a dealer I save $$ over retail and change my filters (2Um fuel too) every 10 to 15K. Excellent video.

Bad move to Teflon tape the AN fittings. the AN fitting dose not need the tape and can lead to leaks down the road.
@TD_YT066 Жыл бұрын
The tape was only on the NPT side from what I could see, not on the flare. Now since he is using AN fittings, I'd prefer using safety wired ones, but then you won't be using their fittings or hose. (at least on the pressure side)

I like your filter location choice but drilling into the frame puzzled me. Why not make a bracket utilizing the existing frame holes? I was always told drilling into the frame which is a tempered steel weakens that area around the drilled hole. What are your thoughts?
@brandonrasmussen66923 жыл бұрын
It won't hert it if it's in the front of the truck , dodge frames uses different steel from from to back middle being strongest , a lil bolt hole in the front won't hert

First off you must realize, this filtration system is not a specific system for the Cummins engine. It is a "universal" kit that can be used on any vehicle. The other thing that you should realize is the fact that the system has a restriction built into filter head that restricts the flow of oil thru the system to around 6 quarts/5 minutes. The return line from the by-pass filter element has no pressure, as the end of the line is completely open thereby no pressure on the that line, so the only line that really has oil pressure is the one that feeds the b-pass filter element. Having installed over 100 f these units on various vehicles including the Cummins application, I have never seen or heard of ANY failures.
@anythingadrenaline45156 жыл бұрын
wayne Owen so what EXACTLY does he this do? Is have a 2nd Gen 5.9 Cummins coming up on 150k miles. Would this kit be beneficial? Or waste?

@wayne Owen have you ever installed one on a 2018 Chevy Colorado 2.8l it has the cartridge style oil filter with plastic housing
@Builttobeat3 жыл бұрын
@@anythingadrenaline4515 it filters oil of any particulates less the 20 microns but larger then 2 microns, factory filters only clean down to about 20 microns which will still break the motor down overtime, essentially this system helps extend the motors lifespan
@scottdowney43185 жыл бұрын
its certainly a good idea. you can also run lf9028 or bd7317, both are dual flow bypass type designs in a single filter.

2 different situations. the camry would use amsoils dual by pass unit. this is a secondary

There seems to be 100's of these bypass installs on youtube. But very few results videos. The one or two results videos I've seen didn't seem to be very good. The oil stayed jet black. So until I see more positive results I'm voting no on this one.

Why not keep it simple and not introduce potential failure mechanisms by using a LF9028 from Cummins Filtration aka Fleetguard? Full flow and bypass in a single canister, no extra oil lines, and it is an OEM product. The only caveat: the LF9028 is not on *Dodge* approved filter list; if you are out of warranty then no worries.
@1gr8oil8 жыл бұрын
The AMSOIL by-pass elements are rated as 98.7% EFFICIENT @ 2 MICRON as per ISO 4548-12. I highly doubt the LF9028 could produce those kinds of filtration numbers, since it is both a by-pass and a "FULL-FLOW filter.
@walterk12218 жыл бұрын
Yes, the Amsoil element has impressive advertised specs. I don't dispute the advertisement. I advocate the retention of simplicity and reliability by not introduction of extraneous plumbing in a system as crucial as the lube oil system. Additionally, Cummins Filtration makes a convincing presentation showing the shortcomings of laboratory testing as opposed to real world testing. Nope, I will be using the LF9028 and advocating the avoidance of potentially degrading the integrity and reliability of the lube oil system. Owners are free to make their own decisions and to be made aware of more reliable installations.

Decent kit but poorly engineered. For $100+, I would expect I don't have to make any custom bracket(s) to install it onto my truck. Any good kit worth buying should be a direct fit, bolt-on install kit. Also, I really DIS-like the return into the filler cap. What a 1/2-assed way of running any return line into any system on any vehicle or any system anywhere! In this particular setup, it would have made a lot more sense to drill and tap a hole into the side or top of the valve cover. Also, you could potentially locate a better return spot for the oil, perhaps somewhere into the engine block. Lucky for me, in my truck, I run a good quality engine oil and change it on properly scheduled intervals. I run quality filters in the stock locations. Often times I use WIX, but sometimes Fleetguard, or whatever suits my fancy at any given time based on price and availability. My 2002 Cummins has over 317K on it, and counting, and has never missed a beat. It's a neat idea, but there's just no need for this by-pass filter kit. Just another Amsoil "snake oil" product.
@jonruger8 жыл бұрын
this is cheap kit 100 bucks is a deal every kit I find is 400+ and you still have to fab parts. it's because its a universal kit not vehicle specific so you have to build your own bracket or screw the filter head directly to your truck you don't need a bracket
@1gr8oil8 жыл бұрын
I had a 1994 Dodge/Cummins that I ran this by-pass oil system on for ten years and 155,000 miles, and only changed the filters 3 times over that time period. The oil was NOT CHANGED in that time frame, and I used "OIL ANALYSIS" to determine the condition of the oil, as well as what my engine was looking like internally. In that amount of time on the oil, there was literately NO WEAR!
@walterk12218 жыл бұрын

The beginning of the video is misleading. I only kept watching because I was hoping for an actual review of the product, not just an installation guide. If there’s any way to show what the truck does typically before installing this that is undesired, and then show the improvement that it actually makes, that would be a review. An install video is not a review.

He must have changed the title from when you saw it until when I watched it - good catch, as now is is called an install video.
